    I have been an RN for a year now and quit my inpatient job after two weeks to work in a primary care office. I have been in the primary care setting for almost a year now. I am so happy that I listened to myself and my own happiness because I knew after I graduated from nursing school that I did not want to work inside the hospital. The pay is slightly less than inpatient, but I work four ten hour shifts and I am just so much happier in the outpatient setting! New nurses - you have so many options because nurses are needed everywhere right now.

    • @sabrinagoddess_
      @sabrinagoddess_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      do you know if you could work in a primary care setting part time? only for 2 days?

    • @haileym8073
      @haileym8073 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sabrinagoddess_ Honestly probably not. Usually primary care offices are full time at five days a week. Some offices do four 10s or three 12s. However I have heard of some nurses working PRN with primary care or specialty offices. I think it just depends on your area! :)

      It it’s so nice to read your comment. I am in nursing school now and I don’t believe that hospital is for me. I was wondering how much experience in impatient is necessary to apply for outpatient?

    • @haileym8073
      @haileym8073 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@alinenininha147 Honestly, no experience is absolutely necessary! You can apply to outpatient jobs with no bedside experience and they may proceed with interviewing you. Some job listings "require" experience, but I always advise to apply anyway because that's what happened with me. My current job required 6 mo experience, but I applied anyway. Generally speaking, if you are going to earn bedside experience, an average of 6 months is a good amount to have.

    Been a nurse 27 years! I always warn new nurses. Nothing wrong with bedside nursing, but it takes a toll on your body and life, and is more a job than a career. Shouldn't stay in bedside nursing your entire career IMO.

    you are not any LESS of a nurse by providing cares to people. You still do roles of a nurse and there are an insane amount of jobs you can do with a nursing degree! For those saying you should only work in a hospital are so closed minded and its not normal to feel yourself being miserable everyday and not doing the inner work. you are an inspiration! how amazing when you first started out your nursing journey, did you ever think you'd want to work in Dermatology and go back to school? Perhaps not, but you're soul searching and figuring it out. Its great to know what specialties you're not as passionate about verse what you are. Keep being you, and trust me the haters are watching your success. ;) You are wonderful!

    Include dialysis! It's super fast paced but you still do the three 12h shifts (no sundays, no xmas and no thanksgiving, but but you might work saturdays and other holidays if they fall on a non sunday day), lots of opportu6 for overtime, and the patients are super stable. You get a lot of central line experience, as well as assessment and patient education.

    Everyone has a plan to leave bedside. Especially in the Midwest. I get a little tired of talking about it at bedside. Although, I work 9 months a year (3 contracts/year) and have found a very good balance for myself. I'm weird because I actually really enjoy my Travel Nurse career at bedside. In Phoenix this winter and just signed a contract to have summer in Alaska. Although, this lifestyle isn't for everyone. Great video, thanks for sharing!

This video gave me hope that I'll one day find a specialty that I'm really passionate about. Thank you.

    I need some advice. I'm a new grad, and I started working on neuro medsurg unit (stroke, AMS, etc.) in November 2022. To make a long story short, I was full-time until February and now I'm PRN because I started my bridge program in January, and had to cut my hours majorly. I almost quit in January because I was initially denied part time and PRN, but was able to work things out with the director that started in January, who is amazing. I love my coworkers but the job has make me depressed, anxious beyond what I need right now, especially in school, unhappy, unpassionate, and just sad. I feel no joy unless its sometimes bits of my day, more so just high levels of stress all shift. I absolutely dread going to work and literally am anxious for a week before my shift. I only work 2 days a month though. I thought I would love it but I don't and I have tried to wait it out. All week I can't stop thinking about quitting but I don't know what to do because I still need to work PRN somewhere. I love nursing though. any advice???

    • @jodi-.-
      @jodi-.- ปีที่แล้ว

      Please quit! Find a new prn Job in another specialty that you think you could manage. I too worked in med surge and it was too much on my body and mental healthy. I quit it and literally was so happy on my last day walking out the doors😂 I too would get anxiety attacks before every shift… And that’s not normal! We shouldn’t be scared nor dread going to work. It should be something we don’t mind doing. So please quit! Do it for your own health cause it’s not worth staying

    • @katherinemskipper
      @katherinemskipper ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jodi-.- thanks for the advice! I work tmr and am dreading it... i will have 3 weeks off and will get to go see my family for two of those bc school is out for a couple weeks. i plan on talking to my parents and seeing what the next steps I need to take are and what conversations to have. i don't even know what other PRN jobs woudl be offered or available and just wondering if I need to just quit work until I graduate next April. i really appreciate the advice because i can't stop thinking about how much i am dreading going and I've been crying all day. i have much to consider and think about.

    Is it possible to start right off as a new grad in some of these specialties or would I NEED to get experience in a med surge or nursing home just because they take on new grads. I’m struggling with following the traditional route due to having a mom whos a cna and is pushing me to go a traditional route. I work as cna right now in a nursing home but in previous years got certified as a pct and phlebotomist. ButI like more hands on technical and want to switch jobs. On the other hand I know gaining experience as a cna is also important but I want to follow my own Route on pursuing a career as an OR nurse. I just feel like I’m wasting my potential.

      I disagree PACU,OR preop are still understaffed, underpaid and treated as replaceable staff by the large hospital corporations it’s definitely not different than inpatient bedside nursing still a very physically and mentally demanding job, and there are a lot of unsatisfied nurses. That’s why PACU has such a high turnover.
