As someone who lives in a very windy city: I feel this. Deeply. And thank you for highlighting this experience for your viewers. Foriegn travel isn't always sunshine and rainbows, and you have done a great job showing how to handle it and what to do.
That damn wind 🥲 cheers Marc! We always have a lot of hiccups on the road, and we're always going to be honest about it! Hopefully it makes for good entertainment 🫠
I very much appreciate you telling the more sombre history of the place you've visited. So often the history of areas is glossed over in travel vlogs, as the creators don't want to dampen the mood and I feel that the history of a place, whether good or bad, adds to the adventure.
Oh, I feel for you so badly. If it's any consolation, three hours is pretty good. I was at a restaurant with a friend in Rwanda a few years ago. He'd parked up and we were just eating chips outside and chatting, then this guy (who later turned out to be drunk) pulled into the car park and very slowly - at walking pace - proceeded to roll into the back of our car. It didn't do much damage, just cracked a back light worth about $10, but we had to have an entire community meeting involving 40 people (everyone in the restaurant and everyone walking by) and we were there for almost five hours! People were seriously debating whose fault it was - we were stationary! We weren't even in the car! And we just said, 'cover the price of the light, no big deal,' but the head of the community meeting wouldn't let us leave until we'd all reached a unanimous decision over who was to blame. Even the guy who drove into us said 'yes, I'll pay, no problem,' and still the self-appointed community chairperson kept going. Honestly thought I was going to have to sleep there. Sounds like you just got a bit of a xenophobe who saw the opportunity for a new paint job. It's a real shame about the deposit but hope you can put it out of your mind, people like that aren't worth spending your holiday thinking about.
I kind of giggling at a town meeting over a light; I mean the guy could just agree to get it fixed/pay the money and be done with it. I feel like that was the town's entertainment for the month or something.
@coffeegirl18 Absolutely 😄 I had a similar incident a few years earlier where someone turned the house next door into a nightclub and no one on the street could get any sleep. Same scenario. It took over four months of complaining to the council, resulting in a community meeting involving representatives from the entire neighbourhood. I had to be present but it was entirely in Kinyarwanda with no interpreter. Neither I nor the club owner spoke enough Kinyarwanda to follow along. Thankfully, my neighbour came along to back me up and he's well respected. Things are in transition, the procedures technically exist (insurance, noise department, city hall) but local community leaders still have a lot of authority and like to exercise it. Usually things get resolved well in the end, but that end can be a long time coming.
been waiting for this since sharla uploaded her vid :edit after finishing the vid. christ that sounds like a real headache i'm sorry you had to deal with something like that hope that everything ends up fine
Just a quick note to anyone traveling in Japan with/in a vehicle - if you hit anything, no matter how small or minor, you MUST call the police. You will actually get in more trouble for not calling them than the incident itself, regardless of the size or extent of the issue.
In all seriousness though, I think she just looked at the van and recognised you're from UK and Canada and assumed you had money so tried it on :/ shitty
I had this happen to me when I was returning from the supermarket, just about to go on a road trip with my family. As I went to open the door, a gust of wind blew the door out of my hand and it banged against the car next to me. This guy got out of the car, and just started yelling at me, saying I trashed his car. But there was no marks. He couldn't even tell me where the door had hit, because there were no marks. My baby was crying, and he just kept yelling at me, so I drove off. People like that need to chill
The melon pan looks like Pan Dulce or conchas. Top is sugary, and bread is usually soft and tasty, but not sugary. They come in several colors chocolate, yellow, pink, and white.
Dang man, Sharla has Star power. Putting her name in the title nets 13x-30x the views. That's so insane. You guys videos are so good that you'll get to those numbers on your own within the next year. And then you'll be the ones on other peoples channels pulling in views for them! 😃👍🏻
I lived in northern Japan from 2000 to 2004. I drove a government car and I worked for the city, my boss was the mayor. One night before the big autumn festival, I got broadsided by a drunk driver. Some housewife who had a massive bottle of sake on the front seat and she was drinking it while she was driving. The car wasn’t totaled, but it was significantly damaged. Of course, she got out and started yelling and all of this stuff, but I spoke really good Japanese by that time, and I had also been in the hospital for six months about a year and before that happened so as soon as she started yelling at me, I calmly explained to her everything about her being drunk and me doing nothing wrong, and she ran the stop sign and slammed into me, and then I started explaining all the injuries that she could possibly have caused somebody if she had been going faster and that she was irresponsible and I just kept going and going and going in Japanese. She could barely stand up and she started stumbling a little bit perplexed as to why I was able to explain all of the things that she could have done to me because she was drunk and thankfully she didn’t so I’d like to go home and please give me your insurance information for hitting me. She then sobered up a little and start yelling again. My supervisor showed up, gave her his business card, and she realized that she was dealing with City Hall. The police showed up, they did thorough notes and a couple weeks later the car was fixed. But she was yelling at me that it was all my fault, and that I shouldn’t be there and gaijin this and that.
