    Awesome first vlog Gareth - make a few like this and your channel will be growing in no time 😊 Really awesome waterfall images and fallow deer - pretty sure that young buck was a fallow btw rather than a roe!
    PS. Definitely also recommend a LAV mic - made a big difference to sound quality of talking to camera when I got one!

      Thanks Geoff, you're very kind sir!
      I've learned a lot from this one and the next one I hope will be a big improvement.
      I was on the fence, but the short, sharp antlers and lack of any spots on the cost made me err towards a Roe. Truth be told I've only ever seen Fallow Deer when I've been in the Wyre Forest.
      I'm shopping for lav mic gear right now, ideally I'd like Rode Wireless Go, seems like the best all round solution with the most versatility.
      Thanks again Geoff 👍

      @@garethkelley3093 basically I'm thinking he was a fallow because roe bucks don't show off their dangly bits like that...😉
      The Rode Wireless Go is very good and I've been using it since May, but I really recommend pairing it with a wired lav mic - I found trying to use the Go's transmitter as a lapel mic (as they suggest you can) was a real pain as it kept falling off or losing its wind muffler!

      @@GeoffCooper you might be right at that Geoff, I hadn't considered that!
      That was exactly my plan with the Wireless Go, pair it up with the SC3 link cable and Rode SmartLav+. Just need to scrape £200 together 😂

    Nice vlog Gareth and for your first attempt I think very well done. Love the location shown, and in fact its close to me as I live in Worcester but shamefully I have never ventured into the Wyre Forest. Where would be the best place to park up and how to find the waterfalls?

    • @garethkelley3093
      @garethkelley3093  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're very kind Geoff, thank you.
      Park at the small car park on Dry Mill Lane, follow the main cycle route from the car park under a couple of bridges. As you pass under one of the bridges on the left you'll see a small fence with a gap in it that takes you into the Hitterhill Coppice area. The stream and waterfalls are along there. I think it's best visited just after a decent downpour so they're flowing well, but be prepared for mud!
      Its a beautiful place Geoff and I can't recommend it enough 👍

    I saw you ask for critique.
    With the sound levels, set the level manually. The first problem I noticed is that you were much quieter at the waterfalls. Probably, you sound recording device was deafened by the waterfall.
    I know a lot of vloggers use their camera to record sound. A Rode Smartlav+ into your phone is probably better. And cheaper. You can use Camera sound to sync in post production, maybe helped by a hand clap.

    • @garethkelley3093
      @garethkelley3093  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much, appreciated!
      I did run into a couple of sound recording issues, I'll be honest. I was setting the recording levels manually, but on the opening clip I'd got them set too high so it didn't sound great when played back. I basically used the Rode VideoMicro on my Canon 6D for the most part, but as I was also photographing the waterfalls with my 6D I used my smartphone to record video whilst.photographing. I couldn't see how it was possible to manually adjust the audio levels on the smartphone, I just got what I could.
      The Rode VideoMicro was great for a first attempt I feel, but far from perfect. I have been looking into the new Rode Wireless Go with a Lav mic, but it's a little out of my price range at the moment.
      I appreciate you taking the time to reply though, thank you very much 🙂

    • @oneeyedphotographer
      @oneeyedphotographer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garethkelley3093 The problem with sound on the camera is that it reduces as you walk away. I'd rather a Zoom H1n (or other Zoom with 3.5mm inputs) as they do have manual controls. You can use the Smartlav+, but it needs an adaptor, Rode has one. The Zoom works without an additional mike, it is better with one because the microphone is closer to your mouth.

    • @garethkelley3093
      @garethkelley3093  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneeyedphotographer I was thinking I could achieve much the same result with the Rode Wireless Go system actually. The receiver stays mounted on my camera,.plugged into the external mic jack, and the transmitter clipped on to me so it's always the same distance from my mouth. Or using the Rode SC3 adapter, plus the SmartLav+ into it.
      Almost £200 worth of gear that I can't afford just yet, soon though 😉

    • @oneeyedphotographer
      @oneeyedphotographer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garethkelley3093 I think the Zoom options are cheaper, and you can record sounds and speech without running the camera.
      I have bought a lot of my gear used, on eBay.

    • @garethkelley3093
      @garethkelley3093  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneeyedphotographer I certainly cant argue with that. But I think the Rode gear would integrate better with the setup I already have. But I'll definitely do some research into the Zoom kit, thank you 👍
