Before Kenny became a country SuperStar, he was the lead singer in a group called The First Edition. They had several hits worldwide, but were known mosty by his voice. Later they became Kenny Rogers and The First Edition. This was their biggest hit. Of course, after he split with them, he became one of the biggest country stars ever.

Super star doesn't begin to describe Kenny Rogers.
Other songs to check out would be
    Coward of the County
    Lady
    We've Got Tonight
    And many more.
Another artist although not Country to check out is John Mellencamp as BP2 said is one of the founders of Farm Aid.
His song Rain on the Scarecrow is an iconic song about the struggles of small family farms and he performs it every year.

Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Through the Years", "She Believes In Me", "You & I" (written by the Bee Gees) etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

"Islands in the Stream" was also written by the Bee Gees.

This is a great song, but a very sad song. He came back from the war paralyzed and dying soon but Ruby won’t even wait til he’s dead to go out sleeping around and he loves her and knows she’s young and needs what he can’t give her any more but he’s asking her to at least wait til he’s dead which won’t be long.

Do you think maybe BP1 would like Kenny Rogers singing "Coward of the County"?

@@BritPopsReact , I'm not really into country music. But I grew up listening to Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, etc... Plus, as a teen, it helped that they were also in movie shows. Coward of the County is similar to my dad's favorite weekly shows - Western!... Uhm... if you're not into western movies, maybe you might like Coward of the County? 🤠

kenny Rogers is a country music legend!! I grew up listening ton him and know every word to his songs. He was considered s sex symbol and the ladies loved to give/throw roses at his concerts. check out his live debut of Lady to understand why the ladies loved him so much. Check out the Gambler, Islands in the Stream, Coward of the County, Lucille, and many many more. this isn't his best performance.

Funny story, in the early 2000's I was at a motel in Kissimmee, Florida and my girl friend at the time was busy making friends down at the pool. I walked out on the balcony and the a woman from England was sitting with my friend, saw me and shouted hey there's Kenny Rogers. Sadly my girl friend had to inform the couple that it was just me. We ended up spending two weeks together with them. They were thrilled to get rides in the back of my 1976 Cadillac. Sadly I lost contact with my friends from England. Who knows, maybe they will see this.

Hi both, I like Kenny Rogers music, I know Ruby, it’s a great song, I prefer the recorded track, it’s a little bit slower I think. He was a great country singer who is surly missed. Loved this upload ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    "quite a nice song"
About a woman who leaves her crippled, dying, tortured vet husband to helplessly anguish at seeing her her getting dolled up every night to go satisfy her needs and urges with other men.
    Very nice, yes 😄

I actually still don’t think you have heard Kenny performer. I usually like your videos, but the song was secondary to the video. It was about who looked like who. You missed the lyrics. This is about a disabled vet who’s wife is stepping out. The lyrics specify that the man does not have long to live. The Vietnam War was still going strong when this was released. It is not suppose to be a fun song. If you want to do this song and Kenny justice, react to the version sung by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
I was disappointed in this one, guys.

Agree. I was at this Farm Aid event and Kenny’s performance here is so at odds with the songs lyrics. Perhaps if Kenny had approached it more solemnly the guys would have picked up on the meaning.

  • @thundernels

It seems like an unusual percentage of reactors who use this farm aid performance do not seem to key into the meaning of the song as opposed to the reactors who use the original recording. I’m not sure why.

*sigh* Another reaction where the reactors pay ZERO attention to the lyrics of what's actually a heartbreaking and rather dark song and just bounce around in their chairs and proceed to comment on EVERYTHING under the sun except for the damn song. So disappointed. 😞

This is NOT country, it's from Kenny's pre-country days. BTW, the song is NOT a cheery song. If you listen to the words it's about a veteran who was sent to war and came back paralyzed and, knowing he is shortly to die, is begging his wife not to go to town and screw around (Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town) while he's still alive as she has been doing almost nightly.

Nice little tune, the steel guitar gives it that traditional country feel, quite a few people there. Kenny lookalike perhaps a well fed Noel Edmunds, deal or no deal?

Kenny Rogers....... Good old tighty whitey Wonder Bread Kenny Rogers. He's all right I guess, a little too safe and pop-ish for my liking. BP1's Kurt Russell is the closer match to me. When you decide to get back to some REAL country music hit up on some Toby Keith "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" or Charlie Daniels "Long Haired Country Boy". YES!!!!! NEIL YOUNG! YES
