    Funny story, this video was meant to go out on Monday, but I selected the wrong date. Woops. Anyway, if you enjoyed learning about Iran, you'll want to know what doomed their ex-neighbour, the Ottomans. Check out a video on their fall, here: th-cam.com/video/IWkBrsQw8ws/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for the video. I'd like to correct a mistake, the Americans were on the Shah's side until Carter. Carter clearly supported Khomeini, and there are documents of their connection and communications. You can look them up, there is even a Wikipedia page about it. Khomeini assured him that he would not oppose the U.S, and went back on his word after he came to power. He told the Iranians that he would establish a free, democratic government, which he also lied about. He was like our Lenin, pretty much lied about everything to come to power. He is now hated by about 80% of the population.

      The greatest joy is hearing about the common people's opinions on the dumb shia belief system. One day a taxi driver was talking about how vain and grandiose Khomeini's tomb is, and it suddenly hit him; what if Khomeini is the norm? "What if Imam Reza, whose tomb is also grandiose like Khomeini's, was also an evil fraud like him?" Those utterings will stay with me for life. The very foundation of their propaganda system is crumbling, and it's glorious.

      @@erichayes8445 Most of the torture done by the SAVAK was greatly exaggerated to demonize the Shah. The Rat Torture or Rape were lies by his opponent to get the Iranian people to ignore all his accomplishments (like his modernization of the country). The SAVAK’s interrogation methods were in line with other intelligence agencies, like the CIA MI6, MOSSAD etc. The problem with the democracy movement was that Iran wasn’t ready for democracy yet. We had a Democracy Movement in 1906, called the Persian Constitutional Revolution. That was a failure, as it just ended up giving the Clergy more power. You needed an authoritarian like Reza Shah Pahlavi and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, to break the power of the Clergy. Had the Shah not been overthrown, Iran would have been a Developed and Democratic Country, with a Constitutional Monarchy.

Sure, you can critique his rule, but you can’t deny the positive impact the Pahlavi Dynasty had on Iran, or, compare the Pahlavi’s to the Mullahs. Not all dictatorships are equal.

    This video really missed the mark. It seems like the producer didn’t understand the real story of what was happening between the Shah of Iran and the West. The Shah, as the leader of OPEC, was making decisions that didn’t sit well with the U.S. and the West. The main issue was that he had stopped following the West’s direction and that’s why the U.S. decided he had to be replaced by Khomeini, The video would have been much better if it included these key facts and provided more context about the political and economic tensions of that time.

The differing beliefs between the sunnia and shia have led to many many wars, conflicts, and massacres over the centuries. How could you get this simple and well known fact so wrong?

  • @Hermesborugerdian
    @Hermesborugerdian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    Good job.
    There are some corrections I could make on this as an Iranian;
    1. Reza Shah I, was actually very open to the idea of republicanism. it was the clerics who stopped him from establishing a secular republic.
    2. It was actually The shah who coerced Mossadegh to nationalise the oil and that’s why his majesty picked him to create a government.
    3. The problem emerged when Mossadegh and his communist supporters who had infiltrated all casts of the society including the Iranian imperial military Close down the Majis and wanted to arrest the shah and turn Iran to an eastern blockade nation through a leftist takeover at the peak of the Cold War.
    4 The Shah’s more authoritative approach including the creation of Savak all came after Mossadegh’s attempt at having a pro Soviet coup
    5. Because of this liberal narrative that portrays the coup events in that light, Carter administration actually ended up supporting the revolutionaries and was one of the main reasons why 2000 years of Persian monarchy fell.

      people dying is always tragic when those people are innocent. but invading another country and forcing millions from their homes is very different from fighting separatists in your country and some of those caught in the crossfire dying.

      No civilians should be targeted but Russia invaded causing the deaths of over 60,000 of their own men only to get smacked recently, if they actually did care they wouldn’t have thrown the separatists to preserve their own men (hence why we don’t see many trained DPR/LPR) but your comparing millions being displaced, massacres being preputed by one side, the Russian side. Yes it sucks Kyiv was bombing enemy lands with civilians and I don’t like it, but you can’t play the victim card if you start a war of aggression cause then no will care about your whataboutism because your already seen as the bad guy and rightfully so.

      Iran was a shame before 79 for some and a step forward, the regime was a copycat of Saudi Arabia in terms of dependence to western countries, a lot of Iranians had enough, corruption, terrible management of ressources and manpower and zero exploiting of it for the national interests beside making huge discounts and selling lands to foreign powers, letting them privatize everything and nearly forced westernization of the country.
      A lot of Iranian actually believing everything under Pahlavis was better like a paradise, are mostly from the diaspora and brainwashed from father to son, the propaganda of Reza Pahlavi in particular, he was teaching the history of Iran completely omitting a lot of things and deforming history for its interests of westernizing Iran, he was doing it like Iran went from Kourosh the Great directly to the Pahlavis and that nothing happened meanwhile, making that sentiment that Iran never had Islam religion, was always in ancient traditions when it was false, the actual images we show that is meant to depict life before the revolution, the women in miniskirts (which were not even Iranians for a lot of photos, they were children of foreign diplomats with private property and beach given by the government) are the pure definition of propaganda to overthrow a government.
      when people left the country with the revolution, they still got that idea, add to that the fact of living in a foreign (mostly)west country, with the massive psychological propaganda we suffer from since 40 years, rewriting history of Iran by some propaganda outlets and corrupted pseudo-historians (the "Arabian Gulf" thing is an example along with hundreds), making us pass for people beheading every jews, christians and are antisemetic and extremists islamists comparable to ISIS or Al-Qaeda, all that mixed, make a lot of diaspora Iranian fall into this trap, denying their identity, to the point of fearing or deliberately calling themselves "Persians" fearing that people will see them badly when most do not care at all or are just idiots.
      Pahlavis never used the manpower and knowledge of Iranians, not even trying to exploit it by building schools and universities, instead, building French and English schools to attract west people and westernize more Iran, calling foreign engineers, advisors for "modernizing" the country, the military for example was terrible at the time, the Iranian involvement in the Omani Civil War is a great example, the commanders were following British advisors which made a catastrophic outcome in terms of human losses, Iran was self-sufficient in zero sectors.
      The monarchy was very sensible at that point, and was at a critical point of collapsing, easy tools of propaganda, everything was there to overthrow it and rally people, and it succeeded.
