This is a very helpful and practical video. Swing rhythm is one of those things that initially sounds easy but is deceptively complicated and requires a lot of work to achieve consistency and the right feel. It is all in the detail. Thank you for making a video that shows that.
Great video Sven thanks! It's very important to be aware of the different styles of swing. I jut realised that I play always the Joscho kind of rhythm style...I will work on the other styles as well as they might work better for particular songs. Cheers!
Your videos are all super helpful. I learned some really cool gypsy chords and turn around from you. A lot of 6's! Anyways, If its not to forward I'd like to request, Blue Bossa or Bossa Dorado. I'm curious about voicings and rhythms you would use.
I had a lot of trouble getting the right sound on the 2-4. It works best for me when I "push"/strum strings on the beat on 1 and 3 and release quickly. Then on 2 and 4, I fret the strings just before I strum and release the moment I strum. That way I get the click-ish sound (perhaps simulating a brush snare?), and the hint of the notes in the chord. That last bit took me months and money (for lessons, picks, whatever) to figure out. Now it's free for anyone who want to share the great music from the hot jazz era :-)
Exactly, Selmer is a brand. actually the most popular ones are Maurice Dupont Eimer guitars Hahl Volkert there a a lot of opportunities. Cheap models for beginners are from Gitane or Cigano ;) Greetz Sven
Thank you. you have a great swing. What's with the piece of paper on the E string on the bridge? Just curious. Is it to dampen it or to prevent early breakage?

Excellent video Sven and the only one of its kind that has clearly conveyed technique. What gauge / type of strings do you use?
Hi, thank you! D'addario Strings.
Thank you. you have a great swing.
What's with the piece of paper on the E string on the bridge? Just curious. Is it to dampen it or to prevent early breakage?
it's meant to raise the string hight ;)
