    Costco for hotel and car rentals are the cheapest I’ve found and Alaska airlines with their credit card, once a year you get a companion free, (you pay taxes usually $122) once a year! Best deal I’ve found!

    My husband and I always do the house rentals in Hawaii with Vrbo and we can get a cute 2 bedroom house with ocean view for less than 150.00 a night on the Big Island or at least under 200 bucks on the other islands, which is such a money saver! More room to spread out, private and not feeling like you’re stuck in a tiny, overpriced hotel room box with a jillion people at a hotel. Ahh, can’t beat it! 🥰
    Totally understand though, that some people like resort activities, etc. All travelers are different. 😎

      where are you looking at 2bedrooms for 150?? I'm looking now for mid August for a condo/studio and anything decent with a kitchen is $260 ish+ after all the fees included. But thats for a location on Waikiki cⁿ

      I love the feel of a secluded bungalow on the beach compared to a hotel room. Condos and hotels don’t give me that beachy vibe. VRBO is the way to go.

      The way I see it, if you're needing a resort, go to FL. If you want to see Hawaii, you only need a bed and shower... and maybe a kitchen. If you turn that TV on, you're doing it wrong.

      how many people and how much was each night broken down with fees. Im so confused about all of the extra fees. They said Oahu was $181 average but for what exactly and is that before the hundreds of fees?

  • @TopBillyn
    @TopBillyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    One thing people forget to budget is parking in Waikiki. If you are staying at a resort in Waikiki then expect to pay upwards of $20 a day for self parking or $35 a day for valet. For many resorts valet is the only option.
    If you are planning on staying in Waikiki for most of the trip just rent a car on the day or days you will be touring the island or making Costco runs. It will save you a ton on parking fees.
    I haven't had to pay parking fees on BI, or Kauai.

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great tip. Visitors will find resort fees and hotel parking fees added to their bill. Even Ko Olina resorts will have a parking fee. Two reasons why Jordan prefers vacation rentals most of the time.

    Hi Love and appreciate y’all’s content! It has encouraged me to take a trip to Hawaii in 2 weeks! Booking one now and after putting other fees into calculations, I am seeing nothing less than $350-400 a night for lodging. Perhaps February is a popular month to be in Hawaii. A trip with my parents (3 people total), ends up being $5900 total for Airlines, Rental Car (Jeep), and Lodging (Resort+Airbnb). Any other cost on top of this will be food and activities. What do y’all think about this cost? Would love to hear from yall!

  • @paullennon7995
    @paullennon7995 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Aloha you three. We have always considered that the flight there from Canada is so long that we always try for 3 or 4 weeks to make the most of it. Also, by booking a condo for that amount of time usually gives you a price break because the owners don’t have the additional cleaning costs due to the length of the stay. I would recommend that anybody booking uses a reliable website and company especially with this blasted virus and that you may have to cancel due to factors beyond your control. We were fortunate this year as the condo rental company refunded us all of our money, not so the airline ( WJ). Stay safe, maybe next year,

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We hope to meet up with you and your family next year Paul! We expect some good flight deals and condo deals in 2021. Flights really do go up when one isn't leaving from the west coast. There are a lot of BC people out here for that reason.

    • @paullennon7995
      @paullennon7995 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We live in SW Ontario so for us it’s a 24 to 30 hour travel day ( depending on flight and wait times) and a little longer getting home. Couple that with a 6 hour time difference you need the break when you get there!

    • @MikeCanuck
      @MikeCanuck 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jessy Kissinger, DavyCrew has a pretty good youtube video on moving to Hawaii with pets. There are a lot of things you must do first, because Hawaii does not have rabies, so they have stricter rules regarding pets. Probably not practical for a one to two week vacation.

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great timing for your question! We have a video and article coming out about the entire process of bringing our dog Hattie to Hawaii. In short, it's a long process and takes months of planning. But there are a number of dog-friendly hotels on Oahu. Turtle Bay, Queen Kapiolani hotel, four seasons, Kahala hotel

    • @scully392z
      @scully392z 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bringing a dog? You need to deal with quarantine and to shorten the stay, take the rabies shot before you come. It’s a hassle. Leave the dog at home.

    June 2021….Car rentals are sky high. Book your car rental before you book your flight. Seriously. It’s 40% less cars right now. During Covid the cars were sent to the mainland and there’s a shortage of new cars because of the chip shortage. People have paid 600. a day. No kidding!

    Another great vid!
    For us, it wouldn't be accurate to compare average rates, where all levels of facilities are factored in. We compare "like" hotels with similar types of views/locations and ratings. Then there are the local things to do. Some islands seem to be more about the beach experience while others also have historic or touristy activities. We prefer the latter and spend only a few hours of our stay at the beach itself.

  • @derbagger22
    @derbagger22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting. For our trip in September 2021, it was cheaper to fly to Kona or Hilo($299 one way) THRU Honolulu than it was to just to fly to Honolulu. If you wanted to fly bare bones, it was under $250 one way, on Hawaiian.
    We got an AirBnB for $50/night just south of Hilo. Car for 4 days is almost the same price as for 2 days in Oahu. We almost decided to just spend our entire time on the big island, but we decided to pay the costs of Oahu($175 for our single night in Honolulu).
    But, of course, the flood of travel during the pandemic has made things crazy and unusual...

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prices due change a lot. Nice job on the trip planning and getting all the costs. Those are good prices for 2021. We are seeing prices come down now that the summer season is closing out. Travel safely!

      short-term vacation rentals are legal as long as they are in the designated areas and zoned with the state/city. This website has good info and Aribnb and Vrbo must now show the tax map key in a listing. www.gohawaii.com/islands/oahu/accommodations/vacation-rentals

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide

      we list some scooter rental companies on Maui here: thehawaiivacationguide.com/rental-car/
      Road to Hana is already one of the top 10 most dangerous roads in the country, taking it on a scooter would be tough due to the blind curves and lack of a shoulder. I haven't seen scooters on the road.

    Hey guys from other people that also live there and TH-camr's opinion I heard that Oahu is very expensive and the cheapest one is Kauai & Lanai since is kind of sort of the least traffic lol. What's your take/opinion on that?

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do they provide cost data? See our article where we compare prices for the islands: thehawaiivacationguide.com/what-is-the-cheapest-hawaiian-island-to-visit/
      Oahu is always the best price as lodging is low due to competition. Lodging is your biggest expense in Hawaii. Lanai is a private island where you can stay at Four Seasons resorts, they aren't cheap. Don't bring up camping, anyone can sleep on a bench to save money.
