A traveling band of oldie but goodie singers. Yeah man, the trail absolutely needs that. Thanks for sharing your fun time, it all looks so amazingly spectacular.
Thank you, Dixie for putting these up. My photo is actually near the half way point of the AT in Michaux state forest. I find inspiration as i look at this over and over and they are really entertaining.
Neat hostel. Sweet hospitality. Fun loving Family. Hearing that old pop tune from my youth, sung by adventurous ingenues, was quite moving. Post another video soon !
About the fiddleheads. The ones with the “white cactus type fur” are not especially edible. There’s another type that has a thin brown paper type covering on them. Those are edible.
The crowd hiking is a contrast from the PCT hike later. Not sure where you are most of the time except for references to towns or gaps . Not sure of the date either since it seems cold for summer.
I really enjoy these zero day videos as well. I know some people just want to see hiking & nothing else, but I really enjoy both. I like seeing the fun side. I know I can’t be the only one who enjoys the zero day vlogs. Anyway, thank you! I’ve been binge watching a bunch of your old videos b/c you’ve inspired me to try out small section hikes. I love Day hiking, & camping, so why not combine the two. I won’t know till I try it, right? I used to think this would never be for me, too much trouble, blah, blah, blah. Well, I’m planing my first backpacking trip sometime this year. If something comes up then I’ll do it next year, but I WILL do this. I just have to save enough $ for gear. So it may have to happen next year. I’ll buy my stuff one piece at a time if I have to after each payday.
Dixie, I sure am enjoying watching your journey! Thinking maybe I can do it one day too. For now, I'm curious....the instruments (guitars) I've seen so far in your videos... Do hikers carry those with them or are some of the hostels and other stopping points kind enough to have those around for anyone to relax and enjoy with?
When I have looked at the different numbers for the AT I was under the impression it was a torturous 2100 mile battle against the elements and ones self. It looks more like a... I wont say holiday because I appreciate the physical and mental effort needed. With all the trail magic you guys are seriously lucky. In the UK we have the end to end challenge. It may only be 1200 mile however you do not get anywhere near the same level of support unless you happen to be a celebrity.
I hear ya! I think it's probably slightly more challenging that what you're imagining, haha. I didn't record every challenging minute, and likely more of the good ones. I am thankful for all of the support we receive! I think it will be different this summer on the PCT. We will see.
Great videos :) I watch/listen to a few everyday here at work. Yeah, it seems like there is tons of trail magic and angels along the way! Definitely a blessing! How often (in terms of miles or days) did you encounter trail magic or resupply spots? The trail doesn't seem very private or secluded from what I have seen in your videos thus far.
Wait wait wait... What happened to Shadow?!? Did you find her owner? Did she go home? Did she get a new home? Did she get food and shelter? Was she just left behind? I MUST KNOW.
+Brisdad53 I agree. Even if you hiked 100 miles, it's a damn good feat. I mean... one hundred miles. Think about that as distance. That's almost a third of the country I live in. To me, that's a MASSIVE amount. Good on you Brisdad!
I had a Timber Rattler take a shot at me between the Priest Shelter and RT 56. Have you had any of these encounters? I had my 3/6/10 year old boys with me!
This is what i love most about hiking the trails in company of like-minded fellow masochists - you are 'pulled' along by the people in front, and 'pushed' along by the people behind you. One can do an amazing amount of miles/km's this way. At rest stops, it pays to change the point-guard, to give the previous one a break and wind down. Gods forbid you end up with a 'powerhouse' that becomes the next point-guard! They disappear into the scrub, motoring along like the Lone Hiker, and miles up the track, bitch at how 'slow' you were! Lol.
I can walk 65 miles if I want to. But that doesn't mean I should. Knowing your limits increases the average miles you can do. If you get pulled too hard by other people, you walk more than you should and you'll pay the price during the next days.
So all these people you're now hiking with, did you know any of those before it started and organized to start and hike together, or are these people that just happened to be starting the thru-hike on the exact same day you did? Is this typical of the amount of people that are going through each day?
A Jay People hike at different speeds, take breaks, get injured. Being in the same place doesn't mean they started on the same day. You might pass a person one day then a week later they might pass you.
Are you guys heading all the way to Katahdin or just to Harpers Ferry? You may need to pick it up a bit...(not trying to be negative or rude), but you'll need to be on Katahdin by October 15th. However, I have no idea when you started, so maybe you're going at a great pace... Other than that, glad you are enjoying the trail.
Peakbaggers For Cancer Harpers Ferry by July 15 for NOBO hikers is the rule of thumb. It's possible that weather can close Katahdin earlier too so I wouldn't cut it too close if I were NOBO. Keep up the good work "editor"...thank you!
I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It's the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I'm a woman
Watching this series for the 2nd time. Getting me more and more excited for the trail next year!!
Loved your AT Throughhike as well as Dixies, thanks for that :)

Amazing. A place so welcoming the animals feel at home. I wish more places were like this. These people are living the dream.

It is great that you have the trail family support and they have yours. and editor you are doing a great job keep up the good work.
GREAT JOB ON HITTING 800 miles this week!!! Keep Going Dixie and The Family!
Fun video! Nice insight into "family life" on the trail. Thanks!
These videos are super fun.
Luxury hikers. Ha ha ha. Bless you and your good luck. Fun is all good.

The AT is a mountain ridge trail. It's up and down continuously. Rugged. Strenuous. Nothing easy about it.
I don't know if Dixie just filmed less hiking and more hanging out or if it was literally less hiking and more hanging out.
yeah this is the day they took a 0
It is good that you have the family support.
Walk on....girl.........HSHF
Check out "Hallins Ferry", also, all good, and, and, and, up close and personnel. Nick Longo, Rob Feyhay, and Tony.
I'm often hearing music from "Into the Wild" on your hike. That's my favorite movie, and I'm guessing the favorite movie of some of the hikers too.
Wait wait wait... What happened to Shadow?!? Did you find her owner? Did she go home? Did she get a new home? Did she get food and shelter? Was she just left behind? I MUST KNOW.
Same!
Sad that out of 10 people in this group and after 2 years no one has bothered to answer these questions ... disappointed.
Are there any updates on Rigga and Body Slide's Trail-fling?! Were they dating before? Details please :)
I love these videos
Great video. Wish I was younger. Good luck.

+Chasing the North England? Doing some stealth camping and hiking?
Shadow was on the search for the legendary good girl everyone was asking about.

How expensive was it to do the entire AT? (I know you are on the PCT right now and you are doing amazing!) How much is it compared to the PCT so far?

Check out the music of "Badfinger". It's all good, like the "Beatles".
Badfinger's first three songs were of course produced by P. McCartney, their first hit also written by him. All good though, like the Beatles???

little goat was rolling something...
For the first time on your channel i see backpacks, that are FAR from UL. Good ;]

She's actually a good bit ahead of the videos. Since I'm only editing 1 video a week it's hard to fit a whole 7 days in a video at once.

Molon Labe Exactly....and in this video they were still in Hot Springs, NC!
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman

We should hike together
I don't think so
