- My mom has been waiting for a grandchild for years. Knowing that my sister and brother-in-law were not going to try for another year, my mom had put the thought of her first grandchild on hold. Little did my mom know there was a whoops (even though my sister has been married for four years - which makes the whoops okay.) My sister wrapped a picture of her puppy (my mom calls it her granddog, Molly) with a sign on it saying Molly was going to be a big sister on August 19th and gave it to my mom on Christmas morning. Watch and see the excitement and joy the news brings to my mother. We are a blessed family and cannot wait to meet the new family member in August.

I was told I couldn't have children but by some miracle we were blessed with our daughter, can remember telling my Mum I was pregnant as she burst into tears and then squeezed everyone within an inch of their lives!

Maybe the reactions are more like this; Grandma = instant emotional display of joy. Grandpa = instantly thinks "that's awesome" followed rapidly with, first I need to baby safety proof the house, I got time to hand build a crib before the baby is born, the son-in-law and me can work together to convert their spare room into the babies room with a nice remodel, and I need to call my broker and start a college fund for the child, and I hope he or she likes baseball............etc.

Dammit. As a father, I already know that by watching this I'm setting myself up for a solid hour of watching videos of grandparents being surprised with the news. Revealing a pregnancy to the people you love is just plain wonderful and fun.
(And as a father of twins, yeah this TH-cam binge is only going to escalate.)

My niece did something similar. She asked her mom to pose as her in a family photo with her husband, his 2 older kids, her son and their daughter. When Mom asked why, she said "I want to be sure all 7 of us fit in frame." Mom looks at husband and says " She didn't get her math skills from me." When he just steadily grinned back at her she finally got it!
