In todays video we take a look at Kane Pixels insane new horror series The Oldest View. In this series we follow a guy named Wyatt who comes across a mysterious tunnel while hiking. He decides to document it all and record his findings for social media. But what he finds at the end of the tunnel is nothing but nightmare fuel. Now he must find another way to escape or he may never see daylight again...

The accessibility of the exits in that safety document actually adds to the characters fear- Having every exit be accessible to wheelchairs, means accessible to the giant which is on wheels. Just means he can't safely exit and means the giant may be able to leave and enter the mall as it likes.
Except it didn't even need them. The giant could get off the wheelchair as it pleases. In fact, it's probably not even alive - the mall itself was just using it to mess with him.
That was my first thought as well. That safety document felt like it was really important to the story past just giving the other document numbers.

What terrifies me the most is that there are no rail guards inside of the tunnel. All it takes is a misstep and you’ll be rolling down for the rest of the way.

My personal theory is that the giant isn't a malevolent creature but rather trying to guide Wyatt to an exit. The first time the giant properly chases Wyatt it leads him upstairs, upstairs where the secondary exit is. And then when Wyatt doesn't go up there the giant tries to corral Wyatt back to it. Then the third time in the dilapidated mall it chases Wyatt it follows him up the stairs to make sure that he actually manages to leave. When Wyatt asks what the giant wants it points to him, but he's also standing by the exit so it could have a double meaning of it wants Wyatt to leave. Also notice once Wyatt is en route to the exit the giant backs off. Also the "dead" people and horse are actually just figures that were located in the mall in real life so its not necessarily something murderous.
Anyways that's my thoughts but I'm not sure on all other aspects of the series, but I love this series so much.

I think the giant knew what it was doing, and wanted to scare Wyatt into escaping, so he’d fall and die, sending him to the negative space area. it knows, and is actively trying to send him to the malls own hell.

Analog horror is rly some of the only things that actually makes me feel unsafe alone. I watched the mandela catalog at a friends house and had to walk home in the dark and i was having a full on panic attack by the time i got home. The camera perspective is so realistic. I generally thought he was walking through an abandoned place, this is incredible. The modeling is really well done, and the sounds are perfect. It kinda reminds me of serial experiments lain. There isnt much talking in serial experiments lain but instead sounds of things around them, chalk writing on the board, powerlines, breathing, computer booting up, footsteps, etc, but barely any talking. Thats what makes it so eerie too.

Holy fucking shit, this is my local mall. I remember going there and my first job was at a GameStop there back in 2007-2009. This is fucking wild because that rolling guy is LEGIT. It was a paper mache art piece created by some students. Before the closing of the mall, they turned a large portion of the upstairs into a bunch of different art galleries and this dood was always on display. This is fucking bonkers and I'm freaking out. However, now, the entire mall has been demolished for a rebuild and the entire area; sans the side of the neighborhood that has the Galleria Mall and the shops and luxury apartments near by.

Brother, if a hole in the ground leads into a well lit, maintained hallway you should RUN! Not because it might be some kind of supernatural boogeyman, but because it might be a HUMAN or multiple HUMANS who might not be happy with what you are seeing. Suffice to say, your chance of not being heard of ever again or at least getting taken to court is not small

I watched Wendigoon's reaction to this, and he pointed out that, as with a lot of horror, there's kind of a Tower of Babel theme where humanity's arrogance ends up hurting it in the long run. Wyatt's arrogance in thinking he could just keep going back to this incomprehensible horror over and over again without getting hurt is what ultimately ended up killing him.

I like how "The rolling giant" acts like a weeping angel as if mocking him at first but eventually gets tired of it and just chases him without stopping. Another thing, it was so fast when he looked away but when he started running it started moving at a jogging speed.

The giant was still toying with him giving chase but letting hime feel like he has a chance, the last bit of it climbing the escalator was the giant showing him there is no escape.

