I don't know if it's the jedi trick you do in every video while saying "greetings" or because everything you play sounds awesome but I always want to buy what you demo'd. Keep up the good work !
These basses seem to be one of the best production F style basses available. Apparently they’re built by the custom makers of Elrick basses. I was after a Nash PB 63 but I’m leaving towards this bass now and will have some money left over for the totally unnecessary pedal board 🤘
I don’t think they are doing that to the bodies if i’m not mistaken. Come to think of it, i haven’t seen anyone roast alder🤔 Quick, copyright the idea! Lol
I thoroughly enjoyed this review! This is ‘the’ p bass tone for me. Cleary a great bass, but your ability to articulate all the particulars about this bass is what stands out. I hope you continue doing reviews. Thanks mate!
@@HondoFelder I can only afford b-stock Sires or Squires for the time being, the Klein 1959 and some Thomastiks turned my close out late 50s Squier CV into a next level thing, like I was afraid to touch it for a few days dude, lol. But I actually did touch it, lots.
I used to have the bass on which this is based, a 1962 Fender Precision--even down to the same Fiesta Red finish, although when I got it the finish had been removed, but there where still traces of it under the neck plate. I kept it for 30 years before selling it, something I regret to this day. Everybody used to say what a great sound it had---strangely they never said the same about my playing!
My first bass was a ‘Hondo’ short scale from the late 70’s/early 80’s and it was killer! I wish I still had it realizing how cool it actually was and it was really well made as well. I think it was manufactured in Korea and there’s no shortage of great instruments from Korea to this day.
Oh man! Hondo! These things sound fantastic! Every P bass I’ve owned (including my current main p bass) has been plagued with the dreaded dead spots around the 6th and 7th fret on the G string - poor tone, no sustain - have you experienced this at all with P basses? If so, do you feel like the torrefied roasted neck helps negate that issue at all?
Every "fender" style bass I've played has had an issue there. I think ita a problem with the design. I didnt notice it with this bass, but I also wasnt looking lol. I'll have to check it when I get a chance and let you know!
@@HondoFelder Cool! Thanks, man! I’ve read before that is has to do with the specific mass of the neck/headstock messing with the resonant frequencies of those notes and effectively canceling out those notes. So, I wasn’t sure if the roasting process changed those resonant frequencies at all, helping eliminate that phenomenon.
@@STEIJ6377 Absolutely. The only basses i've played with NO deadspot issues were designs with different headstocks. The roasting doesn't seem to help much in that department. I just checked and specifically at the 7th fret of the G string the note will sustain into a harmonic a few second faster than the 5th frets or 9th frets. It's noticeable if you're holding the note for 5 seconds or so, but you'll miss it if your moving through pretty quickly. it's no where near as bad as most of the fenders i've played, but i think that's due to the construction being much better on these lol.
This literally sounds as if you went back in time . Bought a pre cbs Fender Precision off the rack and brought it back to us in a Delorean . Absolutely beautiful . If anything it's a little better than the early 60s fenders I've seen and heard . Because it has better output and clarity . You ever notice how the early Fenders sound a little blurry on the low notes ?!
Wow! That is some incredible praise! Not undeserved though, I think. I do recall playing a 50s P a few years back and thinking it sounded a little soft in the low end. Still big and awesome, but I could definitely hear someone calling it blurry.
Great review & great playing~ I would love to see a high mass bridge on it, but I know that's not vintage style. I LOVE the 1.75" nut width~ kind of a rarity & it's how I started with my 82 G&L L2000.
I always love this bass in your videos and really enjoyed the review. I shouldn’t be getting any more...at least for a while...but now I’m gonna go lookin and that means anything can happen 😹 Awesome work Hondo! I dug it 😎

Bro, I was thinking the same 😂😂
Thank you for not just slapping the bass. You truly showed the entire range of this bass. Amazing and sexy!
Thanks for checking it out! To be honest, i hate slap so it was easy 🤣
Those basses sound like PURE FIRE! 🔥🔥🔥 If they feel as good as they sound, I may need to add *yet* *another* P-Bass to the stable! 😁

Damn, that bass sounds killer! And looks sexy as hell!
PD: You always make me drool with the MBD2 lol
Such a sick pedal man! I'm hoping to try DA's new Curmudgeon Distortion too. I bet it's just as badass.
MVP4 looks sick, that color POPS! Great vid man!
Right?! Its almost glowing. Thanks for watching!
What. A. Sound.
HONDO! where you at bro?!
Getting my act together for a comeback 🤣
Nice touch with the flats vs wound rounds comparison. Another great interview.
Just smashed and burned all my p basses. Modern vintage here I come.
Hondo, are the bodies torrified too? Somebody's doing that, if it's not MV I dont recall who.

Swank Hondo. Your "This must be mine!" moment is the very same thing that happened to me when I heard Klein pickups.
Just looked at those! I’d love to try some. 🤘🏽

Do fender pickguards fit on these?
I don’t believe so, but give them a call!

Awesome review, thanks for sharing
I'm particularly digging pocket of the tone open with flats sections. Nice demo, Hondo!
Thanks brotha!
How have you found the Trickfish? Sounds like it really makes the character of the bass pop?
I'm a big fan! They do a great job of being clean sounding, but not weak and sterile like some other class d rigs. Great for pedals!

Can't go wrong with a P with flats or rounds! Sounds great :)
What kind of strings did you run on these terrific basses?
Dunlops super brights on the rounds (pretty played in), and Thomastik Infeld for the flats 🤘🏽
