Thank you for describing how the grass is once grub damaged, I thought I had fungus, but I definitely have major grub damage, pulls up like hay with no roots
I’ve had a grub problem in my front yard for the past couple years. I’m in Michigan so maybe I’ll start the preventative a little earlier this year. Thanks for the great video’s. Keep them coming!
I hope that's true. I need help with my voles. I am sick of there tunnels and nests destroying my grass. I'm going to add more garter snakes regardless.
Tried out nitrolime to get rid of leatherjacket larvea, but should also work on grubs. Should give a good feed, lime, pre emergent herbicide control, grubcontrol, and it is dirt cheap. Never hear about nitrolime on the youtubes. Is it illegal in the US for use on residential laws?
A newly registered grub treatment in British Columbia at least is "Grubgone" it is Bacillus thuringiensis galleriae or btg. The information I read is that is good up to the third instar so larger grubs are controlled. Also the claim if Merit gives 100% this one will do 90%. It goes down as a powder, 2 pounds per thousand, a yearly maximum of 6. Watered in it stays in the grass crown and as soon as the grub eats it, it forms some sort of reaction in its gut, it stops feeding and dies. I hope this is helpful.
I just used a 2000 square foot tarp cover the lawn from 10pm to 8am in the last two weeks of June so grubs won’t lay eggs in my lawn. I did it for seven years and my lawn has no grub problems at all.
Great video! For nothern Indiana, what month/spring temp do you recommend applying grub-ex and what month/late spring or summer temp do you recommend applying merit?
@@ryanknorrlawncare I did Talstar Xtra in early april and then grub ex in early july. Sod webworms still have patched the daylight out of my side and back yard. So frustrating when i did a two-step application this year to try and beat them as they've been an annual nuisance; only to have it be the worst it's been in the past few years. I appreciate the feedback!
Another good one pal. I bought Jonathan Green’s grub control this year switching up the AI so the grubs don’t become resistant to the Scott’s that I always use. This JG product’s AI is imidacloprid. Any idea when that should be applied ie. soil temps to go by? The bag gives you a wide application timeframe. I’m up in Nj...
Hi bud saw your step by step video on over seeding. I am getting ready to do it on labor day weekend here in the PNW but before i do i might have grubs. Should i wait until spring to kill the grubs or am i safe to start over seeding and stick to the plan and then use grub ex in the spring as scott recommends? Thanks
I used that Grubex last year and had a big ugly white grub worm about one every 5 feet in the lawn after putting in trees and things around the house...this spring I still have them one about every 5 feet after doing more work putting in a fire pit out back and bushes in the front...I'm wondering if that bag would work better in a 5,000 sq foot yard going double strength? Let us know Ryan
Hello from Romania, Congratulations for your great youtube job....very useful.... Please advice: 1) with a hand seed spreader you should go in 2 directions when seeding a new lawn, or it's suficient in only one direction? 2) I have overseeded one week ago and the old grass has grown fast, but no signs of germination from the new seed....it's ok to mow right now or should I wait for the new grass to grow? Many thanks! Julian - Romania
I would try to go multiple directions for the best coverage....and it's best to not mow but if you absolutely have to and the other grass has not come up, then do it quick before it does
Craig M I hope so. My backyard had a lot last year. Thought it was lack of water even though I have irrigation. Then I over water and the damn nutsedge comes. So I eventually helped myself understand it’s the damn grubs. Lol
Hey, Ryan... one of my neighbors has insisted that Milky Spores is the way to get rid of grubs. Any thoughts on this? Thank you for all the great information you provide for our lawns.
Grubs equals voles. Voles suck. This is also a great autumn product. Also a great product because it is pest specific. Won’t harm pollinators or pets and kids. Save our pollinators. Pollination = food.
hi Ryan. I just applied grub ex on my lawn. 5/4/2021 and now it's a downpour of rain. is this ok or would I have to apply again and if so, When? and also they say grub ex can be applied 3 x a year, when can I do that. if I applied in May, next one July and 3rd in oct. or how does that work? oh and I'm in Eastern part of Ohio about 4 hrs from Indy and 3 hrs from WV
There's a chance it may have been washed away instead being watered in the lawn depending on the storm. Also, grub ex is good for 4 months and mentions on the bag 1 application per year. If you time it right before the grubs hatch, that's all you should need.
Just laid down pre emergent. Had a grub problem last year and used grub ex in the fall. Would you recommend laying this down ASAP or wait? Thanks and happy Easter.
Well, I fell victim to my own hubris. I _know_ that if I start seeing lawn damage that I should go through all the steps to properly identify the problem. Did I do that? Of course not. I just assumed that since my brown spot was in a place on the lawn that gets absolutely ravaged by the sun, that the culprit must be heat/drought stress, so I just kept watering it. While talking about the ever-growing patch with my sister she said "Have you checked for grubs?" Hmmm.... So I checked for grubs. Pulled up a great big ol' piece of turf and sure enough... grubs. I could have stopped it when I first noticed the 18" patch, but now I have a 12' oval in my yard that I'm probably going to have to reseed. Moral of the story: Don't assume you know what the problem is. Do your due diligence.
You guys in America should count your blessings, every insecticide available for chafer grubs and leather jackets is now illegal in Europe, we have nothing at all to combat them. Lucky guys!
I was thinking the same but I'm hoping Ryan can clarify why he is putting it down so soon and if he will also be doing an application later in the summer.
I talked about it in the video...this specific chemical has some studies showing it can be applied earlier as it takes more time to get worked into the soil.
Last two years in a row I tried a different product and had poor results. Dreadfully poor. Going back to good ole grubex this year. Man they really got me last year. Then the bastards grew into beetles and ate my roses.
Thank you for describing how the grass is once grub damaged, I thought I had fungus, but I definitely have major grub damage, pulls up like hay with no roots
I always appreciate how thorough you are with your content. Great content. Great channel. Awesome t-shirt in this video!

