      What worse than Alabama players being called selfish by their coach is that the University of Michigan is caught in the worst cheating scandal in the history of college football and no one. Not Joel nor espn nor any person that really mattered stepped up to ever call them out for their transgressions. They are simply just called a great dedicated group of honorable teammates. Gimme a break. It’s not just football. Our entire society is a lawless mess.

    "Talented teams win. Devoted teams win Championships and devotion and talent are two very different things." OMG, that statement sums up what it takes to be a champion in such a concise manner, it's nearly unbelievable. Well done, Mr. Klatt. Well done.

      *Yup......God help us if this generation gets called up to fight WWIII.* Saban's sick of the bullsh!t. The problem here is that Joel Klatt thinks NIL is OK, as long as there's a contract to hand to the perpetually, entitled punks who are demanding to get wealthy playing with a ball on Saturday's, because a free education isn't enough. So, Klatt isn't even remotely addressing the real problem here which as far as Saban's comments go, are just as glaring. *Contract or not, it is **-virtually-** LITERALLY impossible to get "devotion" with that level of entitlement.*

    • @richardellis8076
      @richardellis8076 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Assuming they weren't devoted. Saban didn't say they came up to him and talked about money or transferring before the loss. They allegedly did that after the game was over, when they should have. They have agency, power and choice now. The same thing Saban had all those decades when he could demand a higher salary or do what he did, change schools.
      Saban is frustrated that now coaches like him have lost a lot of the leverage that they used for decades to control these players in order to make, what nine figures for himself? While some of those great players he recruited agonized on the bench or got injured and let go, with nothing to show for it, but they were "loyal" and "devoted."

    I live in Alabama and the sentiment surrounding the Michigan game was dominance. The tide and its fans just knew they were gonna destroy Big Blue and yet the moment the game kicked off you could feel that it was going to be a real challenge. A challenge that they may not have expected and as the game went on you could see frustration on one side and momentum and belief on the other. 9 out of 10 games the tide played they beat there opponents before they ever stepped off the bus. Mentally the opponent never really believed in each other enough to win for 4 quarters and that gave them just enough to have that edge in close games but Michigan refused to give in and that’s what it takes to beat them consistently because they are so superior athletically. Great stuff and fascinating

The bigger schools didn’t want this because it’s starting to lead to the schools paying the players. Which the schools don’t want to, if someone can transfer to another school. If you don’t like the way this is headed. You should be against NIL. The bigger schools are trying to find a way on keeping up with the money. NIL is a huge deal, as is the transfer portal. It's the combination that lets teams poach players. With NIL specifically, the biggest problem is that it's not really NIL but rather pay for play with the exception of legitimate deals (for example, Livvy Dunne makes most of her money as a social media influencer). NIL will need to be regulated at some point by the federal government, but it may take a while before that happens. It's the Wild West for now.

    • @jackbrenan6744

      @@edwardmartinez6401 NIL would be fine without scholarships. players should have to choose between the two. no transfers until after your 2nd year. all scholarship players have guarantee to remain on scholarship unless they break rules (ie new coach cant come in and cut the whole team)
      ultimately the problem is NIL has become an organized part of recruitment, but there shouldnt be any linkage between them. its the cart leading the horse. NIL was envisioned as being for guys like manziel and reggie bush who became national celebrities after performing on the field. its not meant to substitute for a professional football free agency - go to the NFL if you want that.

    Spot on!! The worst thing ever was starting the “pay-for-play”. It was obvious as the season progressed - no honorable players - it was “all-about-me” mindsets. Insane and now football has changed forever. When Paul Bryant was coaching … seeing the hugely muscled football plays in suit and ties, come onto the field, all together doing “the walk” around the field, returning to locker room to get their gear on to play ball. That was intimidation and powerful as one team! That always made me so proud watching these boys do this. Unselfish and honorable. We will never

With Covid giving the kids extra years to play allowing most of the team to be 5th and 6th years it’s quite impressive the Michigan was able to hold on to them for so long and imo the reason they win the natty this year. I see a lot of people calling out OSU but a good chunk of them are staying an extra year that could have been 1st or 2nd round picks. As long as these rivalries exist I think CFB will be fine. Michigan had a QB you could trust much more so than Alabama - I point to that as a primary reason if any of why Michigan beat Alabama. With that said, I'm all for players getting some $ but there needs to be some reasonable guardrails to NIL/transfer. No 'industry' in the world can effectively completely self regulate. I think one of the reasons why Saban may have lost influence on his locker room is that he comes across as not very personal. I'm sure there must be players who do feel like he's personally invested in them, but that's definitely not the image portayed to the outside and it's not Alabama's brand either. Their brand is more like "this is basically the NFL minor leagues". Nobody mentions that "love of the game" in regards to Alabama. They talk about having the best talent, the most money and the hardest training. Those are great traits but what are they lacking? Family. The one group that most people are willing to sacrifice or put their own desires aside for is "family". Some teams are known for being a "family" , or even a "brotherhood". But I've never heard anyone say that Bama is like that.

The Michigan players ALL bought into TEAM culture. We know this is true with ONE player (Sabb) of significance leaving Michigan during this last transfer period. If you recruit players motivated by the most money what did Saban think would happen? Michigan knows they have to balance paying for the best talent while recruiting players that have other interests outside of money. At the college level teams have to recruit for other reasons outside of money. This is not the NFL. It's too early to pay for the "best" talent. How would you define the "best" with an 17-18 year old kid? Physical ability? Well even this can't happen because these KIDS are still growing.

    Jeff, I don’t disagree with your comment but NIL becoming legal and the Transfer Portal caused Saban to lose leverage and control. Before the transfer portal Saban could impose his will and a player would lose a year of eligibility by transferring. All that changed Saban’s control. It gave the players leverage they didn’t previously have.

    Joel, the only reason the Michigan Alabama game was as close as it was is cause Michigan was trying to beat themselves two years in a row. They were making stupid mistakes they hadn't made all year then they decided to start making them in the semi finals for the second year in a row. Michigan should have won that Alabama game by 21. BTW, Michigan has 18 guys at the combine, which is a record. I don't think the talent gap is as wide as you make it sound.
