Thank you so much for your teachings! It’s the most subtle movements in the animal that we miss! Love how you point each and every one out! You have to teach a mule how a horse Should be treated. Bravo!!

Again thank you for this series. I loved seeing Bella under saddle and outside the round pen.
What kind of bit will she progress too?

Pat would do a lot of backing in the Missing Link Snaffle and work on increasing the suppleness of her neck. After that, he would transition to an ‘S’ shank western bit. Remember, this mule was 9 years old when we shot this video so he would move right along with her.

Pat & Deb Puckett thank you. I do remember that she had been in a pack saddle prior to this. Back in the 90’s I worked as a camp jack in Montana. One morning I needed to give up my saddle horse for a Guest. I decided to ride what I referred to has the head pack mule. I used a halter that day. There was no time to round pen to train on him. Just hit the trail. He did quite well. I tried a mechanical hack the next day. I didn’t like the way it fit him, returned to just the rope halter. Since I didn’t own the mule. I wasn’t able to advance him to a bit. I rode them several more time over the next 10 years. I love them.

I really like all 3 of the Bella segments. Cain't help but remark about the Lady chunking rocks at the dog to get rid of it, as I am so used to seeing Pearl circle the pens at your place.
Wonder if she just don't like dogs or she thinks the dog is going to interfere with Mr Pat.

Not sure if this was the case here or not but a lot of mules are dog killers and you keep dogs away for their own safety. Especially dogs used to horses who think it's OK to just go hang out in a corral with the horses. They don't get that a mule or donkey is really different and it can cost them their life quicker than you can get them out of the situation.

Actually the lady was throwing rocks at the dogs on the other side of the fence because they had gotten in the habit of “fence fighting” with her dogs. That was the reason for the rock throwing. No dogs were harmed 😆

She was only throwing rocks. Not the hi velocity type

Thank you. I didn't have a problem with her running them off.

@@MrSanteeclaus That's how I knew it wasn't filmed in Montana. There was a dog being a nuisance and no sound of rifle fire.

I've noticed a lot of UK riders/ trainers use ALOT of verbal cues...whoa, trot, canter, gallop...

Yes Jean, and not just the English 🙄😆🤔Yah well well and good, um, lively walk into a nice lope back to a relaxed walk then a jog then into a nice extended trot.....how's that gonna be conveyed verbally? Walk canter walk trot oh and trot....😂 AIDS shouldn't include your voice cos it really does mean naff all to the horse. Humans - anthropomorphising at its silliest.
