- A Conversation with Bootsy Collins on February 7, @ Berklee Performance Center with poet Thomas Sayers Ellis.
Bootsy tells how James Brown layed THE ONE on him in this short clip.
As we all know, Bootsy was THE BASS PLAYER for James Brown & Parliament-Funkadelic & Bootsy's Rubberband and is solid FUNK.
Video shot by Bill T Miller (BTM) with the built-in lo-fi avi movie feature on a snapshot camera.
Berklee crew did shoot hi-fi pro two camera footage of the complete "conversation" and hopefully someday they will release it all on TH-cam and DVD, but until then... here ya go.
Everybody say BOOTSY!
!
That sneeze was off the one
Basically, in theoretical terms, the "One" is the downbeat.
James said he found the one by accident in 1964. He found it while playing drums
Jame Brown is THE ONE... but of course THE ONE has existed since the begining of time.... i believe the BIG BANG start of THIS universe... is the origin of THE ONE in our reality.
Is undiscutible that NEW ORLEANS DRUMMERS (Earl Palmer, Charles Hungry Williams, Tenoo) INVENTED "THE FUNKY DRUMMING".
But JAMES BROWN ADD TO THESE.."THE ONE" on "Papa's Got a brand a new bag"..
then JAMES BROWN IS THE FOUNDATOR OF A FUNK like a New genere.
oh man i was there! i got to meet bootsy and shake his hand, i hope a little of the funk rub off on me.
Bootsy was Like zjames son. H was passing down a lesson that recreated funk as we know it. Real Talk.
And still he is the one who said "Don't tell me to be cool, cause I'm not!"
hit me with the one and then if you like hit me again!!!
i thought neo was the one? now i am confused.
James Brown and later BOOTSY were down on THE ONE... eons before NEO was dreamed into existence. hahaha.
I love that mo fo...funky ass dude! No doubt!!!
No, that's your man!!!!
Bootsy is the ONE wit da funk..on the one.
What a guy! Bam!
FUNK
FUNK 101.
:-D
Just too much funk. Bootsy is just ooozzzzing with funk!!!! He sounds better than most players even without his bass. His timing, feel, and rhythm are off the chart. Can you imagine what it would be like to have this much of all of the above?
music is all in him
Powerful history lesson from the groove professor
Mmm knowledge.
