Must Try Amritsar Street Food I Pede Wali Lassi + Aam Papad + Pinni Making + Kulfa + Papad/Wadi

- In the last episode of our 5 parts Amritsar Food Series we are bringing you some iconic street food places which fall under the must try list. The food that we picked up from here were effortless, tasty and pocket friendly.
The first stop was Sharma Tea stall which sits in the busy neighborhood near DAV College. Clearly, this is a favourite hangout place of the students and locals alike who drop by for strong masala chai and some quick and filling snack. We opted for their masala chai and bun makhan samosa, an interesting take on bun tikki. As the name suggests it consists of a sweet bun which is slathered with butter and stuffed with a hot samosa. When you bite into it, the first taste that hits you is that of the butter which is then followed by the crispiness and mildly-spiciness of the samosa.
The second stop was Novelty Sweets and Restaurant, a popular name when it comes to sweets and snacks. It's a swanky and spacious eatery where one can try all kinds of traditional sweets and snacks. Here we tried some poori chana along with gur ka halwa and a few other things. Furthermore, we also got the opportunity to see the making of urad dal ki pinni, an essential winter time sweet in this part of the country. Watching a huge batch being prepared manually by a team of industrious workers using an insane amount of ghee and other ingredients was indeed a fascinating sight.
The third stop was Ram Lubhaya and Son's Aam Papad cart. Aam papad is basically sun dried fruit leather made of mango pulp. Amritsar's aam papad is so renowned that people carry it back as souvenirs. Here they sell different kinds of aam papam along with a few other zesty treats. We tried an assortment of aam papad with some chaat masala and lime. Ram Lubhaya has evolved into a popular name for Aam Papad. The interplay of sweet, tangy and zesty flavours resulted in a fun experience.
The fourth stop was Ramesh Sharma Sweet Shop known for desi ghee sweets, the most famous one being the gulab jamun. It comes in two fun shapes. One is like a small roundel and the other is like a disc. The sight of these hot, orangish brown sweets swimming in thick syrup made our mouths water and we ended up having quite a few of them. Made of khoya and paneer and fried in ghee, these melt in mouth gulab jamuns were heavenly.
The fifth stop was Giani Di Lassi whose pede wali lassi has a huge fan base. Yes you heard it right, it's the pede wali lassi that is topped with the butter obtained from peda. This lassi is thick, creamy and luscious. It comes in a tall steel tumbler and one is enough to keep you going for a long duration..
The sixth stop was Rana Fruit Cream. Locals flock here for their creamy fruit cream which is a stunning dessert made of fresh cream and fresh fruits. If you have a sweet tooth, you will love this chilled dessert. Although it is mostly enjoyed in the summers, it is also fun to have it in winters.
The seventh stop was Brijwasi Chaat Bhandar. We went there to try their famous bun tikki but also ended up trying a mixed chaat. All their stuff is made without the use of onion and garlic and yet it is phenomenal. The tikki stuffed in hot dog bun was crisp and well spiced while the mixed chaat made of kalmi vada, papdi etc was a complete stunner.
The last stop of this tour was A One Kulfi where we had kulfa which is a less frozen version of kulfi. It came along with various other topping. It is a perfect post meal treat.

Hi Anubhav 😎👋🏻. Hope all's well. Amritsar was on my list of places to visit when I go back to India 🇮🇳 this October but I decided to make most of my six months in India spiritual. Amritsar is a spiritual place because it's the home of Sikhism. It has amazing street food stalls and your views 398k + on this vlog prove it. However it's in the opposite direction of my spiritual travel plans. I'm going to Rishikesh, Varanasi, Bodhgaya, Jagannath Puri, Bhubaneswar and finally Kolkata before flying to Nepal 🇳🇵. I'll be there for three months before returning to Bhaarat. Jai Hind 🙏🏻🇮🇳👍🏻💪🏼!
