I enjoyed that, Lucy, looks like a great ride. I went to the Peaks with Adam G (MOCC) a year ago and rode a lot of the same trails. It's a gravel bike heaven! We were on MTBs which was great for the rougher sections. It was also very wet!

That was a nice adventure for me, laying here on the couch. It's raining outside. I feel the same way when on a tour; Lonely sometimes but when around people and people noise I can't wait to get away again on my own. This was fun. Thank you for sharing.

Another lovely video showing the joy of being out on a bike. Which bike? - doesn’t matter, you’re out enjoying the ride. Which type of fun? - doesn’t matter, you’ll enjoy there and then (type1) or you’ll enjoy it in retrospect later (type 2). What kit list? - always nice to pick up hints and tips seeing what other people take but ultimately, as for ‘which bike’ above, it doesn’t matter, kit develops and changes over time and rides. Thanks for keeping it real 👍

Can I suggest doing something small first then? Ride to your nearest youth hostel!
So food wise.. on longer trips I have a stove. As I was staying at youth hostels so I used the kitchen there. I cook simple meals, often pasta or rice!

@@Sturgecycling Also seem to have discovered the limits of the rear derailleur 🥺. Went on a nice canal ride the other day but it was tyre deep in clay and mud for the majority of it (about 12 km of it) Ended up throwing the chain and damaging the derailleur beyond repair. Just ordered another one and checking the limits of what everyone else seems to be using their gravel bikes on. Looks like muddy tracks are the recommended limit from utubers I’ve watched. Lesson learnt.

Apparently, modern gravel drivetrains are still heavily road oriented, and not much suited for very mixed terrain and off-road riding with a load.

highly recommend the Thermorest xtherm for winter - worth every penny, for the rest of the year their normal yellow one. Avoid the uberlight blue (they dont have the durability). Having had all different matts over the years, from exped, sea to summit, big agnes, alpkit, nothing comes close to the Thermorest esp their guarantees and customer service. Good vlog, safe travels.
Edit - this looks such a good bike friendly, minimal car's, route - never done any cycling down in the peak district so ignorant apologies! Any further guidance on the main part of the route as the link doesn't work for me. Looks a fun few days does that route and quiet too!

It's a mixed terrian so a gravel is more than suitable. Get real, you spend vast vast majority of time on boring climbs anyway, where a mountainbike is a hindrance.
