thank you for reminding me that we kiwi's take for granted just how amazing our country is. to see you in so much glee of our environment is just really humbling. thank you brother

You are more than welcome! I am guilty of doing the same with some of the places I have lived. The grass always looks greener on the other side.

So envious that you saw a Tuatara in the wild! That's so cool!

Tiritiri matangi is a hidden gem that people always miss .the tuatara can also shrink its skeletal frame to conserve energy in times of short food supply

Super hidden gem, surprised it is not promoted more. I was lucky to stumble across it during my stay in NZ!

Yes should definitely visit!! My video did not do it any justice. Tuataras as so spectacular, I never thought in my wildest dreams I would see one in the wild! Happy to hear my excitement was contagious!

@@ECO-logyTuatara is already plural, saying ‘tuataras’ is like saying ‘sheeps’. There is no letter S in te reo Māori so none of our native animals with Māori names should be pluralised with an s 😊

You can book to stay overnight on Tiri Tiri Matangi . At least you used to be able to. Fairly basic accommodation. Or you can join the volunteer brigade to do the same. I can’t believe you didn’t see any Takahe. There were so many when I visited but I must admit it was many years ago. Great that you found the Tuatara though.

Not sure if this is of interest but if you are here in summer and do the Cape Brett Hike, there is a fish sanctuary partway along (Deepwater Cove), and really common to see sea lions at the lighthouse dock 😊 not to mention the beaches are beautiful - Oke bay especially.

For future reference, a lot of the gecko species you would encounter in Auckland would be arboreal and best spotted at night doing spotlighting.

Thank you JasonEcologist, I did try some spotlighting on the mainland but have since realized that because of all the invasive species your chances are slim to none :(

Chur bro, nice vid and I actually saw a, well i think it was a little blue penguin, but it was differently a little penguin. I was on a jet boat ride up at whitiangi to Cathedral Cove and saw that, little penguin swimming past, not everyday you see a penguin on a jet boat and first wild penguin i had seen.😊❤❤❤
