It would then be: “Finding the point on a plane that is closest to another point on the plane”. Imagine you’re on the xy-plane, and you have a point. You wouldn’t ask “what point is closest to that point?” A good twist on that would be “Find a point on a plane closest to a curve on the plane.” That becomes an optimization problem. I hope this helps.
I apologize, this is one of my earlier videos done on an early generation iPad with a rubber tip stylus. If you'd like, I can send you a pdf of a typed up version of this problem.
Thanks for making this problem easier. To any future viewers, play this video on 1.5x speed, you're welcome in advance.
Best explanation I’ve found so far! Thank you
thanks a lot for this video. Just found a new way of doing it thanks to you
If the origin is a point (0,0,0), then does this method work with finding a point on a plane that's closest to the origin?
Wadud Khan Yes, everything works the same 1drv.ms/u/s!AnHqa2NPtzRcgs9qsm2Am2pvvUb-jQ

THANKS FOR SAVING MY LIFE!!!!!!
How can you say that it is the closest? It may be any line containing both points.
Through two points, there is only one line.
I cant thank you enough!!! Thank you!!
Is there a way to verify/check this graphically and/or mathematically? Thanks btw, very helpful nonetheless!
omg this made this problem sooooooo easy thank you soooo mcuh.
