I think this is about the character, the integrity of the early Muslims unlike us, who set an example to a previous hater of Islam and made him a true lover of Islam and our Prophet (SWS). This is about the character of Thumamah (RA) who saw the light of Islam after observing the Prophet (SWS) and his companions (RA). Islam gives power to the followers, not the other way around.
