I thought it had some interesting things to say and an interesting way to say them and it never outstayed its welcome. It's amazing how few books can claim that.
100%. I found the very first chapter confusing for some reason, but after that it was as tight as an Olympic diver's Speedos. Really impressive plotting building to an inevitable climax. Excellent stuff.
Like you, I also found Knife very lucid and moving. I will admit, I found the constant references at the beginning to his then relatively new relationship with his current wife a bit much, but overall, I thought it was a really impactful piece of writing.
i loved the emperor of all maladies...i had it awhile with out reading it for fear of cancer and when i finally read it i found myself less terrified by cancer.
so happy to hear you've read kenneth fearing. hope you consider checking out clark gifford's body next!
I will keep an eye out for it. Thanks!
Love your reading. Shabbat shalom.
Thanks Andi! Shavua tov.
Enjoyed you reviews. I didn’t like Orbital very much, but that’s not unusual.

I love The Big Clock. One of the best Noirs I’ve read.

The simple fact of writing it is his victory. That we get to read it is a victory for all of us.
I liked Obital too, I think you might like Held, also on the Booker list.
Hmm... I'm not sure. I'll take another look when it comes out in paperback.
Though two entirely different books, Knife, and Tampa, by Alissa Nutting, have two of the best cover designs I can recall.
That cover to Tampa still haunts me!

100% It's a book filled with hope and celebration of life.
A Rushdie spotlight from you is imminent, I'm sure.
I think I did one of those once. I have to go back and check.