After wyatt said he wanted to leave the statue got mad and started chasing him
i think the giant isn't necessarily bad bc when he first chased him up those stairs (where the exit would be found) after he got up stairs it looks like the giant walked away. It only really got aggressive when the protag came back down and started exploring stuff (trying to find the exit) so maybe the giant thought he wasnt actually trying to leave and was actually up to no good?
The guy actually spoke to the giant telling him that he was trying to leave since he watched those backrooms videos so with the previous supernatural stuff happening like exits being collapsed,things being in the wrong places the giant seemingly being binded to only move when unobserved
The giant is highly intelligent tricking the guy constantly there’s a comment higher up that it’s possessed from the guy who loves plants that HE wants the camera guys body so when your trying to get a human body who has a way out what do you do when their faster wait till YOU KNOW that they don’t know where their going the plant enthusiast is HIGHLY intelligent so this is a piece of cake
Whit the new video "Life of a Giant" it basicaly explains that Giants motives was just to bring back the past. The time when he was happy: when all people were walking around the mall and just enjoying their moments whit him. The reason it was chasing Wyatt because it wanted him to stay here and relieve old memories or otherwise nostalgia. When he showed random corpses and then looked at the exit he basicaly said :"Either stay whit me and relieve our memories, or just go ahead to your useless exit".
what i don't understand is why kane has to torture us with the GOOFIEST looking monsters - having to tell my partner i'm now eternally terrified of a paper mache plants for hands puppet and a child's scribble monster is embarrassing /lh

Bro. . . You should look more into it and check out the comments on the actual video. This was modeled after a real mall, and the monster was a real prop that was in stasis in the same mall. I found it in a video uploaded 6 years ago. Absolutely insane.

The fact that it continuously tried tricking Wyatt showing it has some level of thinking is terrifying, first it tricked him into thinking it couldn’t move when he was looking at it, then it tricked him into thinking it couldn’t go up stairs
It actively lulls Wyatt into the idea that he can do something to stop it. And then actively crushes those ideas. Kane is truly the goat
The Rolling Giant is genuinely terrifying, more terrifying than Bacteria from Kane's Backrooms series. I can see why Kane got night terrors from it. I can barley LOOK at it because it's just so uncanny looking, this is my third rewatch and I still can't get over it. Not to mention the fact that it ROLLS. It it had legs and could walk, yeah that'd be creepy, but it Litterly rolls, horrifying.

It’s just that it’s rarer because that’s the age we r developing, we are beginning to understand certain stuff, and experience new stuff, before we reach into adulthood where we have experience thus can be more creative and more passionate
So knowing these, it is actually impressive
Fun fact, the Rolling Giant is a real art piece, it was in the Parade of Giants, representing Julian Reverchon, a botanist. Botany is all about plants, which is why the Giant's hands are plants. The Reverchon giant wants to see if Wyatt is a TRUE botanist, and that might be why there is alot of vegetation along the way.
Edit: The mall is also a real place that was demolished back then, and Kane, despite being just 18, remodeled the entire mall. Also, the reason for the thundering is probably because the demolition is happening as of Wyatt exploring the mall.

Personally, I think the giant was starting to get angry/sad without anybody coming ti the mall anymore due to being abandoned for a few years, so when Wyatt found his way in, he was only chasing him since he hasn't seen anybody in so long. And when Wyatt screamed “ I only want to get out “ idk if it was just me but the giant started going faster, as if he didn't want Wyatt to leave. And when Wyatt went to the exit, the giant tried to get him to stay one last time by showing him what would happen if he left.
That’s a very good/interesting theory

The Valley View mall took four years to demolish, due to developer setbacks. Which meant that for years, it was a creepy partially destroyed abandoned mall, which made it amazing for people looking for creepy setting
I actually entered when they had just started patially destroying the mall , while it was partially destroyed they let the AMC movie theatres keep on running for a short while for everyone to use before it was completely gone and I can say, it was very creepy seeing it so vacant but also so cool

@@aTricksterthis doesn't make sense. the mall was defunct for several years before they started demolishing. and why would they let people legally anywhere near a partially demolished building? that's just asking for a death and subsequent lawsuit. not to mention that I can't imagine AMC would permit that either, for the sake of their own liability

Kane has truly become a master of horror ! He perfectly understand the unsettling atmosphere of luminal spaces and is able to progressively build up the tension before the true menace becomes real and unstoppable, as it is but too late for our desperate protagonist who can no longer escape death.

I love how theres no rule to how to deal with the giant, everytime you think you find a weakness it immediatelly proves you wrong. Its like its playing with Wyatt the whole time. We dont even know if the giant had to be on wheels because right at the end he somehow dissapears from his wheeled platform.

