I was sooo relieved when you "found" the cable tucked inside the door handle slot...now I know where to find mine when I attempt this in a couple of days...:)
I had a hell of a time getting the rod to stay up as well as getting it to fit through the hole of the plastic clip. I watched several of these guides, and this video was, by far, the least helpful (no offense, Mike!). Your comment, however, was immensely helpful. I tied dental floss on the rod and that was the leverage I needed. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I bought all 8 handles for 34$ the Inside and outside handles
I tie a string on the rod first, but I've done this three times in the life of my Corolla. The booger is replacing the OUTER handle with the lock.
