  • Art21 proudly presents an artist segment, featuring Sarah Sze, from the "Balance" episode in Season 6 of the "Art in the Twenty-First Century" series.
"Balance" premiered in May 2012 on PBS.
Artist Sarah Sze builds her installations and intricate sculptures from the minutiae of everyday life, imbuing mundane materials, marks, and processes with surprising significance. In New York City’s High Line park, she strikes a balance between form and function as she creates a sculpture as post-modern bird habitat as well as a study of architectural perspective and space.

One of the most interesting and articulate artists out there. It's always fascinating to hear Sarah talk about her work and so it is particularly interesting here where she engages directly with some of the people who experience that work in situ. Great episode.

White woman, "What are we doing here!?" (As is she runs the place, kinda rude attitude).
French lady, "Are you the artist?" (Asks like a regular human being).
    Notice the difference?...

Eh, that's just a New Yorker way of asking the question. You shouldn't automatically infer an insult from how we talk.
