  • Menstruation, lets talk about it. Period. Nadya explores woman's unaddressed needs of
    menstrual hygiene among poor and homeless women. She is a wonderful example advocating for natural needs and female empowerment.
    Nadya recently graduated from high school with honors from Catlin Gabel. She founded Camions of Care after her family experienced a degree of homelessness, during which she discovered the unaddressed need of
    menstrual hygiene among poor and homeless women. Her nonprofit is dedicated to helping women who can’t afford menstrual products so that they can achieve their full potential. She is also Youth Director of Social Venture Partners Youth, and serves on the Women’s Foundation of Oregon board. When she is not advocating
    for natural needs and women’s empowerment, she loves to snowboard and listen to Whitney Houston.
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    Period stigma is real and is needed to be talked about in our everyday society.

    Great topic and presentation! Along with period, I've never understood why breastfeeding is an uncomfortable topic in America. Every office that I've worked at, women speak awkwardly about breastfeeding / pumping. Uhh, it's nature and mothers should be praised for feeding their babies. I don't see anything awkward or weird about it.

      It is fine, provided you are discreet and use a feeding blanket.

    I'm in 6th grade and one of the boys in my class knows I have my period because one day at recess we were playing tag and me, my best friend, and this boy was hiding by the slides.....he told me that he didn't believe I was sick the day before (which I had missed due to cramps) and I said well you don't wanna know the real reason and he said "I do" and my best friend said "oh cause she got her period" and thankfully he just said "oh that sucks" and we went on with our day. I'm still her best friend even though she told a boy I got my period lol. Honestly, it was a weight off my shoulders.

    It is really important to talk about this topic. And let't raise awareness of the importance for women and girls to have a safe and healthy period. From accessing clean water supplies, to the cost and availability of products. Let't ditch pads or tampons and use CUPS. It more enviromentally friendly and it cost less.

    Periods are needed by men and women alike. Without periods, there would be no humans. So, to say it is a woman-specific need is misguiding. Quite frankly, the women cannot escape the blood, but women allow men to escape it by paying a pink tax to have tampons and period pads. I really don't see why women need to pay for men to be so comfortable and oblivious to the continuation of the human species.

    Just an FYI, this woman is a fraud, she's a serial abuse accuser (was never abused) and also claimed to have been homeless (was never homeless). She's also had other controversies related to her bad behavior.

    That’s all they talk to boys about is getting a deeper voice. Never mind constant awkward boners and raging hormones and having anxiety attacks that you’ll get called to the front of the class. Did they talk about that in your girls portion?

    • @annepadilla5945
      @annepadilla5945 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jonathan Martin Oh no, guys have to go through awkward boners, while girls have to go through periods. Man, guys have it so much worse. I'd take being embarrassed in front of class over having a period any day.

      Also, both boys and girls have "raging hormones" during puberty.

    There are more women going to college, and achieving higher degrees than men. They get preferences in hiring, shorter sentences for the same crimes, preferential treatment in the courts, etc. They are empowered.

    I can’t bear to watch this. Talking about this subject actually makes women be in a more oppressed situation than they already are because it separates them from men. Too many women talk about how horrible it is and it makes men pity them and further see them as weak and patronize them.

    • @monicaleyva7359
      @monicaleyva7359 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I guess you missed the part towards the end where she said men need to be supportive of the fact that women have to go through this.

      It is horrible. For some women period is really painful every month.

    • @ashsqx3246
      @ashsqx3246 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @PD So you're saying women should suffer in silence, in fear of being looked down for having crucual essential needs?? You're saying women must bear suffering in silence, because asking for basic rights will make women be seen as 'weak' if they speak up?? Your brand of feminism is simply a disguised tool of the patriarchy!