Oh jeez, how could she blame you 😂 we've had a few dodgy moments with people not stopping for stop signs and almost hitting us. Lucky you didn't get badly injured!
Newly subscribed to you guys and absolutely love the content! Gutted about the deposit hopefully all gets sorted out soon! We're currently in Japan for 6 weeks on our first visit here and love getting travel tips from you guys!
the melon bread in Korea that looks almost exactly the same has a strong melon (kinda like cantaloupe) flavor to it, but I've never seen it factory made, only ever bought it bakeries there
So sorry this happen, I hope you get your deposit back and that you can continue your travels in Japan it is so unfortunate that the woman was so rude to you and Sharla over such a small barely noticeable scratch and you were not able to enjoy the sunset. Hope the rest of your travels go smoothly.
shiii....sh... This happened to me once as well, living in a windy city - at least it was in my home country. The dude was really "upset" to say it nice. The police was called, the mark on his door was compared, but the police were the MVPs telling that dude, that the rust in that particular mark couldn't appear during the time we waited for them to arrive (same thing I told that guy). Dude was charged 20 € for false alarm and the police had a loooong talk with him about how he was lucky they didn't charge him with insurance fraud. I stood there with a wide grin on my face for the whole time enjoying it to the last bit (got in trouble a little for being late for work, but you don't walk away from a performance like that). I hope you get the deposit back once it gets resolved, what a shi**y situation tho... good luck and all the best m8s
It seemed, in the video, that Sharla was being blamed for the cops being called. “It was fine until Sharla came out”. Did you think the cops wouldn’t have been called if Sharla hadn’t come out? That was my impression based on what you were saying. - I’m hoping it all worked out in the end. You guys have great adventures. Fun to watch. 😊👍🏻 Safe travels.
They probably would've been called, but this woman riled up more I think out of embarrassment when Sharla came out. Her husband was trying to move his wife on and tell her not to worry but she got a bee in her bonnet haha. Our £2,000 deposit was lost over it, i would've been happy to pay for repairs but god knows how it cost 2k. The irony is a week later I woke up to someone hitting our van with their car door, before I could get out and say anything they drove off, and the mark they left was significantly bigger! Hope it was entertaining at least! Thanks for watching 💖
Idk if this will make you feel better, but once while driving through the Midwest US, also on a very windy day, a dumpster hit our van. That's right, the dumpster hit US. It must've been blown into us overnight, bc when we checked out of our hotel in the morning there was this moment of "Hmm, I don't remember parking so close to that OH GOD." Luckily we weren't in the van while it happened, but it left a pretty sizable dent.
I live in Japan the exact same thing happened to me, gust of ind blew the door hit the car next to us ........ tiny little mark ......... my japanese wife was so upset she called the police......hahahahaha.... two coppers turn up on their mopeds........ thankfully the owner came back looked at it .............. got a rag from his boot and wiped it off no problem...........I thanked him with lots of bows and everyone happy............this is normal behavior here to call the police.................no one has ever shouted at me though.
Awh haha at least it rubbed off! Also I can see why people ring the police here. They're very helpful and friendly in situations like that. Very different to back home 😅
Oh dear god😢😢 This happened to me when I was driving in Italy- a huge gust of wind took the door from me and hit the car next to me in a carpark. Thankfully there was no damage because I wouldn't know where to begin with that😅 I really hope everything with the insurance works out and you get your money back!
Japan just has different standards about respecting other people's stuff. A small door ding in the parking lot is just part of life for us Americans as well, but damaging someone else's property (regardless of how slight the damage is) can be a big deal for Japanese. When foreigners think Japanese are blowing the situation out of proportion, it just reinforces their stereotypes of foreigners and aggravates them more.
I used to live in Germany and had a spookily similar experience with a woman in a supermarket car park, absolutely flipped her lid when i wiped the little paint mark off her car, luckily, as she threatened to call the police she accepted a 200 euro payment, then smirked at me and drove off…….
Ugh, I've had the wind yank the door out of my hand and smack an occupied vehicle. Did more to mine than theirs but luckily she wasn't a jerk about it.
A friend and I hired a campervan in New Zealand and when we arrived it wasn't ready so they told us to find a cabin for the night and they would reimburse us for the cost (up to some maximum cost I can't remember what it was) and then brought the campervan to us. On the second last day of our trip I misjudged on a tight turn getting out of a carpark and put a significant gouge in the side of the camper :( when we returned it and I told the staff member what I had done he said "Well we owe you for that first night in the cabin so we'll call it even then, eh?".
