I was his boy soprano soloist for six years - I looked down at him from the choir loft at Temple Beth El of Boro Park on Shabbat. He would look up with a smile of encouragement. One of the greatest Hazzanim - [cantors] we have been fortunate to hear. He was one of my mentors and helped to form the singer I became. I miss him daily and the glory that he brought to the cantorate.
So greatful! I have always longed for seeing photos from Tlomatske Synagogue where my father-in-law was the rabbi’s right hand…. That led them to be massacred because he felt responsible for his fellow citizens. My husband, prepared by his parents, fled alone from Warsaw ghetto as a young kid, crossed forests… as far as the Soviet Union. When he left in 1945, he found nobody from his family out of 357 people. He told me that when Moshe Kussovitzky father came to sing for Kippur (and Rosh Hashana), thousands of Poles (out of whom an antisemite majority, surrounded the synagogue from outside to listen to his singing. He remembered quite well. Thank you for posting these photographs: it means a great lot for me. ❤
