As I was growing up in the 90s I used to switch on the television at 5:20AM in India to just listen to Bill Lawry commentate. I cannot forget those years. The start before the matches began was always The Great Richie Benaud but Bill Lawry was someone I always used to wait for. Hope that I can meet him one day whenever I go to Australia. Love you Sir Bill Lawry.
Super Super Commentary . We enjoy Cricket only with your Commentary Sir . Grew up watching Cricket on Channel 9 with fantastic commentary of Bill Lawry , Ritchie Benaud , Tony Greig ,
Usually in the commentary box ex players will occasionally mention themselves in a past match and possibly a certain situation. Bill never ever did, it was always about the present.
I went on a tour of Europe with his lovely daughter Liz .. she said to me my dad is a member of the MCC.i thought she meant the MCG.very funny and she was a credit to her mum and dad.
My favourite commentator ever. Miss his voice these days. Cricket is so boring without characters like Bill Lawry and Tony Greg. Hope persons like Ian Smith, Nazzar Hussain, Harsha Bhogle etc can reach the levels of these greats.
@@sentimentalbloke185 John Snow's observation: "he lead the team like he approached an innings at the crease, full of caution in a low-key style & unwilling to take the slightest risk."
@@sentimentalbloke185 Yes, excessive caution, particularly when it might've saved your job, in your last test match, is 'a negative', regardless of whatever degree it might've matched your opponent.
@@spookytoothable1911 They sacked him because of the letter he wrote about the previous season's tour. Lawry was never embittered by that & took it well, proving what a positive character he is. Illingworth captained no differently.

The 'corpse with pads', terrible, unimaginative captain & the worst commentator I've ever heard in my life.
What's meant by 'unimaginative captain'?
