Arya only fought raman without training. For all his other contestants ,he had intense training.
Usually, after watching a film, I discuss it with my friends, to validate my thoughts about the film, and also to get different perspectives on it. Jaby and Achara are like the best version of how better my friends can get, talking about films. Though with the foreign eye, both give their honest opinions, they put more pov and perspective, they appreciate and value the film, the discuss about the characters and also suggest the counterpart American films, all while trying to not offend anyone and to not get distracted. That's what I love about Jaby and Achara. There are many Tamil critic TH-cam channels, magazines, newspapers, even reaction channels who either bash films regardless of how good they are or just over praise films that are not worthy of. J&A aren't like that. That makes me so happy and proud of you guys. I'll always recommend the channel and mention you at all the times, while we are discussing the films with my friends. Thanks a lot for that guys. You've grown a lot better together with us. ♥
Are u serious they would have given a different review if it was Bollywood movie. Never talk about the art direction of this movie which was great. Jaby talks after winning he should go and hug his wife because that is what happens in rocky and dangal. He is very comparative here kabilan fights for the clan it is his relationship as well. There are many great youtubers who review better than this man. Moreover never spoke anything about the political and other stuffs of the movie.
@@ABKamakodishwaranE They just spoke about the emotions and feelings they went through while watching the movie. They need not have to have a checklist and talk about and appreciate every single thing in the movie. Their reaction was honest. Take it easy dude
@@vaasu5291 Maybe but I watched a lot of their reviews before because it is a big channel but it seemed a bit always critical on tamil language movies but seems a good review for Bollywood. Check with asuran review in this channel whereas check asuran review on other foriegn reviews. Other reviewers seem to connect so well but jaby gives a different review just always praise Bollywood average movies. Just my opinion bro👍👍👍👍but I may be wrong too.👍👍👍👍

In first scene.. Kevin daddy says kabilan as bathroom boxer.. It's a throw away line.. Pretty sure ppl missed it.. He did train on his own but never shown on screen..

I just watched this fantastic movie yesterday....this movie is a reminder to all how a good sports movie is made
the "zh" (ழ் - ɻ - Voiced retroflex approximant) in Tamil is pronounced more like a cross between a L and a R, try saying the letter L without touching the roof of your mouth. there's no equivalent letter in most languages to indicate this sound. the language herself is actually called Tamizh, not Tamil.

19:42, probably you've lost in translation. Though the subtitle was " I'm proud of you". The line aamir khan says "shabash" has a fair distinction in meaning. The way I interpret is " You finally did it daughter, Well done".
Oh. Then it was badly translated. Because it sounded more like, “Now I’m proud to call you my daughter.” As if he wasn’t this whole time

Many People are saying Kabilan Didn't had either prior training or Boxing match before his first main entry.But that is not true.Apart from he learned by watching matches and Daddy guy's help who was a former boxer himself,If you watch carefully there was some dialogues indicate that he has been doing boxing as small time in bathroom of his workplace
S actually kabilan watches all matches practises himself and moreover he was very fascinated about the sport and regarded his coach rangan as a great which other boxers in their clan didnt have. I cant understand they are complaining so much about this movie but gives good opinion about hindi average movies.
Aamir Khan in Dangal says "Shabash" in the end .... Which means "Well done" ... But it was subtitled as "I am proud of you"🤦🏻♂️...

Kabilan belong to lower caste ,so thats why he is hated within his clan itself .the director conveyed it secretly .only some can understand the reference .

I think that was his first main role movie.
Vembuli the antagonist is a true sport in the movie and his intention was never to cheat, he never blinked his eye (the actual villian is thaniga and interprets it to be a blink) and the punch on shoulder was in-fact a allowed punch back then in Madras boxing.
Do watch the movie "Madras" and "Pariyerum Perumal". Madras was directed by Pa. Ranjith and Pariyerum Perumal was produced by him. Both are considered to be one of the best movies to come out from tamil cinema in the last decade or so.

15:15 Achara, Vembuli didnt actually wink at all. Its just that the Thaniga character wanted Kabilan not to win the fight, that he still interrupts the fight despite Vembuli not winking.Thats why Vembuli wants to beat Kabilan later on in the movie, as people call him a cheat for the way the 1st fight ended.

It was his instinct and dna of his father , and he has that passion in himself to fight like real boxer , so he is himself a boxer while outside the ring thinking it as a part of his cell
Clan part is the soul of the movie..clan part makes this movie different..otherwise its just a simple boxing movie.
This movie set a story in 1980s and it was more like mix of tamil and english boxing that may make you think like that. Real boxing culture and the last coack boatsman was true boxer in sarpatta clan
Not sure if you guys are going to read this, but major layered theme of the movie is about casteism, casteism in India is like Racism in US (in the past):
Raman/His Uncle/Kabilan/Coach etc are from the same Boxing Team (Sarpatta). However, you could see Taniga (Raman's Uncle) always had disrespect for Kabilan, if you understand casteism in India (Tamil surroundings specifically) you could catch those Caste undertones, such as:
1) The disgusting look on Taniga's face when Kabilan talked back at Raman's house "Who let this guy in here",
2) "Like's of munirathnam's son shouldn't even talk to us", When Kabilan challenged Raman for the very first time
3) "Kabilan you are getting on horse now, huh?" when Kabilan arrived on horse after the first win beating Dancing Rose (Relatable to when whites saw a Blackman on horse in Django Unchained).
4) When Kabilan replied to that (3), Taniga said "Didn't anyone teach you about Us" (Implying his higher caste status, that the lower shouldn't talk back)
5) "It should either be you or him, but who the hell is this guy" at the photo session,
6) "Come and clean dead animal corpse at my house, i will forgive you" (Cleaning corpse used to low caste job") (During confrontation after the restaurant fight).
7) If you are familiar with the way Tamil people dress, you could easily identify that Taniga is from oppressing Caste (so called self declared higher caste) from his attire and dress and the way their women dress. This is diluted now since everyone is getting economically strong. However, in Tamil cinema, in order to symbolize Oppressing Caste (Self declared higher caste), similar styles of wardrobes are utilized. Get used to these contrasting Wardrobes so that it could be easy for you to identify the theme of any Tamil movie in the future without much guessing.
Most importantly, Achara was asking why would they Strip him naked after beating in the ring during the riots. This is the major symbol in the movie, stripping him naked is the symbolic way of showing him where he belongs, nude without dignity (being the lower caste guy). I believe the same theme appeared in Django Unchained. In the past, whenever there was a collision between the higher and lower caste, the higher caste being the majority with clueless disgust and hatred towards the other, it would either end up with fatality of the lower caste or stripping the lower caste naked to show them where they belong.
Another villain that people easily forget is the coach's son: He was jealous of Kabilan (thanks to his father), he brought kabilan to the downward spiral, he made him a drunkard, get him involved in illegal liquor business, spoiled his everything, made him box Raman at his lowest, so that the world can laugh at him, he even confessed that to his wife in the car, of course he redeemed that at the end. He isn't exactly bad, but we usually have this kind of "friend" who hates to see us grow and wants us to be at their level or lower.
Pa Ranjith is very much inspired from Black Oppressions and Black Uprising in US, be it in sports, documentaries, films, music etc. as you can draw parallels to casteism in India. The movie draws inspiration from Muhammad Ali's works as well. The climax Shot is from Muhammad Ali, Sonny Liston knockout iconic image.
The movie is multi layered, there is much more to be discussed.

I just feel the dad flashback thing...was something that was open to be worked on (matters/doesnt matter). It would have mattered if it was taken from the boxing side. It wouldn't matter as a dad, as he was not the greatest influence by being the goon and also that he died when Kabilan was young.
The director would have been totally ok to make it longer ig.....but there was nothing that could be removed!! Every scene was necessary, self explanatory and deep ig to the point where you know what you're expecting.....
Interesting observations, yes I would have loved to see arya doing underground boxing or practice.... and also the next steps in his life after winning vembuli.. But again its so good that we have to be picky haha

The old society was not about the individual but the side you are in. He didn't call his second coaches name because he was just an individual and not anyone to the society, he is cut off from it.
Most of the people who work in factories and carrying bags of weights, i dont think they need a gym or weight training to be strong. They do what the people who does in a gym like lunges, farmers carry in their day to day work. Just imagine doing these work for 6 days a week for 10 hours. Its way better than strength training. Also as the movie is set in the 70s, there is no access or affordability for junk food like these days. So these ppl eat natural food and only alcohol and tobacco would be the only way to be unhealthy. Which the movie depicts.