Well I’ve been binging your content all day and have decided I love you- SO when you guys finally decide to do the Pacific Coast Highway starting in California, you have a place to stay at and take off from right at the start of the highway in Dana Point! I’ve got an extra room on the beach here and am 35 mins from the airport 😂❤ Safe travels! 😊
You got lucky with the door just bumping the other car, I had the whole door blow the wrong way and break the hinges 😅 Hopefully the damage won't take the whole deposit 🫂 My first thought was maybe she recognized Sharla and thought she could get some money out of it 🤔
Oh my goodness 😅 they definitely would've kept the deposit for that hahaha. Hoping to get something back but it's looking unlikely at the moment. We'll see I guess!
Oh no! That’s terrible (of the lady!) to waste so much money and time on such the smallest of marks… at least the police were friendly and good. I hope it gets sorted quickly and the deposit doesn’t get affected.
Why be upset? This is why we have car insurance in the US. Accidents/mistakes happen. However, it was very Japanese to steer clear of Mercedes-Benzes in Japan when I lived there. They're very popular with a certain group that I would rather avoid.
*brings out melon pan* Sharla: "I actually don't like it. It's not horrible. I wouldn't choose to eat it. It's very sweet." Me: both times I went to Japan and spent a month at a time there, I had it for breakfast every time. With my milk tea. 😂 It's my go to breakfast. I always like to start my day with something sweet. And I was just talking to my family about going to visit my cousin in Japan and how I'm excited just for the melon pan 😂
Bee in her bonnet? Sounds like it was more like a Japanese Hornet. I can get the thing about some Japanese people just hating on foreigners (glad she was the only trouble-maker), but what about Sharla specifically? (especially since Emma and Sharla look like siblings) Was it the accent? English/British = ok, US/Canadian = call the cops!
I stayed in the van until the police arrived, so I never came face to face with her. I could just hear her screaming from inside the van. I came out when the police arrived but as soon as they showed up she vanished into the back of her mercedes to watch TV for the whole 3 hours while the husband dealt with it all 🙃
I feel for ya . I hope it all came to nothing and you got your deposit back .I hope this will not mar your Japan experience for you guys. Thank for letting us know. I was wondering why you guys got police contact while sight touring.
Hopefully we'll find out soon! Thank you 💖 quite anticlimactic really, for 3 hours if police time you'd have thought something serious had happened 😂 Everything else has been amazing though, we've been lucky that that's the only hiccup in 2 months!
I think that lady probably just had a bee in her bonnet like you said. I think you had a runin with the Japanese version of a Karen. Happy the police and her hubby were friendly.
Except in this case, because these two woman look like they're sisters. I've been watching Sharla for a Decade, and even I got confused...you're not the woman who called the police, are you!?!? 😂
I had this happen to me once on my M3, wind caught a little old Ladies door and whacked into the side of it, I just got out made sure it was alright and she was alright and let her go as it was a mark that would polish out and she said sorry, that Woman was a total turd and should've been fined for wasting police time, fingers crossed it didn't dampen things too much.
Ah no, it seems to happen a lot! A week after this we woke up to someone hitting our car really hard with their door and they drove straight off before I could even get out. And our car was way more scratched than this woman's car. I couldn't imagine ringing the police though 😂 luckily it was our only bad encounter in 3 months there, definitely didn't dampen the trip much. Though losing 2 grand over it certainly sucked...
Oh my lanta... I live in Tennessee and have dealt with a similar situation. Wish the lady just let it go... respectfully mind her own business. Things get dinged up over a period of time, especially while it's outside.
I'm sorry to hear the story...Sometimes (Japanese) people think that's all your fault even if it was wind which doesn't make any sense. My friend got sued by a BMW owner for breaking its side mirror by accident. lmao
Now I understand what Sharla ment about the lady. Had you not circled where the "scratch" was, I wouldn't have even seen it. It's barely visible. And the fact that lady blew things way out of proportion getting the police involved and ruining the remainder of your trip. Smh. Still, thank you both and Sharla too for sharing your trip with us in your vlogs.
Sharla was an angel and communicated for us 😅 they didn't speak English but had translation devices, they were good but it would've taken a load longer without Sharla!
Sadly, there are a lot of Japanese people (mostly older people) who are not fond of foreigners. I’m half Japanese and I still get hate. I get called “ainoko”, which isn’t exactly a nice way to call a mix person. 😅 But just know majority of Japanese people are quite friendly and understanding! All they really want is peace. So thank goodness for that husband and the police.
As someone who lives in a very windy city: I feel this. Deeply.
And thank you for highlighting this experience for your viewers. Foriegn travel isn't always sunshine and rainbows, and you have done a great job showing how to handle it and what to do.

