राजेश खन्ना की शानदार कामयाबी का दौर 1969 में आई फिल्म 'आराधना' से शुरू हुआ, जो 1971 में फिल्म 'हाथी मेरे साथी' तक जारी रहा था. उनकी कामयाबी और जबर्दस्त फैन फॉलोइंग को देखते हुए बीबीसी ने साल 1974 में उन पर एक डॉक्यूमेंट्री 'बॉम्बे सुपरस्टार' बनाई थी. वो अपने जमाने में सबसे ज्यादा फीस लेने वाले सुपरस्टार थे. उनके घर के बाहर फिल्म मेकर्स की लाइन लगी रहती थी. उन्होंने करीब 20 वर्षों तक बॉलीवुड पर राज किया था. उनकी लोकप्रियता का दौर में कहा जाता था कि 'ऊपर आका और नीचे काका'. लोग प्यार से उनको 'काका' थे. लेकिन जीवन के उत्तरार्ध में राजेश खन्ना के सितारे गर्दिश में आ गए थे. हालात ये थे कि अंतिम समय में उनको एकांत में अपना जीवन जीना पड़ा था.
