Love that I see someone recognize them. My favorite band..ed king and Steve Gaines were the strat guys and Allen Collins had the Eric Clapton vibe and soulful Gary. Legendary triple guitar line up
Seen Allen play the lead lick for Free Bird when they played as the underdogs early 70's.nearly 45 minutes / hour ! Last song played during this show ... Awesome show
All good guitarist as is Gary Rossington. Ed king played the S.H.Alabama lead in a video of the band here on you tube. Fabulous. I believe it was titled Interview with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Worth watching.
Nice, relaxed, easy listening commentary and explanation. Extremely accessible and very very interesting. I'm coming from blues - suddenly I'm playing rock lead, totally different feel and phrasing, not at all what I'd been playing (half baked) to this old classic. I'm subscribed, thanks Mike for giving your time and benefit of hours of background stuff. And like the guy said, next time (if/when we start gigging again) they yell "Freebird" . . . !
I appreciate the Freebird lessons so many guitarists provide. One thing that bothers me is that for people trying to learn the lead note for note, why are so many riffs NOT played on the same strings/frets that Allen and Rickey actually play them? Thanks. And looking forward to more great tutorials!!
Thank you, man ! I work this licks every day and "11 kill em all licks." That's cool because I' m learning "jump in the fire". I just need to play and be patient.
Watched this and then found new LS band playing it and you are right, just a bunch of different licks stringed together! Good job demystifying it! Still I would give my left one to play it!!
That one unison bend lick at fret 22, is a good example of why I like having 22 frets instead of 21. Hard to get some of these up to speed! Fun song to freestyle jam to. Helps to use Skynyrd style licks however. The slide part is in std tuning and is not hard to play. Yell "Freebird" and I'll be more than happy to play it. lol
your lick with the 15-17-15-17 on the G,D,D,A string i have asked people over and over for yr's every body looks at me stone face like i ask somthing that dosent ex zest thank you thank you thank you
I need your help senpai. Everytime I bend the three thinnest strings I tangle my fingers under the next upper one making me fk up the bend and it's just terrible in general idk what to do anymore bends are killing me.. Is it cause I have pretty thin fingers or am I just bad
If your a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan or a if you have played the song Freebird you will really appreciate this. Just cut & paste this into TH-cam search........ENTIRE FREEBIRD SOLO PLAYED ON HARMONICA!!! (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
UmbraFractus Kirk has always extensively made unique use of pentatonic playing. He’s always gave it a very 80s shred flair though. Ride The Lightning through to And Justice while still have plenty of pentatonic leads, also branches out to more complex stuff.
Exactly. Not sure why that solo is so popular, it's extremely repetitive, not very original and literally the only thing it has going for it is its substantial length, which, given the repetitiveness, is not necessarily a good thing.
@DrPsychedelic Unoriginal comment trying to defend an unoriginal solo with the most repetitive and obnoxious licks ever recorded. Free bird sucks and the primary reason for that is that crap solo.
You have the best guitar lesson channel, hands down
Allen Collins (RIP) was highly underrated as a guitarist.

Good musician. Horrible father
Coming back to this six years later and it's still one of the best lessons.
Funny I'm doing the same now and just thought this is the only lesson I ever needed for repeating licks, dexterity, stamina ,this lesson is invaluable

This channel is perfect for my level of playing. Thanks again.

“Always has been”
This is one of my favorite channels

I never could quite figure out a couple of those licks and always wondered how they were played so, thank you very much.
HAHA next time someone yells "Freebird" at a gig, they're in for it now! Thanks man!!
I can't get enough of these videos dude, thank you so much for all you're doin
Thank you, man ! I work this licks every day and "11 kill em all licks." That's cool because I' m learning "jump in the fire". I just need to play and be patient.
Thanks for the insight into those licks! Good "tools" for any guitarists "toolbox."
I want to thank you for your videos they help me a lot. I take different techniques I like and combine them with my style of playing
You got me to pick up the guitar and give it a go! Thanks!
Thanks Art! Great video.
Using this lesson to figure out the outro licks to one big mob lol thxx 🖤
Watched this and then found new LS band playing it and you are right, just a bunch of different licks stringed together!
Good job demystifying it!
Still I would give my left one to play it!!
97yawnac its not to hard to learn.
I love your videos man ! Good stuff ! I'd love to see some more theory stuff if you'd do that! I'm trying to learn more about music theory

Your Channel is growing fast... Keep it up bro
Great vid great lesson of a great solo
your lick with the 15-17-15-17 on the G,D,D,A string i have asked people over and over for yr's every body looks at me stone face like i ask somthing that dosent ex zest thank you thank you thank you
Better have those fingers warmed up good before trying to jam along to FreeBird. That song will wear those fingers out. LOL
thxs for posting this..i think its gonna be a big help...
Bill Hicks killed me.
Cool I needed this vid thanks
You rock man!
BILL HICKS, YESSS
Rip Allen Collins free as a bird now
just when i thought my fingers were tough enough to play guitar
Thanks very much for this lesson. Any suggestions to get these licks up to speed other than just plugging away to a metronome?
I understand the saturation is to stay forever young but if you'll put it any higher I think my screen will explode.
I need your help senpai. Everytime I bend the three thinnest strings I tangle my fingers under the next upper one making me fk up the bend and it's just terrible in general idk what to do anymore bends are killing me..
Is it cause I have pretty thin fingers or am I just bad
Chaotic Neutral just arch your fingers more so that your nail is perpendicular to the string above it, instead of parallel.
❤
Grew up on Skynyrd. You should check out Tom Saguto right here on TH-cam. He goes into the depths of skynyrd almost 100%
Juan Garcia I back this comment up, definitely look up Tom saguto if you want to learn ANYTHING Skynyrd
😊Juan Garcia
Thanks
Awesome guy too. We got to meet him and his band when both our bands played the CCMF in myrtle beach.
Thank you. Will do
Hey great video man love it also FIRST!😂
Hey
"Who knew Metallica and Skynyrd had so much crossover?"
Anybody who actually listened to Load and Reload instead of turning their noses up.

Hey Mike, nice video! Just curious, do you have your trem locked out on your strat?
No I use the trem bar from time to time.
Bill Hicks is Alex Jones
Just learn one of the licks and play it over and over for four minutes and it'll sound just like Free Bird.
Exactly. Not sure why that solo is so popular, it's extremely repetitive, not very original and literally the only thing it has going for it is its substantial length, which, given the repetitiveness, is not necessarily a good thing.
Ctrl-Alt-Del-U Its not that repetitive.
@@Butts666 Its highly repetitive, not original and absolutely brilliant.
@DrPsychedelic Unoriginal comment trying to defend an unoriginal solo with the most repetitive and obnoxious licks ever recorded. Free bird sucks and the primary reason for that is that crap solo.
Trent F which learning disability do you have?
If you were any more bad ass it just would not be fair!
7th
My fingers just won't wove that fast.
Matt Gilbert same here for a long time but practice is the key!
That first lick is supposed to sound like atrain whistle.
Gen Z probably killed Freebird meme
Scratch that they actually used that song for the washing machine
Dude either you know how to play it or not. Enough of the pano tonic BS !! That's not how you learn Free Bird😎
What do you mean Jay?
By so many things you mean a solo that reapers the same riffs over and over again. No. That solo is garbage.
