      Not more than Lebron, KD, Curry, Giannis, Embiid, Doncic, Tatum or Booker. Iverson wouldn’t even be better than Kyrie or Ja, Kyrie handles, lay up package, midrange and 3pts are way better than Iverson, and Ja atheticism, handles and lay up package are better. Players todays are better, they took what Iverson, MJ, Magic, Bird, Kobe, T-Mac ect skills and moves, mastered them and added their own skills. You look at a guy like Embiid, the guy is 7ft+ 300pounds and shoot 50% from midrange, has Kobe footwork and Hakeem post moves and tween hezi pull up jumpshot like a guard, same for KD, you can’t tell me 5´10 Iverson would score more than them, and if he would, his efficiency would be horrible just like his career efficiency, the guy won a scoring title shooting under 40% lol.

      @Homer-OJ-Simpson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonnyarnett I posted a top level comment with some stats gathered by some individuals or websites looking at clutch play as defined as final 5 minutes of a game within 5 pts. One looked at all games (regular and playoffs) for select years and it's interesting to see how erratic the stats are year to year. Neither Lebron or Kobe seem to be near the top in most seasons but Carmelo Anthony popped up as near the top a few times which surprised me. another looked at playoff runs by Jordan 1990-1993 and 1995-1998 vs a playoff run of Kobe 2006-2009 and Lebron 2009-13 (minus 2011 because they were bias towards Lebron and 2011 was a bad playoff). Jordan 1990-1993 was way better than his 1995-1998 and yet 1995-1998 was way better than Lebron's and Kobes. Not sure how reliable the older data is but it comes from RealGM post Dipper 13 who seems popular in those circles for going back and manually counting stats before the nba kept those stats. Probably why he limits Jordan's stat comparisons to the playoffs so he doesn't have to look through 100 games a season.

      @schuylersavage276 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea but that might be a little
      Myopic. Think anoht how much home court can matter in the playoffs. Think about how much making the playoffs matters lol! I remember watching every wizards game during the wall and Beal run and there were tons of differences between their good and bad team seaons, but a huge reason why 2017 was so good was because wall and Beal consistently closed out games during the regular season, which allowed them home court in the playoffs; and they went 6-0 at home during those playoffs which is what allowed them to be within 1 game of the ECF. They went 1-6 in road games. So without those dozens of games clutch play from wall and Beal led to wins during the regular season; they don’t end up with home court in the playoffs( and they ended up as the 4 seed, so just a few less clutch winning plays during the regular season could have been the differnce between getting swept in the playoffs or making it to game 7 of the conference semis). I understand this is such a weird anecdote, who cares about the wizards? But I think it works.

    I didn't see nobody who won at least two of the award, which I don't know if it was because nobody was consistently clutch for two seasons or because you felt like you couldn't do that because people would say there was bias
    but honestly, I think I speak for not only myself but a lot of people when I say that Kobe Bryant was a really, really clutch player in moments where it was absolutely necessary to be clutch, so, maybe in the 2010's he could get another one, but he definitely deserved more accolades, and this one could really fit In his resume

    Reddit post that was referencing a post from RealGm post Dipper13 stated the following in comparing PLAYOFFS of Jordan's 1990-1992 to Kobe 2006-09 to Lebron's 2009-13 (though for SOME reason they say 2011 playoffs where Leberon played bad aren't included). Clutch time is defined as "4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points"
    Per 36 minutes stats in clutch time:
    Jordan 55.3pts 62.5%fg 4.0stl 0.73blk 7.3reb 3.6ast 2.6 t/o 40%3pt 82.8%ft
    Kobe: 35.7pts 45.2%fg 1.1stl 0blk 4.5reb 3.9ast 1.4 t/o 26.7%3pt 85.4%
    Lebron: 34.7pts 46.2%fg 1.6stl 0.83blk 10.1reb 5.9ast 4.5 t/o 44.8%3pt 77.6%ft
    As a reference, Jordan's stats are for a total of 24 games that had clutch time in the playoffs over 3 playoffs 1990-1992 for a total of 99 minutes. Without Lebron's 2011 dismal post season included, it looks like Kobe and Lebron are close and both way behind Jordan.
    Original stats were Per 48 minutes stats in clutch time. here there are:
    Jordan: 73.7pts 62.5%fg 40%3pt 82.8%ft 5.3stl 0.97blk 9.7reb 4.8ast 3.4 t/o
    Kobe: 47.6pts 45.2% 26.7%3pt 85.4% 1.5stl 0blk 6reb 5.2ast 1.9 t/o
    Lebron: 46.2pts 44.8%3pt 77.6%ft 2.1stl 1.1lblk 13.5reb 7.8ast 6.0 t/o
    And they also measured old man Jordan's clutch in 1995-1998, his short season comback year and the 3 championship years. Here there are per 36 minutes:
    Jordan: 45.8pts 52% fg 2.9stl 1.1blk 5.9reb 3.6 ast 2.5 t/o 25% 3pt 83%ft
    This was 97 games with 408 minutes in clutch playoff time for Jordan. His last 3.5yrs were still considerably better than Kobe and Lebron. Though it would be nice to compare to all of Kobe's and all of Lebron's career.

