    I'm going on a road trip next week and have been watching videos about packing. Your three way comparison was much more helpful than people just going on about their own favorite method. I've decided to go with packing cubes simply because it is easier to stay organized with cubes. Thank you for making this high quality video. Loved your child and dog co-stars.

      Packing cubes are the best. I’ve been using them for years since I discovered them. They’re also useful to place your clothes in hotel drawers so they are protected from the drawers themselves (God knows if they’re clean…🤣).

    For the rolling method, you probably want to start by folding them into the same rectangle as the Konmari. If they're folded too tall before you roll them, they just take up more space and come out wrinklier.

    I use packing cubes for organization. For shirts, pants and underwear, I utilize the Konmari method. For socks, I use the Ranger roll method (keeps them compact and you can place them in shoes and other tight spaces.).

    Nice video. With the current chaos at airports around the world, clever packing can make the difference between being able to fit everything into a carry on versus a checked bag which you might very well never see again.

    • @lap8329
      @lap8329 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeashMechanic In my fairly extensive experience, they seldom empty many packing cubes. Ones that appear to only hold clothes get a poke and a squish, that’s it. Electronics and medication sometimes attract interest, but if all electronics are together in one cube, and meds in another, it isn’t a big deal to repack just those. I smile sweetly and ask them to be patient, as they won’t fit back in the case unless they are packed properly. Then I methodically get them properly repacked and bag closed before moving on.

    It seems I've been doing a combo of the Konmari and rolling methods when I pack. Last October, I flew to London where I stayed for six months. I took two 29" suitcases, a 19" carry-on, and a "personal item" which was a laptop bag. I noticed many Londoners do not wear patterned shirts, so I won't be taking those this October. My plan is to only take one 29", the carry-on, and the laptop bag. The coats will take up the most space. Thanks for the video. Very informative.

    I do roll but one fold less than u do so it’s longer but thinner. So it’s takes more space Lengthwise u can pack more on on top. And it less wrinkle. To me the roll is the most effective but now I’m thinking the cubes together with the roll could work better in separation to different items. Thanks.

    Thank you for your testing and explanations. Your conclusions will help me for my next trips.
    In fact, what you said as regards to either less wrinkles using the Konmari system or saving space through rolling can be both useful depending on the kind of trip. I live in Madrid, so I have lots of cities to visit within reach of a 2-3 hours flight. For Ryanair, Easyjet, and other low cost airlines we really need to save space as per onboard luggage allowance. Cheers and thank you again! 👏🏻👏🏻😎✈🎒

      @@LimitlessLauren I recently saw a story about someone using the vacuum bag method for their carry on. Needless to say of course they were searched by TSA and all the bags were opened. After that they couldn't get their items to fit back into their suitcase! I assume the same could happen with your checked luggage. FYI...I usually use the rolling method except for a few items that i don't want to be wrinkled.

    Actually, the point of rolling is to have almost no wrinkles. Put the most wrinkle prone items on the outside of the roll and roll a couple or 3 things together. You roll them flatter and in longer rolls. I lay them between the bars on the bottom of the suitcase. It saves a ton of space to roll and I have almost no wrinkles.

      @@LimitlessLauren this is what I came here to say too… long skinny rolls will leave virtually no wrinkles. I just spent 8 weeks working away from home, and only one shirt wrinkled badly due to the type of fabric, and it does that whether it’s folded or rolled.

    But.....if we are talking about getting as much in a suitcase as we can, we're probably also pushing the limit on weight allowance, and cubes weigh something. Use a bunch and they must add up to a pound. But the idea is compression, whether folding, rolling or using those cubes. Air pockets equals wasted space. I've done my own experimenting and as I guessed before, none of it matters! The same amount goes in each way if you do each one with maximum compression and minimum wasted. Stack it high, sit on it to close it.......compression!

    I've tried the rolling method and my clothes came out of the suitcase looking like I'd slept in them for a week. Unfortunately, irons aren't readily available anymore in Europe, so I ended up finding a laundry, lightly washing and drying to get the wrinkles out.

    • @wplains
      @wplains 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bought a small steamer device which is portable and takes the wrinkles right out. However, I personally only use packing cubes. I stack my clothes inside (don’t roll or use the Kon Mari method) and they come out fine.

  • @TinaJackson
    @TinaJackson 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When packing using the KonMari method, instead of lining them up the length of the suitcase, try lining them up width wise. I also will usually turn them so the bottom of the fold is on the bottom (wheel side) of the suitcase. So they’d be standing up on the bottom of the suitcase if the suitcase was upright. (I tried to explain as best I could) 😝

    If i was to roll i would not do that last fold. I fold pant legs on top, shirts in half, you can roll an outfit together too for extra convenience. Everyone has their thing. Packing cubes are good just to reduce the possible nightmares that can happen with the TSA or liquids, etc..
