Man, I discovered WHFS back in 83 or 84. At the time they had a very low-power transmitter, so down in Alexandria (about 50 miles away) you could only pick up a very faint signal…usually on Sunday nights around midnight. In those days (just like today), you had two choices: pop radio shit and country. WHFS opened a whole new world to me. And it was like they were playing for me and me alone. When I went to parties, if someone mentioned HFS, it was as though a secret handshake or signal had been given and you KNEW the other person was cool. Lou Reed, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Verve, Siouxshie & The Banshees, REM and U2 (before they sold out and went main-stream)…such great songs, such great emotions. The HFS experience summed up my 20s: young, idealistic, knowing fate and the tides had something special in store for me. It really was a great time to be alive.
Stationed in MD in '93. I listened to WHFS all the time.

HFS was so cool
Play this in your car and go for a loooong drive. You'll feel like you're in your 20s again!!
Matthew Sweet, a guy who went from 150 to 250 lbs. in a year.
He's bigger than that now.
This was post-Jake WHFS; a shadow of its former self. Not much to it.