Then again-almost every horror game or film could be solved if a drone is used instead of a person
Yeah or a robot, but that would be expensive in reality. Still, sending a robot or drone than yourself to an earth deep creepy tunnel is a better and safer option.

Just look at the stone patterns in the hallway. The exact same stone pattern shows up over and over, sometimes right across from one another.
The only thing that really gave it away was the stone walls at the exits and the way the camera moves
ITS A BLENDER ANIMATION??? THAT WASNT AN INSIDE JOKE??
Pretty sure it's being recorded in Unreal Engine, and it's either being shot in real-time with a VR headset (explaining the jump cuts, essentially he can only traverse so much space in a given take and then has to cut) or it's being rendered with some kind of motion tracked camera object acting as the simulated camera.
This is all rather trivial in Unreal 4.5 and Unreal 5 but not so much in blender.
There's also the fact that you find Quixel assets in use throughout his videos. Quixel is baked into Unreal Engine as the default asset library. Not to say you couldn't use Quixel in Blender, it's just not built into Blender.
Something to note, about the cut grass smell they mention repeatedly, that scent is actually a warning sign to other grass nearby that there is a predator nearby, just a little food for thought...

I like the idea that the Giant is telling Wyatt what to do. In the scene where the illusion of the horse and rider appear, the Giant is looking directly at the escalator. The illusions appeared very close but slightly away from the escalator, so is the giant telling him to go back down? Also, with the two panels that fell down, I think Wyatt should have explored in there a little bit. But I can also understand him wanting to GTFO as quickly as possible. The fall I think could have been avoided. If he had stood with his back to the wall and stepped over the concrete beam then he likely would have been fine. In fact we actually see him in this position just before he turns and uses the metal beam which fails. Anyway, none of this detracts from what is an AMAZING piece of work which I have watched many times now! :) Lastly, excellent reaction video. You didn't overplay it and your commentary and thoguhts are entirely sensible. Good job!
I have watch many of your videos in the last few weeks, this really seemed to get me. Idk what it was but the other ones I have been able to watch them just fine but I can’t get this one out of my head.(maybe because it’s a fear to be trapped with no escape) but your videos are always amazing, keep doing what you’re doing

Yeah, the Rolling Giant is not as fast the the Weeping Angels or SCP-173, but it's still creepy lol
Btw, it's not an analog horror but more of a modern found footage horror.
i also love how the giant is deceiving. it makes you think it stands still at first, just like normal, and then when it shows itself to move about, it makes you think it only moves when being looked at, just like the Weeping Angels. But then it just throws that out the window and starts chasing Wyatt even when its being watched. finally, it shows itself as being able to disconnect from its pedestal cart, altho we dont see that in full; we just see the cart by itself.

I think you may have been onto something about the statue possibility wanting to help Wyatt rather than harm him, as with it teleporting around and the speeds in which is can maneuver, when you mentioned that it may have been trying to help him escape, the wall collapsing and the fact that as Wyatt was close to the emergency exit, it started to leave rather than continue to watch him as it could have believed its job was done, not knowing that the structural integrity of where Wyatt fell from was unsafe due to years of neglect
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that the giant was trying to help Wyatt, rather than cause Wyatt any harm.

I think Kane made this series for a real reason, just to place the mall in remembrance. He wants us to admire how long the mall has been in life. Maybe Kane has been to this mall before.

Both Kane and Alex (Mandela C.) have started a “renaissance” of horror. One based on the primal urges and psychological feelings of the human mind. The scares don’t come from a slasher or a demonic possession, they come from the unknown depths of our imagination.
This is nothing new people have been doing this for a while now just under appreciated as it dosent appeal to the masses

That’s a stretch. Nothing really horrifying about this at all. How is an abandoned mall or a paper mache art project on wheels even scary? I really don’t get it. I watched all 40 minutes because I searched for the best horror of 2023 and was bored through out the entire thing and completely underwhelmed. I’m wondering if I missed something in the background or what. Maybe young people are just mystified because they never been inside an abandoned building.

