A citadel that became a prison!
In this video, in the continuation of our trip to Shiraz, we went to the historical Karimkhan Zand citadel and I walked in this government citadel, which was later turned into a prison during the Pahlavi period, and filmed different parts of it to show you. Karim Khan Citadel is located in the center of Shiraz. This citadel was built during the reign of Zandiye dynasty and after Karimkhan Zand chose Shiraz as his capital and this place as his place of life, it became known as Karimkhani Citadel. During the reign of the Qajar dynasty, the citadel was used as the residence of Persian princes, and from 1310, it was used as a municipal prison.
The citadel was built between 1766 and 1767, and Karimkhan employed the best architects of his time to build it. He also procured the best materials from inside and outside the country and finished the construction of the building quickly. This building was used as the seat of government in the Zandiyeh period and as the residence of local governors in the Qajar period.