    So I was able to find some clutch stats. According to 82games website, they tracked "game winning shots" from 2003-2009. They defined it as 24s or less and tie to down 2. Lebron was 34% 17-50 with 6 ast and 4 turnover. Vince was 16-51 31.4% 3 ast 4 turnover. Ray Allen 15-39 38.5% 1 ast 2 t/o. *CARMELO was 13-27 48.1% * 1ast 4 t/o. Iverson was 13-33 39.4% 1 ast 2 t/o. League avg was 29.8%. KOBE was 14-56 for 25% 1 ast 5 t/o.
    So with 30% being the average fg%, Lebron was above average 34%, Carmelo was super clutch at 48%, Ray Allen and Tim Duncan and Iverson were very clutch around 39%, Dirk and Vince Carter and Gilbert Arenas were around average 28-32%, and Kobe was well below average at 25%!!! Nobody shot worse than Kobe among the top 30 raned by shots made (so no one who took 7 or more shot below 25%).
    But 82 games also looked at "4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points" for 2 seasons in 2008 and 2011. In 2008, Kobe was tops in pts per 48 minutes in 'clutch time' with 56.7pts per 48 and shot 45% but Lebron was 55.9pts and shot 55.6%. Carmelo was 54.4% and shot 56.5%. In 2011, Kyrie Irving was tops with 53.5pts per 48 and shot 54%. Lebron was way off with 40.4pts and 45%fg% and Kobe was 39.1pts and 36% so even worse.than Lebron who didn't have a good clutch year. Other notables...Carmelo again 2nd in pts with 46.1pts and shot 45.6%. Durant was off with 45.pts but 37%. Paul Pierce 38.3pts with a hot 51%.

    • @Homer-OJ-Simpson
      @Homer-OJ-Simpson ปีที่แล้ว

      82 games also did the 'clutch stats' for final 5 minutes and OT for last year, 2021-22 season. Here are the top scorers than some other notable players:
      1 DeRozan 44.9pts per 36min and shot 54.5% Great clutch year.
      2 Morant 40.3pts 42%
      3 Embid 39.5pts 47%
      4 Young 37.7pts 40%
      5 Jokic 37.7 50%
      6 Booker 35.6pts 57%
      7 Durant 35.2pts 42%
      11 Luka 31.5pts 48%
      14 Giannis 30.8pts 51%
      17 Curry 28.6pts 36%
      19 Kyrie Irving 27.6pts 35.5%
      22 Lebron James 26.6pts 38.5%
      Surprising how low on both pts and fg% that Curry, Kyrie and Lebron played last year. I looked at Curry, Kyrie and Lebron for 2020-21 season and here they are:
      3 Curry 42.1pts 43%
      12 Irving 34.9pts 48%
      17 James 33.5pts 46%
      For 2019-2020
      Curry didn't play any clutch minutes or didn't qualify (he only played 5 games)
      5 Irving 38.8pts 35%
      41 Lebron 23.9pts 35%
      My takeaway is that Lebron hasn't been clutch the past few years and was above average clutch before the lakers. Kyrie has great clutch years followed by a drop.

    Clutch is difficult to assess because so many people have different definitions of clutch. Some count buzzer beaters, some last 2 mins, others last 5 mins etc. Personally, I prefer the last 5 mins (of the fourth quarter, then adding the mins in OT if the game goes to OT) because it offers more context to a players impact in the most crucial moment of the game. Averaging the most points in the 4th quarter is useless when in the last 5 mins, a player starts choking, missing free throws and all that. The clutch player is always the one that makes the points that changes the tide of the game in the last few minutes of the game.
    More importantly, it shouldn't matter if a team is slightly down or slightly ahead to determine "clutch". Protecting a slim lead is just as important as tying or taking the lead. And this is where I find the stats of "the player who had the most shots to tie or take the lead in the last minute of the game" misleading. What about the player who made the crucial baskets to prevent the other team from tying or taking the lead? Case in point, Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Shaq fouls out, the Pacers have a chance to take the lead and tie the series. But Kobe made crucial baske after crucial basket to keep the Lakers ahead. That's one of the most clutch performances in Finals history. But because the Lakers were ahead for the most part, it somehow doesn't count because people only look at the person who ties the game or takes the lead. And that's a huge limitation when looking at what analysts consider as clutch stats.

I'd say in my lifetime, there were 3 players that appeared to be the most clutch -- Bird, Jordan and Kobe. Jordan is easily tops, with Bird 2nd and Kobe 3rd. One notable player that was very clutch for his actually talent was Reggie Miller. Stat wise, he was probably around 10th best player in the league during his peak but he was often only behind Jordan in terms of clutch.
    Lebron went from mix clutch through age 27 (one season he might be very clutch but next season he might average and even tank in a playoff series) or so to one the biggest consistent clutch player in the league when he 30-34 with Cleveland the second time around.

      Kyrie's shot was the most clutch moment because without Kyrie's shot, that block wouldve been 'just an incredible block on an important moment' in a loss. The fact that Kyrie hit that shot and they won makes the block iconic.
      Kawhi's shot vs the 76'ers was actually the most clutch moment, because it was the first game 7 game winner in NBA history, showing how unlikely it is to hit such a shot with all that pressure. However, it wasnt in the finals, so I'd put Kyrie's ahead.
      Lebrons block IMO is third. Kawhi's 3 with a block on Harden on the next possession 4th.
      As for 'most clutch performance in the 4th' as for the last 5 mins of a game, I don't know which was the clutchest.

Still a great clutch play on defense which these metrics miss but I think it's maybe 3rd behind what Lonny Breaux said...Kyrie's shot earlier and Kawhi's amazing shot against the 76ers. Maybe even 4th behind Ray Allen's miracle 3pt shot against the Spurs but that was more a sequence of events.
