really appreciate showing the wins AND the losses. never a fan of the cherry picked wins that showcase how great a deck is w/o showing it can falter or have weaknesses. great vid
Not sure which other content creators you watch but, pretty much all of them show both wins and losses. CGB, Sonio, Sloth, Powrdragn, MtgMalone… you name it.
@@AzazelReborn81CGB has admitted himself that he cuts a lot of losses out of the deck. I think you can see the pattern in his videos too. There is 1 loss about every 5 games.
I mean, fact of the matter is we don't know if LVD does the same thing, so it's silly to assume. His job is to make content. Cherry picking videos makes better content. He has plenty of videos that show 90% wins with some pretty janky decks. The video shows the deck with a 66% winrate. Good luck getting close to that if you were to build it. I love LVD and have been watching him for years, but acting like he doesn't also cherry pick videos is naive.
@joeggrant406 I don't think anyone is claiming there is no selection, just that losses are sometimes just as interesting as wins, in contrast to some who only ever show wins.
Personally, I like this Mono-Red build of the combo. It's always nice seeing Koth. And not just because it tickles the part of my brain that says "It lets you fetch lands in Red! It's _literally_ free real estate!". Koth just works well in the deck, for multiple reasons.
26:09 Hey that's me! Haha GGs, I think that may have been the only game I won against you. A lot of my other draws for other decks ended up being too slow. I love playing All Will Be One with Storm the Festival so I made a Naya version of the calendar combo, but I like the mono red Calendar deck! There something very nice about never having worry about your mana color when you are playing mono colored. Koth seems perfect for this too!

Yay more Legend! You’re my favorite content creator and I love to watch your stuff. I wish you did more historic brawl but I get why you don’t. Don’t worry I still watch 😂
Hope you're feeling better! Thanks for covering the new set and making some cool decks. Excited for the release next week to see what you come up with in standard!
I'm thinking some kind of Proliferate strategy, so ramp up the counters on the calender so the doubling goes faster. Although I imagine there's some optimal number of counters per turn, about which the number of doublings needed does not substantively change. People have probably already crunched the numbers on that by now.
Ha thanks! I know I seem like a lazy doofus for asking but last set I looked it up and Google said the wrong date. By the time I started drafting my opponents were already mindlessly following 17lands data 😢
i made this combo and set it off first test. i used red white though with lots of board wipes i like your draw engines to set up combo. when i thought of the combo i was looking at the calendar thinking how long it would take to pull it off and how annoying your deck would be if it was controll with calendar as the win condition. I was doing rough math to figure out how long it would take i was thinking then you put like 20 counters on it 🤔 all will be one .... holy #%@
There is an infinite untap combo with agatha's soul cauldron, couldn't you use that during your untap step to put 1,000 counters on the calender and win?
"No player receives priority during the untap step, so no spells can be cast or resolve and no abilities can be activated or resolve. Any ability that triggers during this step will be held until the next time a player would receive priority, which is usually during the upkeep step."
Looks fun, but a bit too slow imo. I wonder whether its possible to craft some deck where you can infinitely tap and untap a creature/artifact then OTK the op with 1000dmg? 🤔
This deck definitely feels like it's begging for another color, probably white or black. Mono red simply isn't a good control color, and several of the defeats seemed to basically boil down to "oh, they played a creature with more than 3 toughness? Guess I'll die."
This deck is one of the many ways to use [the millennium calendar] however this approach is not optimal, the worst case 8 turns and the best 5-6: [1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024]
Just have to appreciate the eloquence that this guy has while explaining the deck tech and laying out all the possibilities during game play
You have no idea how much this has helped me to improve as a Magic player.

Had that thought too. It also gives a match some tension.

Why doesn't he?
saw the fun teferi untap the clock combo which is pretty spicy as well
Dude you would be the one to figure out how to work Calendar in standard. That was rad
Now THIS is a burn deck!!! Lmao xD
Fantastic job per usual Luca! You really are the best, man!!
Those suggestions at the end are great! Looking forward to seeing some red white control standard decks being played on youtube!

That’s so clever! I never would have thought of this 😮
Love this deck, thanks for the content LVD😊
Great Content! Calendar goes well into my Boros AWBO deck 😉
1:03 "ahead of schedule" hehehe i see what you did there.
Love your channel! Just brewed a version with thermo alchemist/catapult and burn spells and maybe city on fire. Don’t have the unlocks yet lol
I built this deck like 2 hours ago, I'm having so much fun :D
Now you have to do a video actually trying to use the calendar ability to deal 1000 dmg

Untapping it with something like Teferi will likely yield faster wins if we're going for 1000 counters.
@@Bluecho4 You mean this?
Counters Doublings needed to reach at least 1000 time counters (assuming no counter manipulation like doubling season)

32 5

@@LegenVDYou could try it in explorer with manifold key and voltaic servant lol.
I'd like to see this again with RW version. Wandering emperor and maybe wedding announcement along with the 2 white cards you listed could be solid.
This guy counting to 1 provides a lot of value
3 mana 6/6...i can see many turn 2 or 3 surrender in the near future.
You just know this deck is going to be a banger when the first game is against double Swiftspear
It would be fun to go red/black and throw in the ob nixilis infinite combo.
Exactly for redundancy in case OP strips (stone brain) all the calendars from his deck.
Can always win with Carnosaur, Koth or All Will Be One without the combo.
Have yet to face a single Stone Brain in best of one Standard fwiw.
This is The End, my only friend The End....
Can’t wait to do this busted combo with paradox engine
Literally a Mayan doomsday calendar!
When does the set come out on Arena?
"The Lost Caverns of Ixalan arrives on MTG Arena starting November 14, 2023"

What about using mono green ramp with kiora behemoth beckoner to untap the calendar along with paradox engine
This is basically another way to go about doing what the Charbelcher deck does. Right?
Its hard to survive before combo works
Edit: I added 4x Candy Trail Scry helps with find combo cards, Gain life is nice, and extra draw
Delightful.
Can't wait to get stomped by this deck

Mono black magic's first card to do a paradox engine video :)
What about going Rakdos so you can include Ob as well?
Still need ways to enable that combo, so there's not as much overlap as one would think.
@@LegenVDYeah, I guess. The tutors could come in handy though.

It's not a good hand but I kinda wanna see what happens.
- me with with all my starting hands lol
Which sideboard is suitable for BO3?
i think red black would be better to get access to tutors that fetch the combo.
It's an option, although often the problem isn't finding the combo, but rather having enough interaction to survive until it goes off.
monstruous rage can be good with lattice (giving trample to the big raptor)
That's not really our primary gameplan, would be too narrow to include.
So who's gonna be the first one to lose the game with 999 counters
