    Don't forget hand guards to protect your clutch and brake levers. Those, plus the skid plate and foot pegs are the only 3 mods new owners need to make the perfect trail machine. After that, the headlight bulb replacement, then upgrade the rear sprocket to a 46 tooth & O-ring chain set to make it run better around town as well as down trails and you'll have the perfect little bike. 😊

    • @hurt1704
      @hurt1704  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep those are on the list as well! Slowly riding it breaking it in figuring out what all I need. You went with the 46 tooth over the 47? Thanks for watching!

    I am 76 years old, and I had a 94 XT 600. I was riding it last year on a 2 track, but when I went around a tree across the road, I got off-balance and tipped over. I was alone, (like I always am), it took me 25 minutes to figure out a way to lift that top-heavy, high-geared beast up. I went back to the truck, loaded it up, and went to my favorite bike shop and had him sell it. I found a new 2022 TW in Denver. They did not even have it in their possession yet, I bought it while it was still on the truck shipping it. I live in southern Idaho, so I made a little road trip. The only aftermarket thing on the bike when I bought it, was a battery charge indicator. It is also a 12 volt power tap. It has a flashing green LED if the battery is ok. It starts to flash an orange LED if the battery needs charging, and you can charge it right through the power tap.
    I started riding dirt\duel sport bikes in 1967. I love this little bike. It goes anywhere I need to go. Will it climb long steep hills? NO, it won't. Do I need to climb long steep hills? NO I don't. Some of the things that I have done to my bike are,; better foot pegs, a rear rack, a better tool kit, O-Ring chain, a Ricochet skit plate, 2 handlebar risers, (I am 6'3"), hand/lever guards, folding shift lever, home-made hand grips, and, I am in the process of putting a rear disc brake on it. I have some banjo bolts with bleeders coming today. I will use them to bleed the brakes. It is almost impossible to do that without them. I am also replacing the brake pads with sintered brass ones.
    The rear brake is the only issue that I had with the design of the bike. I love the simplicity of a carb vs electronic fuel injection. I do use Non Ethanol fuel, just like I do with all of my other carb engines. I would like to take, whoever decided to put Ethanol in our gasoline, and beat him with a bat until I was tired.
    When I was younger, I would ride my 86 XT 600 everywhere. I loved the power and the suspension, but with age (thank goodness) comes wisdom. This little 200 is all I need. It is far more capable than the rider. LOL Other than a few little jaunts to town and the hills around here, I do not need to ride it for long distances on the pavement. I went on a 120 mile ride yesterday, with 35 miles being rugged and the rest not. Next time I will trailer it to the rugged mountains, and then enjoy a nice relaxing ride home in my pickup, or my T Bucket. Both have hitches. I can see that with a 46 tooth rear it is nicer on the pavement, but I did not get it to ride on the pavement. The places that I still like to go are quite rugged, so I like the low gearing.
    I like your channel.

    • @BuilderofRat

      @User39. I installed the highest handlebar riser that I could find, and I wanted more, so I added another riser to the first riser. I can't go any higher because of the length of the cables and front brake hose, but it is ok with the 2 risers.
      I am impatiently waiting for spring so that I can ride it some more. It is snowing today here in Idaho. Thanks for reading my little novel.
      I did install the bleeder banjo bolts, and was able to bleed the rear brake. They work soooooo much better than the drum brakes.
      A little story, I was riding up a difficult road, and got out of shape and the bike went over backwards. My leg was under the bike, and from the position that I was in, I could not get into a position to lift the bike up off my leg. I did have my PLB with me, but I did not want to bring out search and rescue if I could help it. Thank goodness I wore my slip-on mini-boots that day, I was able to pull my foot out of my boot and get my leg out from under the bike. Also thank goodness that I was a ways up the hill, because the bike was definitely flooded. I went probably 100 yards with the engine turning over going down the hill before it started up. Ah, the perks of riding alone.

    TW200s don’t last long at any of the dealerships near me. I was lucky enough to walk up on a ‘21 model late in 2020 and I bought it on the spot. I love it! I don’t know that I would ever sell it. Congrats on yours!

    • @hurt1704
      @hurt1704  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! I had never seen one on a dealer floor until I actively started looking for one. From what I seen, there are only about 5 or 6 on a show room at a time across the u.s. I was watching cycle trader and yamaha motorcycles.com dealer inventory and it shows the whole u.s. pretty wild

    • @bultacowally
      @bultacowally ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't last long because Yamaha has backed way off on production and dealers just don't get them for stock. They have been a hard sell for quite a while. 3 or 4 years ago the Dealer near me had a couple leftover 2016's in the showroom they could not give away. I was looking at the XT 250 and the salesman almost begged me to buy the TW instead. I was told they would not order TW's anymore for stock unless some one ordered one because they were hard to sell. Then the Covid thing literally stopped production of low volume low profit bikes to focus on the money makers. The young generations tend to make things "Must haves" for short periods of time for status reasons more than anything. And for a couple years all the young motorheads had to have one so yes they were hard to get but only because Yamaha didn't build many. Another "must have" hot seller the young adult dirt bikers needed in their garages were those junk ass Coleman mini bikes. They sold a shitload of those too along with hundreds of performance parts to make them go 5 MPH faster. Another status toy. I bought a 2022 XT finally for $150 below MSRP last year. I first inquired about a TW and the salesman who was also part owner of the dealer told me not to buy the TW and the XT was a way better bike for only $400 more. Ordered one and had it in 3 months. Now I see there are probably a dozen or more used TW's for sale on FB Marketplace...many with less than 1000 miles on them. Those are the guys that had to have one because it was status and not so anymore. Finding out how boring and limited they were on the streets and not being off roaders they got boring fast. Not saying the TW's are bad scooters but they are farm bikes and quite slow and limited. And I say the fad is over so a new TW should be obtainable now but as I said there are a lot of low milage used ones for sale now and prices are getting reasonable because of that.

I don’t know why they don’t make more of these they’re always sold out and very hard to find, and as well as they sell they could put a little bit of effort into it, they could offer color options and different features like they do on other bikes but their sales numbers aren’t what they could be but not because there’s a lack of customers, they can’t keep the things in stock, you got very lucky. They’re awesome little bikes even if you’re used to driving bigger bikes or performance off-road stuff these are still incredibly fun life and or just a great all-around multipurpose bike that does everything fairly well he just does it slower. 😂 I wish they would put a little more effort into it in my manufacturing and options. I would love to see a version with a 300 or 350 cc motor in it. But even without updating it it’s pretty awesome as it is. I’ve got three or four bikes that even since the 80s always come up in my top few if I could have five bikes three or four of them are always in there and the TW is definitely one of them

    I'm in the market for the same bike, or the MT03. Is the dealer mark up still high? May I ask what I should be expecting to pay out the door. The fees seem infinite right now. Thanks!

    • @hurt1704
      @hurt1704  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I paid 900 in fees for freight, title, fees etc. unfortunately most will have this and if you don’t pay it, someone else will. I did shop around and got it OTD the for $5800 which is still high, but I wasn’t going to let a few hundred bucks keep me from one for a year or more

      $5700 otd is what I walked away paying, but I had to drive 6 hours for that. That’s the cheapest I could find as most were at $6100 or up.

      It is a fun little machine that will go anywhere you point it. It does, but you’re better off mounting actual racks from aftermarket companies if you really want to haul some cargo
