@@nativeterramining621 wow...thank you very much for the quick reply!! I got into hounding in the Wells area in California but live in texas. So I've been dying to get out and get my hands dirty. Thanks for the info and I'll let you know if I happen to find something worth mentioning
My father worked for the electric company here in Texas or 33 and a half years. Back then it was called TP &L. He found and I remember him taking us out to an entire piece of land covered in petrified wood. It must have been a forest at one time. It was so much of it you had trouble not stepping on it as you went. I believe it's private property now.
And it was possibly next to my property that I live on now. The property was part of a cattle ranch and you couldn't not even step without tripping on a petrified rock and yes were served by TP & L back then. When the ranch was sold and broke up into small lots the place was bulldozed and I guess the petrified rock was collected before the dozing. Wish I had pictures, but back then we took it all for granted us kids played with them and never thought a thing about it being so special of a place.
There’s a lot of areas out in Buchanan Dam and Kingsland localities, Hoover valley too, that whole area. That are filled with petrified wood like that. It’s when the big droughts hit and the lake/river beds are exposed. You can find whole thick ass petrified tree stumps all over like damned grass. I had a huge collection
im really impressed with you knowledge. most people on youtube make videos to hear themselves talk and rant on. You video is fun inviting extremely knowledgeable.
I'm from tx and never knew the state had so many mineral deposits around until I watched his vlog. I enjoy looking for rocks and now I know where to hunt for them
Rick Davis I really have no clue friend, all I know is McAllister Park is chock-full of that stuff, and along the banks of a few rivers like the Uvalde have some fossils.
Good ole Texas. As you mentioned though, much of Texas land is privately owned....and Texans takes trespassing serious. So for sure do your research. The only Gold mine I know of in Texas is on a private ranch down around Presidio. I was actually given a ride around the property and saw the old mine. This was back when gold was $800oz and climbing. The owner didn't have any interest in reopening the mine then and could careless about it now. Such a beautiful piece of land as well.
I know this is an old video, but dang I had to say this. Y’all gave this man, that is making a very well done informative video, such a hard time about pronouncing Llano. Some of y’all made these comments, telling him how to pronounce it incorrectly, making yourselves look dumb. Llano is a Spanish word that means flat, double L is a Y sound in Spanish. The more you know. Thanks for the video man. It was very helpful.
I’m from Texas and everyone pronounces it Lano. No Y sound. Just like people who speak English call The Rio Grande the Rio Grand. I think it’s hilarious how Spanish speakers are such Grammar Nazis 😂 They always complain when you don’t roll your r’s 😂 😂 😂 I

Ok...native Texan here. If you come down and want to search the Llano River, don't call it the Yano as some "experts" are saying. It is of course a Spanish word but it's pronounced Lano, just ignore all the "proper" instructions. Oh and Welcome to Texas...have fun
I bet you live in central Texas. Most people don't count my part of Texas as Texas. For when they say west Texas, it hundreds of miles to the east. Btw amethyst can be found in real west Texas. But it's on private land. For $100,000 I will sell someone 10 acres with acces to the mountains it's found in. Must have vehical with ground clearance, lots of tires and lots of fuel, to get from the 10 acres to the mountains. From highway to property can be done with a car, less then 1 mile. From property to mountains is approx 40 miles by very rough road. Fuel is 80 miles away 24/7, and 30 miles away Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm Sat 9am to noon. Again it's private property. ( so yes it illegal to get the stones) So, in short. Without a way to get to it. You can't. The only roads to the mountain are locked. One from the east, and one from the north. And I use the word road loosely. Most is not maintained. There is also gold, silver and copper in the same area.
Unfortunately, im in El Paso. Nothin but granite and the local mines have a complete monopoly on it here lol... ive heard theres Turquoise up in NM and some other gems.
I'm originally from California did a lot of painting for gold and Crystal collecting but now live here in Abilene Texas nothing really knowing what to look for here
Alright so I'm confused. Any search for "Amethyst mountains" brings up to mountains in Yellowstone National Park. There's no mention of an amethyst mountain in Texas.
Just FYI, Llano is pronounced Yawno (the L's are silent or pronounced as a Y.) The word is Spanish. It's commonly mispronounced by people north of Waco so don't feel bad. 😊
I guess Llano county is north of Waco, because everyone there pronounces aa an "L", not "Y". I have live in Texas all but 3 yeas of my life, and I have NEVER heard anyone pronounce the "LL" as a "Y". Logan-5 I live in East Texas as well. Last year I found a strange looking rock, that looked like it had shaped in an unnatural way to fit in between your thumb, index, and middle finger. Long story short it turned out to be an Indian artifact, a small stone knife ment for a right handed person, to scrape animal pelts clean or to make fine cuts.

You can find gold, silver, copper and even some platinum in creeks and rivers every where in Texas. Do research on how to read a water way and go find it. Also research the old volcano trails that were under the ocean that covered Texas millions of years ago. I follow the old volcano locations and I find it. I live in waco and its all pretty easy to find if you just do some studying. Google earth helps also :)