Sometimes you will run into people that just really hate non Japanese people out of prejudice. At least the husband and police were nice to you.
Clearly racist and Japanese women are the worst.

Oh wow, what a story! Our experience sounds like a walk in the park in comparison 🥲 Exactly, definitely not going to let it ruin our trip! ☺️

been waiting for this since sharla uploaded her vid :edit after finishing the vid. christ that sounds like a real headache i'm sorry you had to deal with something like that hope that everything ends up fine
Sorry for the wait! 😂 Thanks, It sucks but we won't let it get it the way of enjoying our trip! 💖
How can you tell that there is little crime in Japan? Because the police spent 2 hours “investigating” a door ding 😂
Right! Police won’t even come to a minor thing like that where I live unless folks start fighting 😂
“Don’t worry you’re not going to prison.” 😂WHAT
I am so sorry, that sounds terrible. That lady made such a big deal about nothing.
What a great day in Matsushima😬😂
Good thing they had someone good with Japanese. Couldn't imagine the stress trying to translate everything via Google Translate.
The perfect day out 🥲😂
ive just put this on why were the police called
well he was to blame he really should have unbuckled his seat belt before opening the door i have no symmpathy for him sharma
he should be more careful in future sharma

That woman clearly had a phobia of friendly adorable blonde women and who can blame her. We all have it.
😂😂
Does Sharla look like the rock secretly is it all camera illusions , make up and blonde wigs
Bahahah right? What did Sharla say to the woman?! Haha
In all seriousness though, I think she just looked at the van and recognised you're from UK and Canada and assumed you had money so tried it on :/ shitty
😂
amazing quality :) I am glad I subbed. More Chris-like content 😂❤ jk jk, your individuality pour out ( too ). 😂🎉

I would check the credit card you used to secure the rental. Sometimes, there is primary or secondary coverage, at least in the US. Good luck!

