The first time I extracted the package I put everything in a folder in C:/Program Files/Moodle, and got errors telling me that the installer cannot find paths for php and database. I decided to move my Moodle folder out as a standalone folder in the C drive instead of the Program Files folder like in the video, and everything went smoothly. This tutorial is accurate, it's just that I think you are least likely to get errors if your Moodle folder is placed directly in your drive (C:/ or D:/ or your drive of choice I mean). Thanks for the tutorial btw, very simple and straight forward.
It's difficult to save without knowing the environment. My recommendation is to follow the video tutorial step by step. If it worked for me, it should work for you. Good luck!
@@reinettelouw844 I am having the same problem. No matter where I put the Moodle folder, I can't get the installation to start. I am using v. 3.11. The documentation isn't any help with this. I also experienced problems with the ports and had to change the ports for Apache & MySQL. I installed XAMPP and was able to change the ports easily on their console. I'm still having problems with the Localhost PHP. I really like the fact that you speak on the video and walk us through most of the problems.

You cannot connect your local Moodle to a Moodle site online. What you can do is create courses in your local site and then backup then and restore them in the preexisting site.

I also wanted to add that you never should use IE for installation - it's impossible to enter password in IE and once you get to user settings you can't use Chrome or Firefox since installation need to be finished from the same IP. As workaround you can switch to MS Edge. But I spent two hours to find this workaround.

I tried to allow writing by changing the permissions (they were changed back), adding the user "Everyone" (no difference) and changing a setting in security, ransomeware / folder protection but with no luck. I end up using an old XP computer that I have to update my ancient course backup files to 1.9 so I can load them to 2.x to load to the 3.x and that worked.

You can have as many different local installations of Moodle as you like and then make a backup copy of your course, download it and restore it in another local platform.
The best idea is to install a brand new platform on the web server and then upload the backup copies of the courses you have in your local installation and then restore them

Yes, like we say from 5:40, you must provide a password for the database user. If you want/need to access the BD later, you'll need to remember this password. Otherwise, it's not relevant, since it's not required to enter the Moodle site itself.

The video is about installing Moodle on your computer for experimental purposes. That is free, but you can't use that installation with your students. For that you'll need to pay for a hosting provider.
The MySQL server, which is the database program in the installation, can be started by double-clicking (executing) mysql_start.bat. This file can be found in the same folder you installed xampp in, most likely this will be C:\xampplite\. The exact path to this file is X:\xampplite\mysql_start.bat. Use the username and password you created in the process of installation to enter the database.

For some reason, the DB is not found. If MySQL failed to open, maybe just stopping and then restarting Moodle again will solve the problem. If it still fails to connect to the DB, then the best option is to repeat the installation process from the beginning. Also make sure that the firewall or antivirus is not stopping the DB. Good luck!
A pop up window should inform you, like you see in the video. Make sure that you allow the necessary permissions for the Apache server and the DB to work.
Moodle only requires one password to access the site. The other password is for the database user, in case you want/need to manipulate the database, but it's not needed to log on the Moodle site

I've never had that issue. Have you tried completing the installation with a different browser?
@@EdtechFans chrome is the only browser that let me do this with problems compared to opera and firefox...looks like I'll have to reinstall everything
