  • The new Lee Auto Drum Powder Measure is easily set up with designated drum inserts adjusted for our favorite loads - right at our fingertips. However, we might wind up with quite a few of the drum inserts...Here's one way to organize them...

    I finally got my Auto Drum Powder Measure from my local reseller after 2 months of waiting (shipping to Europe takes time I guess ^^) and I'm amazed at the accuracy and dependability! It made reloading my match-ammo way faster and is real fun to use. Thank you for showing us this amazing piece of Lee ingenuity!

    Cookie,, I'm glad that you are enjoying the drill press and coming up with custom projects for your reloading room. The things you can make are endless, As long as you have a need I have found that the light bulb will turn on automatically over your head. Organizers and Load blocks, ammo carriers, even a small block of wood drilled with small holes to hold neck brushes, Primer pocket reamers and cleaners that fix to a screwdriver handle can be made in a jiffy. I Made a shell holder rack for all of my shell holders, and I have made a rack for commonly used die sets as well. I really like the Auto Drum rack Project that you made. I'm going to make one too.

    The new auto drum powder measure is fantastic! After a couple thousand rounds i have found it to be extremely consistent and easy to adjust. Last week I ordered and received a Lee Pro 1000 for .223, these are shipping from Titan Reloading (Lee distributor) with the new powder measure. I now have a Pro 1000 dedicated for 9mm and another Pro 1000 for .223 and .380 (.223 and .380 use the same shell plate so all that is needed is to swap out the die head). I will be purchasing two more Auto Drum Powder Measures... one to leave attached to my .380 die head and the other for use on my single stage. The old auto disk measures that I have will be pushed to the back of the shelf to collect dust... as good as the old disk measure worked the new auto drum is a huge step ahead. And how often do we see a new and improved product that is actually less expensive than the older version? On the Titan Reloading site the new Auto Drum Powder Measure costs $3.00 less than the old Auto Disk Powder Measure!

    Have you or have your heard of the auto drum deforming the case next when charging the case? Every once in a while I have a clicking and what I found out it was is the case mouth hanging up on the edge of the piece inside the charging die that the case mouth is to center on to charge it. Lee has not been much help, they said things were out of time, but it works great and then hangs up and spill powder all over the priming station.

    Nice!!! When I received my drum, I boogered the vertical bar by not noticing the drum edging ever so slightly sticking out the conical part of the drum and so the ram lever caught on the metal drop tube edging and bent the vertical bar going up to the rotate the drum. Lee was stellar and sent me a new one free. Learn by burn once again. I really like this powder measure. It is faster, cleaner, easier to set up than my Hornady powder measure. It doesn't chop the extruded and is very accurate. You must really like it from all the powder measures and drums. Have you found any powder that fights you? If so, how far off by grains?

  • @GunFunZS
    @GunFunZS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe each one can get a different color drip of model paint or nail polish, and the same drip by it's label. that way you can't ever mix up which drum goes with which load on the board.

    Did you have any cast flashing on the inside where the drum picks up the powder? Got one today and there seems to be a decent half circle flashing where the hopper feeds the powder.

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff Gaulden - No flashing in my three, but you might have been unlucky to get a manufacturing defect - You could remove it yourself with care not to damage the elastomeric cutoff. If the cutoff is functional, the flashing will act as another internal baffle perhaps helping the measure function, or not - depends on the severity and location of the flashing. I'm sure Lee will replace that entire measure for you if you do wind up sending it back - this is frustrating though. Best Regards, FC

    Nice informative video, but wait ......... how long have you had that old Jennings bow ?.. that looks like one he made when he was in North Hollywood or Burbank , California ? That is an old 4 wheeler ;- )

    • @FortuneCookie45LC

      Joseph Schmoberg - You know your bows. Bought that bow back in the early 1980s when the risers and compound limbs were still made of wood and aluminum arrows were still front line. Yes, Jennings made that bow sold through dealers - one of which was in Fremont, CA. Thing belongs in a museum today. Got interested in archery when I was at UC Berkeley back in the late 60s shooting wood recurves on the quad. Currently shooting a PSE. Good archery to ya..!! FC

    Could you elaborate on the removal of the charge disconnector ?
    Thanks

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Btravlin - Thanks for the good question. The idea of the disconnector is to prevent double charges since the disconnector has to be hit to allow another charge during use on single stage presses. But we have our own disconnector that we have always used in the past - namely, when we stroke the press to expand the neck, flare the case mouth and drop the powder charge, we simply remove that case from the press to get the next case - simple. No chance of double charging unless we leave the case in the press so that a second charge would be dropped into the same case - so why the disconnector? And then if used on a progressive press, there is a little chain so that the press plate can automatically disconnect the disconnector each stroke so that every case will get a charge. But if automatically disconnecting the thing is the way to go, not having it would do the same thing.without the need for a chain. And all the other powder measures that have no disconnectors - how can they have been successfully used for the past 70 years without them? So the case can be emphatically made that the disconnector in the new auto drum is useless. The measure is excellent, but the disconnector is hopeless - and forgetting to use it will result in no charge cases - also dangerous. OK, to remove the disonnector - there is a little screw that is removed and then the disconnector parts are removed, then the screw is replaced in a different hole - the exact instructions are in the little handout that comes with the measure, and easily accomplished. I really like the Auto Drum, and would take the disconnector out first thing. Best to ya, FC

    I just got my Lee Auto Drum powder measure the other day. I like the way it works, but mine has a problem with the drum retainer screw. It is not holding the drum tight, it seems to be stripped. Upon further investigation I noted that the screw will go into the hole almost half way before it will grab any threads. I found out that Lee knows about this problem and will fix it. The screw put in the knob is not of the right diameter to grip the drum. Have you had this problem with your measures? I think I will go to the hardware store and get a longer screw and fix it on my own. Lee will give you the part for free, but they want you to pay for the shipping.

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dale Hahn Sr - Have not had any problems with my three ADPMs - sorry to
      hear that you were one of the unlucky ones to get factory defects - and
      there will be some of those - especially with those molded nylon parts -
      I got two extra sets of drums and no problems there as well... If you
      must pay for the shipping, see if Lee will send out a couple of knobs
      plus a new drum as well - everything I have on the ADPM grabs threads
      immediately. Tell 'em you'd be glad to spread the good word...If you
      drop my name in there somewhere, they might hang up on you depending on
      who you get on the phone...lol - Best Regards, FC
