I was on a Sydney 41 in the racing division, right in the heart of this storm. Thank you for capturing it! We did fine, nobody was hurt, nothing broke, we were wet and sore but not scared- when you have a good team, there is no fear, just caution and confidence.
Thank you so much for sharing! Such a great capture/ edit of what we all experienced! I’m sharing this to the Chicago Sailors group and it’s about to get passed around there. I’m definitely having flashbacks of what had to happen.
Extraordinary experience, vivid images. Pity Man hasn't found a way of harnessing even a fraction of that awesome natural power. But Nature is there to teach us humility and perhaps show the way - in time!
I've wanted to do this race for nearly 20 years! Now that I'm living in the Mid-West I think 2024 will be my year. I just hafta find a boat and crew...
I can see you shook the reef about 15 mins before Vayu did. But we started 20 mins behind you, so it's about the same. We were certainly in the same storm at the same time. Brutal race. My best memory is using XM Weather to thread the needle past as many microcells as possible, and making sure we were ready for the 8-10 we couldn''t. We clocked 54 in one of the microcells. Not the 95 plus of 2011, but still survival sailing. I don't like it when it happens, but thank US Sailing for comprehensive training!
wow you all have some onions to be sitting on deck like that during an intense lightning storm like that. Lake MI is not for the faint of heart, as Ted Turner famously discovered. :) Incredible footage for sure!
I'm not one who is normally afraid of storm, heck I take lightning photos... on a boat in the middle of a lake, that would make me uncomfortable. You have some ⚽️⚾️🥎

OMG! Every sailors worst fear (well, one of them, anyway)! Great footage and the music was perfect. Thanks for sharing this.
Great video! That race was BRUTAL!!
Just glad someone took the opportunity to capture & share some those moments!!
Looks exhilarating!
This video actually does justice to how wild it was to be out there in this storm. Great footage, perfect song

Bit of a rule 41 issue there...
Wow!

Wow!!
Respect.
Weather was worth yesterday. I would be petrified with all of the lightning
Petarda!!! 👌🏻💪
Nice!
Nice video. Too bad you chose music over the actual sounds of the storm snd crew.
Can’t hear storm or crew in a time lapse video- duh!
Great video, but would prefer the natural sailing sounds. The music takes away from the experience.
Its a time lapse video- can’t hear “natural” sounds. I was there- all you’d hear is wind anyway!
meh
