Mark thank you so much. I am with you, so many repair videos are disorganized or way overproduced....just need the process. Not all of my videos are perfect but I try my best. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and thanks again, fellow mechanic!
Great video. I really appreciate your straight to the point, no nonsense way of conveying information. Too often many videos have guys trying to be cool entertainers. Worst of all are the background music videos.
Awesome videos. Very helpful and great amount of detail. I have an 07 & was in a wreck so now have to change this piece. I thought it was going to be way more work but you made it seem not as bad as I thought. Fingers cross I can do it lol
Did you have to replace any of the CV joint transmission seals? Also was the car giving any symptoms which prompted you to replace the axles, or was is just preventative maintenance? Also would the removal/replacement of the driver side be the same? Dod you replace both sides or just one?
razz P, I didn't replace any seals. The reason I changed this axle is because one of the CV boots was leaking. I would imagine the driver side to be similar, just shorter. I only replaced the pass side.
Hmmm. Micah, I don't think that's part of the abs. the abs ring sits inside the hub and there's a sensor that feeds data to the computer from there. if anything, I assume that piece on the CV shaft is a balancer or something. but again, I'm not sure and you may be on to something.
Hey, you have been MORE than helpful to me, so THANK YOU! I have unfortunately not found these until I destroyed the lower steering knuckle bolt (performs a pinching action). Do you have any recommendations on parts resources where I can order new bolts/nuts for that?
Hi Cal, sorry to hear about the messed up hardware. Unfortunately, I don't have any good recommendations past eBay. If you can get the part# from Nissan, usually you can turn up the right parts on ebay for a pretty good price. Good luck.
Love the 2007-12 sentras. dirt cheap parts and very reliable. i got the passenger side axle for $50 bucks delivered and both rear shocks for $48.....lol. spent $2000k on the struts for my 1999 infiniti q45 t (touring, with active suspension).
Everything went great. Took around 45 mins per axle. It was almost identical to what you did minus having to remove a bearing plate cover because this year model didn’t have that bearing on the axle. My reason for replacing was the passenger side inner boot was torn and throwing grease around (some of it was building up on my exhaust so there was a burning smell, this is how I first discovered the issue). I prob could have gotten away with replacing the boot but this way I think was faster and really not that much more $ if I were to replace all 4 boots. $120 for both axles. Happy camper over here! Thanks again for the video it helped me out big time. Without it I would have been much more nervous going into it.
lovely and detail video. I have an 2008 versa, its RHD. The left CV joint has being bad for some time now, however, once i go over 100KMPH, I am experiencing this humming sound. A friend of mine suggest its sound more like diff problem, but I'm more thinking it could be a bearing going bad somewhere in the drive. Any suggestion?
Andy, I'd replace that CV axle first and see if the sound goes away. You might get lucky on that. If not, my next guess would be the hub bearings on the wheels. I don't think these Sentras were particularly prone to driveline bearing issues, but it might depend on how many miles your car has on it. Thanks for the compliment and good luck with your car!
I have a 2010 Nissan Sentra 2.0 base model, it has a CVT transmission, is the vehicle you're demonstrating on here have a CVT transmission and if not are there any difference in the removal process
Hi John, sorry for the delay. Yes, this car has a CVT transmission so the process on your Sentra should be identical as far as I know. I'm no expert Nissan mechanic, so there may be minor differences in model year, but it all should be pretty close. Good luck!
Mine is bad too I have the 08 Sentra but pretty sure mine is not just going to come out of hub so easily lots of rust, any tips do I need slide hammer? Thanks for video , my right CV is making weird clunks pretty sure inner is bad
Is changing the driver side basically the same or are there differences I should be aware. Also torque do I really need to have a torque wrench or just make it snug? Also how long did it take you?