Good point. I have extra travel related insurance on mine.
A donation of what the door ding is truly worth.

That gift shop was fancy! It looks like the inside of an LA mansion!
Hands down the fanciest one I've been in here!
That's such a sucky experience! I really hope you get your deposit money back! Here's a fiver to lift the mood in the meantime xx
Thanks so much! 🥰🤞

Will be doing that from now on haha, thank you!!
Sorry to hear about your deposit! I hope you can make the rest of your trip work somehow anyway 🤞
nice to see this from this channel's perspective
Thanks!
Congrats on 5k subs! 🎉😊

Isn't most of the stuff in most of the bakeries in Korea factory-made (TLJ, PB etc)?
Yo that drone footage tho 👌
I ordered Chris & Sharla from that app Wish & when the box arrived it was Dominic & Emma!!
What a bunch of hardened criminals! Hope everything is resolved quickly and you get your deposit back.🤞
Haha Thankyou! 💖
Absolutely! They are themselves criminals!
Maybe you made the news: “Two Brits and a Canadian rampage through Japanese car park.”
Sharla does look REALLY like your sister. The similarity is freaky. 😅

Awh thanks! Everything else has been fantastic, 2 months in and we're lucky that's been the only hiccup! ☺️
There's a great melon pan place in Nara that does different flavors. Would recommend if you're ever in that area.
yes! you should try a fresh melon pan with soft serve icecream, i think we had it in osaka or was it kyoto in 2019, yum! xjas
We've gotta find some!
I worked at Starbucks the matcha goes well with lots of things like chai and strawberry purée
Very nice video. 💙❤️❤️🫶🫶🫶 so Sorry to hear. Thank goodness it was a lil smudge. ☺️☺️☺️ Take care and enjoy your adventures.
Thankyou 💖
Sorry that happened to you all, but I'm enjoying the channel so far. Looking forward to more videos.
You should of showed them Sharla's snake tattoo and said that she's apart of the Yakuza 😁, they might of backed off.
Nooo why didn't we think of that 😂😂
Lol

Oh wow haha I bet it felt good watching them get fined, that's hilarious 😅 Thankyou!
@@AlwaysAway the talk he received was worth more than the 20€ - the lowest fine they could charge. It felt like a kindergartener being scolded :)
Does anyone know if there’s a Japanese equivalent to a Karen?
No idea but there are Japanese women called Karen!
Karens are universal. Like music.
See Arghgarry chanel he deals w tards often 😂
I love Sendai, and Matsushima very beautiful.
I imagine some boss music started playing when Sharla came out and the woman got scared and thought they needed to call the police for back up.
Love this 😂

What was the name of the starbucks drink? I want to try but couldnt catch what they ordered!
It's a matcha frappe with a double shot of espresso in it!

