I respectfully suggest you need to rethink "Real World Sled of the Year" as your catch phrase. Real world is no longer applicable. You are now fixated on highest tech, highest HP, highest performance /speed, highest everything. Whatever happened to all the other "Real World" ratings? Price, performance overall, tried and true reliability, quality of fit and finish, best resale value, etc. Not all of us (actually few of us) buy sno-checks every year. Sled of the year should be best investment for long term performance & operation, reliability and resale value. You know, "Real World".

I'm a Polaris guy but I have to say, Ski-Doo is making it harder and harder for me not to change brands. They continually impress me with their sleds and they are the number #1 sled manufacturer in the world for a reason. Congrats to them, they deserve it.

Ford has more market share then McLaren and Bugatti, but it's not an indication that they sell the best product. Doo's have alot of issues and the engines are average for reliabilty. Both the Polaris and Ski-Doo are using a very old chassis, the Polaris is 8 years old now, and the Doo is 6 going on 7. They are both showing thier age and it will be hard for them to beat out the Catalyst 860 Turbo, unless Snowtrax cares more about a $65 GPS gauge then they do actual riding.

@@burnzillablue the car analogy is dead on accurate. However, I can assure you by the time Cat has a 860 Turbo the Catalyst chassis will also be on its 7th or 8th year. Lol

So have a 23 Doo renegade xrs competition 600r and a lynx rave. I've ridden the new matryx and I just don't feel comfortable on them. With that said the performance of both the 650 and 850 is excellent, I agree with basically everything the Lester's said about all 3 sleds. The biggest difference is how a Doo feels so refined and the quality is still just a half step above Polaris.

It seems to get better every time I ride !! This year , I ordered a 2024 Lynx Rave RE with the 850 , can't wait for next winter !!! I think a Yamaha Sidewinder LTX LE should have made the top 3 or 5 . I almost ordered one this spring , it is a great trail sled , not as capable as an XRS or a Lynx , but for bigger trails with less tight corners and more space to run at higher speeds all day , a four stroke turbo is an attractive option .

To say the Polaris turbo is an expensive option, How expensive is the smart shock option? Yes, the Ski Doo is refined, but if you don't feel comfortable with the front-end handling? What is the most important thing connecting your control and feel to the snow? The front end. They are all good sleds, but the cost is getting out of hand. Snowmobiling and trail systems were developed for a destination for people and families. Warm up shelters and social gatherings. Do the math for a family of four and your top picks? How much fun is left after the purchase of these sleds. And that's just the purchase of the sleds.

I really appreciate your coverage a lot on these sleds. Being a sledder for over 40+ years, I appreciate how technology has made the ride, the fit and finish and the longevity of the motors better and better over time. NOW... the downside, my income does not go up percentage wise like inflation and now I have been literally priced out of the market since COVID has damaged the economy in so many ways. And this runs across the board with all 8 riders in our riding group ranging from mid 40's to early 60's. These prices are not going to bring in more people to snowmobiling, but scare them away which has a trickle down effect on all the businesses that cater to sledders (Hotels, B&Bs, Restaurants, Dealers, etc.) whom are all going to lose money. Then we add in the wacky weather we have had on the Northeast side of the US where trails in New England really did not open till mid to late February. Would LOVE a new sled, but I think the way things are going, this will never happen for any of us moving forward.

In Canada they all MRSP for around or above $20,000 CAN. For a 600cc sled…. AC’s website states their all sold out! You can’t even order one anymore…. You would think people wouldn’t spend that kind of money on a 600cc trail sled but nope, they’re sold out! Doesn’t make sense to me. An SRX has went up $7,000 CAD in 3 model years and it’s the same exact sled for 2022, 2023 and 2024!!! Wild times we living in!

The two things I like about Skidoo is the 4 roller Clutch and the Direct Fuel injection. I have not ridden other brands of modern two strokes.. but still think the Skidoo can get significantly better mpg.
Also the 2014 Skidoos are a huge job to take the hoods off.
I also have a 2006 Yamaha Attack with 3,800 miles on it. I plan in keeping the Yamaha because they are so durable. Once I get the broken skid replaced with a Team Fast Diamond air anyway. If I wanted to be King of the Lake I could put a Turbo on it.
At age 62 no less I still want to race some Cross Country races.. thus I need a 600 cc sled. The Skidoo Model that is beefed up .
Face it Skidoos do tend bend a bit too easy with aggressive riding.

With Polaris you get options for panels, tunnel, and rails & ski loops. Having that option to choose your color really is a great option. With Skidoo they were always about yellow and I can't even buy an XRS in 2023 or 2024 in yellow. You get gray or black.

Great Review. I think the biggest question is why won't skidoo change their front end? The front end just plain does not work as well as Polaris. For some reason they like to have the A-Arms mounting points higher then Polaris, which is really hindering the handling of the machine and throws the balance off. I ordered a 2024 900R Renegade XRS and skidoo is said to be lowering the sled a bit for better handling, but shocks and springs is a bandaid to what really needs to be redesigned and I glad you guys called it out.

For the price of a new sled I'd rather spend the money on my 19's and take them to another level that a stock machine can't touch. Adding things like proper shock valving, brass bushings, aftermarket ski's , clutching etc. can make an older sled into a trail weapon. I find the stock sleds are made for the masses and not necessarily longevity. If your the kind of guy who isn't afraid to tinker and wants to ride the best , its hard to find on anything stock. Valving the shocks to your personnal riding style and weight will make a huge difference on any sled. Prices in Canada are out of control !!!!! keep what you have and make it better ! Close to thirty grand for a flagship sled after taxes is silly ! Love the reviews though guys and your my favourite winter show !

I think SnowTrax did a great job characterizing the situation. Both sleds are very expensive at the enthusiast end. The Doo is more refined, more reliable, and has better tech… but the Polaris is more fun. I went from an XRS to an XCR because I prioritized fun. Only criticism is we get more honesty at end of year than during the in season reviews. More candid, less marketing please.

    Why isn't in v-twin?
    Just my thoughts.

    • @duckdestroyer2412
      @duckdestroyer2412 ปีที่แล้ว

If you are referring to a two-stroke V-twin compared to a two-stroke inline twin. It is for several reasons. One is simplicity. Like one cylinder head, a single engine block design, etc. Two is balence, a 180-degree opposed inline twin has way better primary balence compared to a v-twin. Not to mention a significantly better firing order and lighter weight counter balences. It is like comparing an Inline 4 four stroke to a V4 four stroke. One is more common for a reason.
Four strokes however is a different story.
