    I absolutely love your videos. The thing that impresses me so much is the fact that you have your children involved and you’re teaching them how to do things. I’m appalled that most parents don’t teach their children how to do things. My hats off to you, y’all are doing a great job!

      Thank you so much! We try hard to involve them. We usually don't film the screaming and complaining, hoping in the end they will appreciate the lessons learned "on the farm". Thank you for your kind words, and for watching!

    I just want you to know that your channel is one of the most underrated homesteading channels here on youtube! You should have a million+ subscribers -- seriously. You've quickly become my favorite channel and I learn from every single one of your videos (even when you're just giving a tour of a garden or your freezer). I love your attitudes and mindsets, and what you guys are teaching the next generation. My fam loves you guys, even my 2 & 4 year old enjoy the "garden videos" as they call them. Thanks for sharing all that you do and letting us be a little part of your homestead life.♥

    Recently came across your videos, love your family and your lifestyles. My dream is to have a vegetable gardens, have our own chickens and goats. I am impressed by your children; their contribution to the work in the farm and they seem so happy and willing to be part of the farm life. May the Lord bless you and your family and the works of your hands. Watching from Singapore. Shalom

    Oh wow you did get some! My comment was a little late 🤣 but I suggested you get some Dexter's because they take up less space and don't eat as much! They are great, we have three, hopefully some in calf, we don't have a bull in our small herd yet, but one day soon!!

    Did you guys grow up farming or did you start learning on your own as adults? I've always lived in the suburbs and gardened a little bit but want to live like this in the future...hard to find any guys in my area that have any handyman skills or want to live like this though lol

    • @randall-king

      Maybe hang around the hardware store or the farm supply store? Lol
      May the Lord bless you in finding what you’re looking for!

      Grew up with neighbors who farmed. Largely learned this on our own, the past few years. Definitely have received lots of good advice from friends and other people who have farmed their whole life. I wish at times I could just sit down with these older farmers and record all their stories. They have such wisdom of the land that's quickly being lost...

    How much money do you have tied into this project? Just wondering for personal and future knowledge :)

    • @TheSeasonalHomestead
      @TheSeasonalHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m actually not sure! We put it up over a few weeks with lots of trips to the local hardware store for supplies but we purchased things for other projects too. Because of that it would be hard to tally it all up accurately.

      This is our first foray into beef cattle. Prior to this we would always buy half a cow from a local friend. Super excited to do it all ourselves from start to finish!

      @@TheSeasonalHomestead Stumbled upon your account today - great fam and inspiring story. A more sustainable and ethical idea would be to not eat beef at all! Everything you need can come from plants! Ellen Fisher has a great channel about her family's farming that does not include eating meat.

  • @Merbella

    Do the kids get attached to the cows? How do you handle that when it's time for slaughter? I always imagined that would be hard for farm families. Also, do you hire someone to do that part?

    • @TheSeasonalHomestead
      @TheSeasonalHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kids know from day one that the intent is for food. For some reason, that makes it better to take in, and the kids are perfectly fine. It kind of also preserves the respect for the animal, knowing that it lived a good life, and even after death, continues to serve a purpose and provide for our family.
      We butcher our own chickens and turkeys, but take the larger animals(pigs and cows) to a butcher.

      @The Seasonal Homestead Thanks for the info. That makes a lot of sense. Very cool to be self sustainable in this way.
