The Best Buys in my state all offered to have a random selection of figures that may or may not contain the chase variants shipped to the store from out of state. No luck with Target either despite a handful of people saying they've found the whole wave at Targets in my city. At this point I just want a normal Captain Boomerang or Penguin but I can't find those either.
@@hawktalon7890 for some reason my Target only gets one case per store. A couple weeks later, they get one more case and that’s it. I go around 11 am and I usually see several people that are looking for the same figures. I’m not sure why there are so little available at my Target.
Chase variants should be done on a rare occasion. When they first started doing them, it wasn't so bad, and it was generally for characters in looks that weren't hardly desired. Now, almost every wave has a platinum edition.
Yes! I couldn’t agree more, shiz! I guess they’re trying to create artificial scarcity and add value to their product, but it makes more sense to me to make one variant now, then make the SAME OR MORE amount of a different variant later down the road! The platinum variants they make now, instead of only making 1/6 of the amount they make now, they can make 5/6 as many later and put them for sale. The scarcity is also getting frustrating. It’s like they course overcorrect from one extreme to the other.
I went to best buy the other day for an errand, and decided to check out the small toy section. And there they were, two penguin figures sitting together on the shelf. One was regular and the other platinum. No other figures from the wave, but these are the ones i wanted anyway. That's a great feeling when you find what you're looking for without even trying. Very cool penguin figures! But i agree they are overpriced at $30 with not much more than the regular $20 figures. Almost left them behind because of the price, but i couldn't. Glad to have them!
I kinda pity people who have to chase something down. Everyone has favourites that they would love to put on the shelf but definitely just wait Don't overpay and get taken for a ride. Easy to say of course. We've all been too eager to splash the cash 😂
@theotherguy21 Shiz didn't bring up the financial gain of giving more figures rather than making them scarce. McFarlane doesn't gain anything from the aftermarket. But yes, he brought up the chase. The chase most of us cant do nowadays.
They had both versions on the shelf at my local Best Buy, (along with reg. Starfire) I ordered one off their site the night before saw them in person and thankfully got the regular version after I picked up the platinum. Was weird because they were offering free shipping and it got here in under 2 days, like prime shipping. Both figures are dope, but I agree on the $30.....it's a regular figure in a bigger box. They could have included at least an open umbrella, the figure this is based on had one! Looks like the platinum version of Boomerang is going to be like the Steel figure, I've only really seen that version of both.
I personally do like Oswald Cobblepot as a character because he's not that crazy or chaotic like Joker and this Penguin figure looks really good but I like the very more classes comic one and Great review on this Penguin figure
Sucks he dosent have the cigarette holder. I feel the same way. The hunt for the figure was always fun but this really does take the cake. That and outrageous prices anymore.
Penguin is my favorite Batman villain. If I end getting the figure I wan´t the regular version. For Hawkman for instance I just like the character. I´ll be getting the figure. In this case I want the Platinum since it is the regular version. That being said, it is impossible to get. As it is, I´ll just go for the Zero Hour version.
I do enjoy the colors on this version of Penguin, but I can't even find the regular figures from this wave on websites near me let alone in stores... Couldn't preorder off the McFarlane website either as I didn't have the money when the preorders were open.
I preordered the whole wave from Gamestop and should have them by this weekend. Off the strength of this video and seeing people get the superpowers variant Penguin from Best Buy, I decided to take a chance and order one for pick up. When I got to the store, it was the standard version. 😒 Hopefully, the Penguin I ordered from Gamestop is the platinum variant, but I doubt it.
The Gamestop website never ships anything to my area. Just says "shipping unavailable" but then it ALSO says "in store pickup unavailable". So I just have to get lucky and randomly find it at a store.
Worker: Honey! Somebody just got a Penguin figure here at work. No I'm not kidding! Platinum edition! No way, not joking. I know right? If only we could find one. Let's hope and pray we do.
I agree wholeheartedly with you. The quest for figures I want in this line is not fun anymore. McFarlane is operating from an outdated business model, in my opinion
Btw the mold is a reuse of the penguin from that Arkham wave. Me personally it works some what. I’ve been slowly picking up dc multiverse here and there.
100% correct this garbage make no sense. Like you said do a repaint or a variant down the road instead of doing everyone dirty at the same time. Great review.

It really annoys me that the figure doesn’t match the character on the card. The gun’s wrong, the pants are wrong, the coat could be a deeper blue. What are you basing the figure on if not the card artwork.

Good luck! Just a heads up, the figures at my store weren't with the other action figures, they were on an end cap by the appliance section.