I ate so many melonpans the first time I came to Japan and was obsessed with them…
I still need to find a fresh one with cream before we leave!
I wrote this half way through the video, now finished it. So sorry about what happened to you guys. Very frustrating. Love the channel!
@@thejailorsjester5016 Thank you! 💖
Awh haha nice reaction 😂
Well I’ve been binging your content all day and have decided I love you- SO when you guys finally decide to do the Pacific Coast Highway starting in California, you have a place to stay at and take off from right at the start of the highway in Dana Point!
I’ve got an extra room on the beach here and am 35 mins from the airport 😂❤
Safe travels! 😊
Awh Thankyou!! That sounds perfect 😂💖
Your video style really reminds me of Chris! And you guys look really alike too haha
He's been a good mentor 😅
You got lucky with the door just bumping the other car, I had the whole door blow the wrong way and break the hinges 😅
Hopefully the damage won't take the whole deposit 🫂
My first thought was maybe she recognized Sharla and thought she could get some money out of it 🤔
Oh my goodness 😅 they definitely would've kept the deposit for that hahaha. Hoping to get something back but it's looking unlikely at the moment. We'll see I guess!
Hadn’t thought of that, maybe she did!!!
For bail money! so that you can make the “what it’s like inside a Japanese prison” video! Imagine the views! Looking forward to it, lol.
Thank you so much! That's so kind of you!! Haha I've got the camera at the ready 😂
You look like this famous Japan vlogger Abroad in a Pan
Shit happens, eh? That Sendai mug is kinda poppin' tho
Exactly. And hell yeah, love that mug!
Oh no! That’s terrible (of the lady!) to waste so much money and time on such the smallest of marks… at least the police were friendly and good. I hope it gets sorted quickly and the deposit doesn’t get affected.
I'm sorry that this unfortunate event took place on your trip and that your deposit of $2000 was taken. hope that you still have a great time in japan
Why be upset? This is why we have car insurance in the US. Accidents/mistakes happen.
However, it was very Japanese to steer clear of Mercedes-Benzes in Japan when I lived there. They're very popular with a certain group that I would rather avoid.
Where I live we just rub the mark off and say have a good day. that lady wanted to project her bad day/week onto others. Stay positive!
Melon pan is a type bread with a cookie crust
*brings out melon pan*
Sharla: "I actually don't like it. It's not horrible. I wouldn't choose to eat it. It's very sweet."
Me: both times I went to Japan and spent a month at a time there, I had it for breakfast every time. With my milk tea. 😂 It's my go to breakfast. I always like to start my day with something sweet. And I was just talking to my family about going to visit my cousin in Japan and how I'm excited just for the melon pan 😂
team Miyagi mascot hehe
Yess! 😄✨
I came out when the police arrived but as soon as they showed up she vanished into the back of her mercedes to watch TV for the whole 3 hours while the husband dealt with it all 🙃
why does Sharla have a british accent
😮
😢sorry guys
Should have videoed the whole interaction...
I would've but I didn't want to anger the police 😅
You and your sister look a lot alike!
She's not my actual sister 😅
These comments are going to get old real quick 🤣🤣 Not every white girl with blond streaks look alike 🤣🤣🤣
@@AlwaysAway
doh !!
whoops !!
@@NessaGhouliful
apparently some do though.
Except in this case, because these two woman look like they're sisters. I've been watching Sharla for a Decade, and even I got confused...you're not the woman who called the police, are you!?!? 😂
wow that's unfortunate and depressing :-/ sorry to hear that
I had that happen once. I'm so sorry.
Wow that's ridiculous. Here in DC people hit my car literally all the time. You're lucky if they leave a note. 😅
Haha same in Kent 🥲
Wow, that's horrendous. :(
They probably got the wrong idea after watching Guy Ritchie’s Snatch
Oh my lanta... I live in Tennessee and have dealt with a similar situation. Wish the lady just let it go... respectfully mind her own business. Things get dinged up over a period of time, especially while it's outside.
I'm sorry to hear the story...Sometimes (Japanese) people think that's all your fault even if it was wind which doesn't make any sense. My friend got sued by a BMW owner for breaking its side mirror by accident. lmao
🌸🌻
💖
Now I understand what Sharla ment about the lady. Had you not circled where the "scratch" was, I wouldn't have even seen it. It's barely visible. And the fact that lady blew things way out of proportion getting the police involved and ruining the remainder of your trip. Smh. Still, thank you both and Sharla too for sharing your trip with us in your vlogs.
Miyagi mascot is a pass for me. He's a CANNIBAL!
Like, keep going
Did the police know English or did Sharla have to interpret for y’all? I’m sorry you lost your deposit 😢
Sharla was an angel and communicated for us 😅 they didn't speak English but had translation devices, they were good but it would've taken a load longer without Sharla!
Oh no I feel so sorry for you what a stupidly unneccessary thing to happen
Nooo melon pan is the best!!!
We've gotta find some fresh melon pan!!
@@AlwaysAway oh we loved it all, we lived on the stuff haha! That and melon soda 🤤
so it was all Sharla's fault! lol she's bad juju don't bring her anymore haha jk jk love you Sharla.
Wow, that's bad luck...
