I’ve had this bag for 7 years and its never failed me. Sustained very little damage. All the zippers still work, Velcro still sticks, etc. This bag almost enjoys getting beat. I use it as a get home bag now for my vehicle.
I bought one of these at Walmart for $30 about nine years ago. It’s rock solid and has held up great. Used it on dozens of wilderness hikes and was amazed how comfortable it is. I’m 6’-2” and 250+ lbs, and it rides my frame just fine. I now keep it filled as an ‘extra’ go-bag, in case be have visitors when the shtf. 😉
This is essentially a cosmetic variation of the 5.11 Rush 12 pack with the biggest difference being the addition of the side bottle pocket. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I am a skateboarding filmer, and a bit of a bug out nerd. This bag is the perfect combination for both. I am so stoked to be getting this bag! Great video homie!
Thank you for sharing your opinion on this pack. I was needing some information on it before I ordered one. Now I know it will do a good job for what I need. Thank you for the review.
I use one also and love it, mine is packed out with my fishing gear right now. I fly fish so it works great being able to have it on my back when I move to different parts of the lake and still be able to tap the edge of the bank while walking and not have to stop and put down a normal tackle box to cast.
Mine is at 18 lbs right now. It's comfortable enough for an extended trek and I'm of short/medium weight stature. The chest strap is not as tight as I'd like it to be with lighter clothing, but it's fine with a warm weather jacket/coat. The cushioned back area makes things extra comfortable. I agree that 20-25 lbs of fill would be the top end tolerable working weight for this bag (and for me). Carrying that weight should be no problem for a bigger/stronger person. I found that side pocket for bottles to be too tight and added an extra zippered molle water bottle bag that was large enough to accommodate a Stanley cook cup set or SS water bottle inserted into a camp cup. The water bottle pocket side now has a couple of small admin pouches in a stacked formation. There is still plenty of room to pack more stuff into those areas right now. With the addition of the extra bags there are plenty of quick access options outside of the main compartment. This includes the 3 zippered areas at the very top and front of the bag. I always spray 2 coats of waterproofing for added protection. Overall, a fine starter BOB/GH bag, casual backpack, or light-duty EDC bag for the price point that is versatile and doesn't overly look like you're going into battle. Picked mine up in black for less than $30 on sale a few years ago.
That is a great use for it. I'm constantly moving bags around for different purposes. As of late, this pack has been a truck pack if I ever need an extra one.
@@adaptablesurvival This is actually one the highest quality backpacks I've ever owned. It's honestly better than my 5.11 MOAB backpack. I can't see any wear and tear after using it for over a year !!
I have two of these backpacks one in coyote brown and one in OD Green. I use them for get home bags in both of my vehicles. you know get home bag or inconveniently camping at the moment bag. I like him they're a durable little bag they carry well not a problem with them I'd buy it again
Great review! Before I purchased the ninja I have the Field line I purchased at Wal Mart for about the same price and it even looks about the same. I think the sog pack is a little heavier material which is great, and the od color blends in well with the foliage here in summer. I think it's gonna work out great.
Great overview/review on the pack. I have been thinking about getting a pack like this and for the price, this might be the one for me. Thank you for sharing. - Jeremy
The design has changed slightly . . . there are no longer "tubing ports" to the left or right of the top carry handle. You can only run tubing through the main compartment zippers which negates the "waterproof" construction a little.
I have the newer one as well. Go check to see if yours has a hydration port right in the middle of the top of the pack. It's really hidden well, in between the shoulder strap yoke, and the zipper for the fleece pouch. I didn't find it on mine until owning the pack for almost a year! Sure beats running the tube out of a partially open zipper!
Just a specific question, by any chance, could you check the width of the water bladder pocket for me? Against the backpanel in the inside. Want to know if mine fit. Thanks alot!
Hey could you tell me which is the size of the front velcro patch (the skull one) and if you could tell me the size of the water bottle place would be awesome thanks
great review, Brother. that would be an awesome day hikes pack. I used to see that pack and sling edc pack in Wal-Mart's all the time. I wonder why SOG pulled their gear out?-Scout
kidbach Not sure, I used to see them there too. I got mine at Fleet Farm, which is a local store in my state. But they do make great daypacks on a budget.
First of all, thank you for being the guy who takes the time to answer. I’m taking two wool twins because the single queen is too expensive. I have a couple of questions about the class. First, how many litter bag should I get to be enough to fit everything comfortably? Second, I won’t have a car there, I’ll be dropped off for the weekend. Will I have a place to store some gear or will I need to carry everything I bring around with me? I’m wondering if I need a frame pack or will a frameless pack be good enough? Again, thanks for taking the time to reply, it’s appreciated brother.
Is this pack still going strong? I noticed you posted this video a few years ago. Just wondering if it's worth the investment, or should I invest in something $70 more?
I don't use this on a daily basis, so it's held up. But I have turned it into a pack that just rides in my truck. I've heard of them wearing out on people. Who've used it more often. I would look for something in the $70-100 range, just for more dependability of materials.
Granted for the price, I wouldn't expect this pack to last for a long time. I've never used it as an EDC, but I made the one I own as a pack I can leave in my truck if I ever need it. Thanks for watching

I've been using mine for years with no issues.
I keep a wool blanket and plashpalaka rolled up underneath.
I carry sog knives at work, I love them. I just bought this pack for my 8 year old son for school, he’s going to flip when it comes in.

Soaring Eagle Outdoor Adventures Glad i was able to help you out. Yeah for the price you can't beat it.
I use a SOG Ninja for my EDC bag.
PrioritySurvival Its one of the packs in my every evolving rotation. Mainly use it as a daypack for the woods.
Nice job, thank you for the review!
This is a really solid review. I was not expecting that.
I have another tab open where I'm looking at the maxpediton fatty glad to see it fits well inside that front pouch
Very good objective review. Just got one at Blains fleet farm and looking for ideas on how to use it.
Best review! Thanks for the info
nice review. you keep it moving and cover lots of ground with a minimum of chatter. appreciated.
Looks like a budget friendly rush 12
Honestly, great everyday carry backpack.. Sold mine to a friend and i regret it...
Definitely can't go wrong with it. For the price, it's hard to beat!
Another good pack that would be just fine.

Would this be big enough for the SRO basic class? I go in Oct and need a pack to take.
Great question. No this would be cutting it close size wise. It would be hard getting the wool blanket into one of these

Hey great review brother, if you could reply and let me know what color this is I’d really appreciate it, I’m pretty it’s the olive right?
Yes this is an od/olive color bag. I actually still own it, but just don't use it as often.
Adaptable Survival sweet thanks for the reply brother(:
