    I worked with a west London club on managing anxiety. I worked with their U17/18s. Sleep was part of this stress management. The young lads really lapped up the advice.

    I remember that Lewandowsky had to go to a sleep therapist where they even discussed the position to prevent injuries. He shoots with his right leg, so he sleeps on the left side for example

      reallistically you should sleep face up, arms extended by your trunk with a small pillow under the head, sleeping on your left side makes no sense if you want to avoid injuries

    In America, some of the NBA and NFL teams actually transport beds between hotels to ensure the players get optimal sleep. It's quite something.

    Oliver Kahn during the World cup 2002 could not sleep before the finals. He got a blunder ball in which ronaldo capitalize and sealed Brasil victory. This is due to him been over stress , over train , and try to be “over focus” rather than naturally.

    Sometimes I wonder, what times the player went to sleep after mid-week matches.
    Kick off at 8PM, match finished at 10PM ... there are post-match interview, Massage, Ice Cold bath, Tweeting and posting on social media after game, Team Talk, drive home, check social media, Change the lamp, take out trash (because your wife been angry you haven't done it 🤣)

    I remember that Essien said he slept something like 12~14 hours in a single day before important matches.

    I'm sure every top manager does this but if anyone listens to ten hag's press conferences recently he has consistently talked about recovery, sleep and food to keep the squad in the best shape possible for a congested run of matches. Obviously more is going on the background but for most teams who play intense football that plays a more important role than a training session sometimes.

    What's strange as well is if you wait 90 minutes after waking before having the 1st coffee, your adenosine receptors will regulate themselves meaning you won't crash after the coffee wears out. The body is weird.

    Quite strange how we demonise sleep in work. Thatcher only had 4 hours sleep seen as a mark of strength for example.
    Shots of MPs leaving houses at 5 in the morning through a sea of reporters. These things a burnt into my mind. I always remember thinking why aren't these people in bed?

    This makes me curious if there's any data showing the most well-rested squads in world football.
    South America would be particularly interesting, considering the presence of regional championship fixtures/regional cup tournaments occurring alongside Libertadores/Sudamericana fixtures and the regular domestic season (sometimes in an apertura/clausura format depending on where you play).

    Hey, Tifo. Thanks for the amazing vids. Could you guys do a vid on why footballers hug when they celebrate? Is it part of their contractual obligation or something like that? I understand sometimes they might be excited but I don't believe it's always the case when they hug. Sometimes it just feels manufactured - like a theatrical production for the cameras.

    You get used to having less sleep though.
    I’ve been getting 4 hours a night for years and my reaction speed averages to 147ms and I’m in my 40’s.
    Maybe it’s more necessary if you’re physically active…
