  • CARAVANNING AND CAMPING OFFGRID, Will the Allpowers S2000 solar powerbank really help. This portable power station will give 2kw of power while Offgrid caravanning or Camping. Is it better than a generator?
The Allpowers S2000 2kw solar powerstation can be charged via the portable solar panels and work really well on a sunny day. So we put it to the test running a caravan, we charge the leisure battery, run the heating and power the fridge, this thing also powered the microwave.

Hi mark they are very expensive and I was looking into getting one but instead chose to have lithium batteries fitted and charge them with solar panels and use an inverter and go away off grid for weeks without needing mains electricity and have the TV and soundbar all day and most of the night and always use the microwave for all of our meals. It works out much cheaper and you have more power than you would with the power bank. I bought 2x100ah lithium batteries which you can use 95% of the power and have thousands of cycles compared to a lead acid battery and they are also half the weight of lead acid.

We go off grid a lot and manage with a 2000 watt inverter but would still like a power bank because the inverter will not go to 2000 watt continues unlike a power bank that you can max out. As regards gas I carry 2 7kg bottles with an auto changeover regulator so that takes away the worry of the fridge packing up overnight. Auto changeover regulators could be something you could look at and do a video on perhaps in the future.

I wouldn't go anywhere without my Ecoflow Delta Pro. As the events I go to normally are off-grid, I wouldn't normally have access to mains supply or a generator. As I need to charge the batteries for my power tools. As well if needed to run the caravan.
The only problem I saw with the Allpowers power bank, was the 12volt outlet was blocked when using the 240 outlet above it.

Just the cost of them and couple of thousand recharge cycles compared to paying for hook up doesn't way up.
When you start using the power bank at home during winter, the cycles will soon deplete

I know the Ecoflow give a long warranty on their powerbank

At £1600 that is a lot of nights away not paying for electric hook up before pay back!! For yourselves though in a business setting & large yard very worth it's purchase price

If you off grid then there is no EHU available to pay for, last year we spent 48 consecutive days off grid and didn't connect to EHU once, all done via installed Lithium battery, Inverter and solar, cost £1500. This is similar solution but without the installing, if you cant/ won't make permanent installed solution or want to take it to the next vehicle then its a good solution

Yes depends how you use the caravan, for use they are great. We use it for DIY things too, running power tools, chargers to charge vehicle battery in storage etc.

Hi mark, interesting thoughts on this.. we added 500w of Solar on top of the 100w that was already pre installed, put in a dc-dc charger, second 120ah battery and a 2kw inverter and all this was still less than one of these power banks.. been living in the caravan off grid now for 4 months with no problems at all, although it has been summer will be interesting to see how we get on during the coming winter

Could you heat the hot water with the power bank ?

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes even the smaller 500w will do it. Most water heaters are under 200w so will heat the water for at least 2 hours in total, normally 20-30 mins ro heat the water up fully.

Copy and pasted the discount code but not accepted, but doesn’t matter as Amazon has better price at the moment
Edit: ordered the Pro from Amazon which arrived today but it’s faulty, it seems from the feedback reviews that quite a few arrive unable to turn on like mine, so sending back, don’t trust another as their quality control is clearly absent

Hi Mark I do understand these but at some £700+ does the average caravaner need one

    • @thecaravanplace

Yes I think it's only a quiet alternative to a generator but still won't give the performance of a generator
