  • This is how I cut a whole bunch of the same or similar shapes. I'm starting work on a 7' tall Madrona tree for one section of this commission, so I'm starting with a lot of leaves in slightly varied shades of green glass. I made a shape to trace over and over, I use dry-erase marker, and I make the cuts assembly-line style so that I can get a lot done in a shorter time.
Note: my cartoon (the template) is a sketch and does not have the leaves drawn out. I'll place them as I go, then work around them to fill in the background. I do not like having my pattern done to precision. I prefer to make creative decisions as I go, allowing each piece to inform the next. But cutting a lot of one shape is a huge time-saver.

What tool did you use to pull the pieces apart?

Running pliers. I think I have one more set in my shop.
