    What I love about your video is that even when you make a mistake, you go back and detail us on what to do to avoid the mistake. One of the only videos I can find about water pump for Camry. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for the video. I was able to change out my Camry water pump and it wasn't nearly as difficult as it looked before I watched the video.

    Thank you, very clear and easy instructions. Straightforward. Two things I would have suggested. 1 ft lbs for tourqe for water pully bolts and nuts. Second is if there is a drying time for the black silicone to seal the pump.

    WARNING: Be VERY careful installing the Toyota bolts on the new water pump. They are cheap/weak material and can break VERY easily. I had two of them crack using a ratchet by hand using gentle force. One of the bolts broke off and I had to pull the new water pump off to unscrew the broken bolt, then had to completely clean off the new paper gasket and Permatex RTV silicone off both the engine and water pump, a HUGE pain. I HIGHLY suggest going to Lowe's and buying a 4-pack of "Hex Cap Screws, Size M6-1.00 x 20" bolts prior to starting your installation as a backup. Also, if you're using a torque wrench and it measures "ft / lb", set it to 6.6 ft / lb as 80 in / lb = 6.6 ft / lb. The Toyota bolts are still subject to breaking using that setting.

      You said "Hex Cap Screws, Size M6-1.00 x 20". Is the 20 mean the bolt is 20mm long? I would like to buy spares brfore I start a job rather than having them break in a middle of a job and not having any spares. Thanks

    Thanks for the video. This is so easy with your video. I hear people having trouble with putting the drive belt on...taking front passenger tire off...fuck that with the alternator still off weave that belt thru and end with the alternator pulley than put alternator on and use pry bar on with your 19mm ratchet...this is key the ratchet should have swivel head so u can get the leverage u need to pull the tensioner down than the belt just slips on with your free hand. Easy as pie

    There is a gasket available, I think it's a separate part number but it does exist and probably better than getting Black rtv in the new pump

    A few Things to add, I used a screwdriver to Jam into the two holes to loosen the bolts holding the cover. 3 went perfect and one was stripped so I cut that one off with a dremel. Also I used a lot of wd40 to avoid stripping anymore bolts. I did this on a 2006 scion tc.

    Update: This was super for my 08 water pump, but my 07 had a 14 mm tensioner and I had to remove the engine mount to get the wrench onto the tensioner...USA built with CA emissions maybe made it more complicated ?? Appreciate the video.

    I got 02 but with over 114000 i just got a oil leak i guess its the main seal.The oil leak spot has a little black plastic cover out of there and oil is driping slow. A slow leak but i never need to add oil.looks like a tough job

    So what if your new pump comes with a gasket. Will the gasket alone suffice? Or do I need to add silicone?

  • @angelisone

      Highly recommend Toyota. make sure you get correct color. pink or red. most new Toyotas last 10 years take pink. super long life. you do not have to dilute. red you do have to dilute with distilled water.

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rather buy one that I can mix than paying 1/2 coolant 1/2 water.
      Companies are fooling people by throwing in water & holding the price.
      Like laptops, taking out the CD/DVR driver and holding the price.
      Spray paint, chop in 1/3 and holding the price.
      Paying for cable/fiber TV and feed commercials.

      There is a chemical difference in the Toyota red and pink. I would use the correct color. they can react if mixed and break down your aluminum.

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sir Sweetness, It may last 10 years. But you and I know the thermostat/inlet, outlet, top/bottom hoses need to be changed before that.
      I use a spectrophotometry to measure the chemical.

      Toyota recommends just using their brand of sealant Toyota Seal Packing 103 (fpig)
      www.amazon.com/dp/B000EDDTV0/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_ldoPEb24YAZ8P
      But the RTV silicone shown is just as good. My replacement water pump from GMB came with a paper gasket. they recommend a thin layer of sealant on both sides. I used JB Weld Ultimate Black RTV 100% silicone.

    I feel like you skipped the part where you had to get the pulley wheel back in the water pump. Having trouble with that now, no idea why the type of coolant got time in the spot light but not part where you get the pulley in and out. If you still have that video edited out somewhere, please put it back in

  • @sirsweetness8332

    Make sure you clean off mating surface off engine before putting new sealant on that wet surface. I cringed watching this step.

    Is it possible to change the water pump, without removing the water pump cover? Also, if you use Prestone antifreeze instead of the Toyota brand, how much anti freeze vs water (ratio?) do you use to fill up this engine. 4 cylinder 16 valve , 2.4 Liter engine?

    • @mplsfarmer
      @mplsfarmer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The water pump PULLEY cover must be removed to access some of the bolts/stud nuts that hold the water pump to the engine. Use a 50/50 mix of any antifreeze that states it is for all makes, models and types of coolant/antifreeze. If you have the original Toyota pink coolant, it is like GM's Dex-cool--bad stuff. I would suggest flushing all of it out and replacing it with 5-year 150,000 mile Prestone coolant. If you live in a climate that gets below -20F in the winter, I suggest 70% coolant/antifreeze to 30% water.

  • @edge1307
    @edge1307 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IMO the application of the sealant is all wrong. Aisin , OEM for Toyota water pumps specifies running the bead on the outside of the groove, not in the grove.When mated, the groove allows a place for the excess sealant to go in, thus keeping it out of the coolant passage

    • @mplsfarmer
      @mplsfarmer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this is what Toyota recommends. And you are correct about the groove catching the excess sealant. But I don't think the excess RTV silicone will be a problem. I seriously doubt that any of it will fleck off and plug up anything. I'm a chemist and that RTV stuff is really strong. I just replaced my water pump with one from GMB, It came with a paper gasket and they recommended a thin layer of sealant/silicone on each side.

    • @user-ho4xq1io6s

      Everything has a torque, if you do it right. I myself judge the install and figure if it really needs the torque. I bought LMK t things everyday and know basically know torqueby feel

    why are you putting silicone there? the groove looks like it's made for an oring. cos you take it off and there wasn't one there doesn't mean none goes there. you may be repeating what the last idiot mechanic that worked on the water pump did. always check the IPB (illustrated parts breakdown) if unsure when reassembling things. cheers

    • @mplsfarmer
      @mplsfarmer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      see @edge 130's comment. He/she is correct that the groove is to trap the excess silicone/sealant. It is not for an o-ring.

  • @kiwianthony3878

    • @mplsfarmer

      See comment @edge 130 below. No gasket is needed. The RTV silicone becomes the gasket when it dries.