Best Insecticide in my opinion! Over here we only have one product with this active and it's way overpriced. Safe for the bees as well!
$45 for a bag here or pretty close to it
Need to put this down asap. Skunk is tearing up my lawn and I’m sure it’s because of grubs. Thanks Ryan!!
Ah ha! So that's what the skunk is eating in my yard! Thanks.
I've had good success w/ Grub-Ex. My opinion is that it also helps to keep the voles away.
I hope that's true. I need help with my voles. I am sick of there tunnels and nests destroying my grass. I'm going to add more garter snakes regardless.
Good stuff Ryan. I use the same product once a year and have had great luck with it with no grub issues.
This is awesome! My neighbors have bee's and I have grub's, this product is for me! Thanks!
I watched an LCN video awhile back where he said to apply early July l feel can't wait that long so I put mine down mid June and use a drop spreader
The most damaging round of grubs is late July early august.

I accidentally put down too much Sevin, like 4 pounds over 100- sq feet. How badly will that effect my grass?
Ryan, what time separation is needed between treating grubs and firtilizing ? .
Before or after firtilizing? Thanks
I have a lesco spreader can you tell me what setting to be on thanks Ryan
Any chance you can do a special Canadian edition? Most of these products aren't allowed up here :(

One every 5 feet is not bad so there shouldn't be a problem with that
What would you recommend for grubs now? I live in Wi.
Chlorantraniliprole does work. Same ingredient as Acelepryn G Insecticide. Thanks for showing this Ryan.
I have had an issue with sod webworms the past years and I just applied this hoping this will solve it.

Need help with crabgrass. I put an application every year but keeps coming back.
Can GrubEx be applied after an application of pre-emergent for grabgrass? Or should you wait a bit
Will this help with ants i found on my lawn? Lawn is couch in Australia and I have ant holes all over it
Seems like a great product. Very well done, Ryan.
Have you ever tried Milky Spore for grubs?
Craig M I have that now! First year. Says use 3x this year and 3x next year and I’m good for like 12 years! Lol. Let’s hope so
Eric Benigno Don’t count on it eliminating them all together but it reduced them quite a bit.
Craig M I hope so. My backyard had a lot last year. Thought it was lack of water even though I have irrigation. Then I over water and the damn nutsedge comes. So I eventually helped myself understand it’s the damn grubs. Lol
whats with the old truck in the neighbors yard!! kind of an eye soar isn't it? any mole issues?
Hey, Ryan... one of my neighbors has insisted that Milky Spores is the way to get rid of grubs. Any thoughts on this? Thank you for all the great information you provide for our lawns.
I don't have much experience with it so can't say for sure on that
Great video! How should this be handle with pets; dogs and etc? Also can these be mixes with grass seed, or milorganite?
It's best to apply all that separately
Aired Apr 21, 2019. Thank you for sharing.

Ryan I’m in Massachusetts and had grub problem last year. What do you think about applying grub ex middle of April and then merit end of June?
I don't think you should need both but up to you. The grub ex seemed to work well for me on its own
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care great thank you! Keep up the awesome videos!

Read the instructions. There might be a clause about temperature
You can apply now to prevent grubs in the summer time this year
Nice video Ryan!
how often does this need to be applied.
Annually, drop in mid May in the Midwest each year.

Great video
How about nematodes?
wowza

Nope it is a replacement