I have a theory, poltergeist, it was probably a poltergeist toying with Wyatt, a poltergeist is a kind of ghost that likes teasing people like how the poltergeist moved the statue when he wasn’t looking the poltergeist was probably an impatient one which is why the giant starting rolling while he was watching it, another thing is the poltergeist turned on the lights and the poltergeist also let him have a sense of sort of comfort when he was on the beams for a little bit and the poltergeist wanted to have some fun so it broke the pillars holding up the beams Edit : Couldn’t Wyatt have picked up something long and wide and then knocked over the giant?

My best Theory rn is when it's greyed out characters, they have died in the mall, or were related to the mall. Julien is probably posessing the giant, and trying to kill people to posess their bodies and take over their lives. The plants are probably a big part, cause Julien had a lot of interests in plantlife, and loved reading books in the wilderness, like shown in the first video

the first thought i had at the end scene where you see his dead body outside is maybe that the whole thing was a hallucination, because how did he get back outside, but thats pretty far fetched lol. also a cool detail if you didnt notice is that at the VERY very end you can see wyatts eye grow darker as he goes into the afterlife.
Well, it wasn’t a hallucination I don’t think, since it wouldn’t be very interesting if Kane chose that. The giant did SOMETHING to him, I don’t know what, since it also gets outside.

I don't think it's a hallucination because all of the stuff happened in the mall are recorded on his phone meaning someone might have found his phone and uploaded it to TH-cam.
I feel like the mall has completely deteriorated. Throughout the video, the mall continuously becomes reclaimed by nature, and this part of the video could be showing the final phase

@@psgamer-il2ptI think so too, like, at some points in the video it was able to move so fast in a matter of seconds before the chase started, it could also teleport (considering we see its ribbons when Wyatt was looking at the blueprints of the mall).
It also seems like it doesn't need the wheels at all, before Wyatt falls off to his 'death', we see the Giant is gone, except for its base/wheels.
That thing could've killed Wyatt at any second, it just gave him a false sense of hope

And a few seconds later julian is watching him from the woods. The black and white world is hell.

Sorry if marcus touch on this but i need to point it out before i forget at 57:07 right before the guy enter the overgrown mall the sign by the door reads "do you accept the impermanence". Which I think means that certain doors lead to either different times or realms within the mall its basically the mall asking Wyatt that question wich by going through the door he accepted which would explain the change from a prestine mall to one ravaged by time since impermanence is the basic idea of nothing lasts forever.

Okay, so in the beginning when the guy is building that "mask" its actually the giant being built. I also do agree with you about the Giant standing with other giants because there was an image I saw with the giant standing with other giants. I can also explain why there was so much nature and plants that appeared in the mall. Once the mall was demolished i THINK it was overgrown with plants and all that. Thats just what I figured out and thought of.
Also the parade of giants has multiple puppets so it’s make sense for their to be more giants

This was an interesting Watch, i'm from Germany and have seen Images of that Giant many Times on the Internet, it did give me an very uncomfortable feeling, as he just looks genuinely uncanny, actually a great Idea to base a Story on all of this!
what i think is also when he (wyatt) sees something, it either goes awry or shows up in the place, when he sees the puppet the light turn on/flicker/thunder rolls, something to do with storms/electricity, when he sees plans for trees, the trees appear and it seems nature is taking itself back, but that could be due to coming from another entrance, also the placement of the tree and hole reminds me of how people put plants in front of/on graves, the staircase almost giving it a tomb-like feeling, showing us directly that this is how he dies. The puppet doesnt seem entirely hostile but also not a protector, its almost mocking in a way, showing up to creep him out, rolling in front of him, destroying the way back from his demise. But its also something about the way the building crumbles around him, the pannels of the walls falling when he rolls forward, maybe the crack in the beams was made by him, giving wyatt an inkling of hope that he will escape before rolling under it, making it crash.
the person we see before in the first video might also be a spirit possessing the puppet, we see him in the beginning and end if this is true, the "book" he reads, might also be wyatts story in the mall, wyatt telling him how he died so he can pass on
but it might be completely wrong, maybe im looking into things too much lol, just like analyzing stories

What i think is the most terrifying is the scream at the end . And i think i know why it broke down because the rolling giant destoyed the pillars. Besides that it would be even more terrifying if the rollong giant was roling towards him in th end. And last but not least that guy beggining that we saw.