Ron, the driver's side is about the same, it's just a shorter axle so you don't have that carrier bearing, midshaft. For torque, I only worried about the hub nut torque on this car. I would absolutely use a torque wrench on that hub nut, everything else is by feel. It took me maybe 2 hours to do the whole job. Wasn't bad at all.
jcx, Thank you for getting back to me. Your video is great for a novice like me very informative and detailed!!!! Again thank you, you are a great help!!!! Hope to see new videos and I will definitely be looking at any other videos you have.
Well, I do have one more question before I get into it. The front driver side wheel is making a loud squeak noise all the time. It was doing it on and off before this so I had the front rotors and brakes changed now the noise is consistent none stop while driving. How do I know if its the CV axle or if its something minor. The shop I had the work done at said the axle was in good condition although he said there was a small amount of play in the axle but no need to put in a new one. He also checked the calipers said they were good as well. What would you think is making the noise? They had it for 6 hours and could not locate the issue.
Man Ron, it's so hard to say. My first instinct goes to brake problems, but there are a lot of parts down there....could be a bad hub bearing too. For me, I'd take the caliper off and spin the wheel and see if the squeak is still there. If not, it's a brake issue. If so, probably driveline related.
Edgar Flotte, no because no drive line angles are being changed. Now, if it's been awhile since you had one done, it's a good time to get that over with.
Do you service the transmission oil in you sentra? My 2007 sentra has 330K km it and I have never swapped the transmission oil in it, read somewhere it is a closed system and does not need swapping? I guess swapping out 500 mL when swapping the axle helps?
razz, no I didn't service the oil. my advice is that if the fluid has never been changed, don't change it. clean fluid after years and years of dirty fluid can have a solvent effect on transmission internals and mess everything up good. I made that mistake on an old Chevy truck once... never again. on the Sentra in this video, I simply caught the fluid that leaked from the shaft opening, and refilled it in the trans. that was 2 years ago and the car has had no issues.
Would you say it be even better to use a little bit of fresh transmission oil instead of using the used that leaked out, or would it not make any difference? The dealership sells transmission oil @ $24 per litre.
razz P, if I bought a brand new car I would just follow the maintenance recommendations in the owners manual. The manuals usually have all service required at service intervals. That's your best bet.
It's possible that the CV axle is shot. Check the boots, if they're torn or there's grease all over the suspension, it's a good chance the axle is to blame. I got the replacement axle on Amazon for 50 bucks so it's not a huge investment and is probably good preventative maintenance. good luck, let me know what you find.
I replaced both my cv joints and it was ok first day but next day they both clicking worse and I saw some where can you put lithium grease on there’s a place where the CV joint goes into the Hub Assembly they put the lithium grease I could be wrong but I saw on the video I just need a little bit of help because they’re both clicking worse than before I replace them
You replaced the joints and not the entire axle? Bold move! If that's what you did and they're creaking worse, just get a remanufactured axle assembly. I've tried to replace just the joints also before....not worth the headache.
@@jcx2bby I replaced both side the driver side was long and hard to get out and other side was short they were both what you said. I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra sr…
@@milissarightmire7234 I see. If it was mine I'd double check the inner axles were seated into the transmission completely. Even new ones can be bad sometimes. Good luck, please tell me what you find.

I'm honestly not sure since I did it myself, but I'd look at it like this. The axle is at least 50 bucks if you buy it. A shop will prob cost double that for parts. And it's about a 2 hour job, give or take, so plan for about 80/hr labor. So conservatively $350 or so. Hopefully less, but be prepared!
@@jcx2bby Okay, now I have some idea. Pepboys wants to do my passenger axle and install 4 struts on my Nissan Sentra for $600, not including parts. I don't know if they are overcharging me or what. Thank you.
@@filmtressmu8552 hmm. I suppose that isn't entirely out of line for labor on a job made up of those elements. They must be charging close to $100/hr. Depending on how much they charge for parts will make it a ok deal or a robbery!

Hey man, I have a 2010 as well. Was the tire area making a grinding metal sound?
The device in the center of the Driveshaft in the middle of the bearing in the outer CV is a harmonic dampener
