22:27 on this note, Ikuhara loves the concept of cycle and repetition, as we also see in Revolutionary Girl Utena: its name literally contains the word “Revolution”. We also see repeated scenes over and over again e.g. the spiral staircase before the duels, the borders with the spinning roses when an important character is introduced, how Utena and Anthy spin around in the opening theme, etc.
Can’t think of a show more deserving of an iceberg than this one. Even Revolutionary Girl Utena was more restrained with its use of symbolism and metaphor.
I’m pretty sure the pictures of the girls weren’t from Kanba, but were just from the penguin. We often see the penguins mimicking their humans’ habits - Himari’s knits, Shoma’s cleans, and Kanba’s reads dirty magazines. We also see this penguin sorting NSFW trading cards (idek) in episode 18, so I really don’t think those belonged to Kanba. They aren’t meant to be a literal, physical object connected to him. The penguin is just being lewd.
Let me ask something. "let´s share the fruit of fate" is a spell and it was used by momoka, ringo, kanba and shoma. Kanba and Shoma used the spell unconsciously to share their penguindrum, changing fate and saving/choosing other people to live. so why didn't they burnt too? Did momoka really changed fate or did she just shared her penguindrum with other people such as the rabbit, yuri and tabuki?
Yeah I thought of that too. I just finished the series today, so I'm really confused. I think it's because "let's share the fruit of fate" really represents sacrifice as in exchange to change someone's fate(?) So when saving a life, you lose yours through combusting into flames. That's why when momoka changed yuri's fate, she didn't die from combustion but only injured her limbs (which she exchanged from yuri). So when kanba and shouma said "let's share the fruit of fate" they put it there kind've sorta symbolically in sharing punishment. Kanba changed Shouma's fate (that is starving to death) by giving him half of his apple, but by doing this, he loses half of his apple. The only thing I'm confused of is why did Kanba turn to glass. Didn't Shouma already sacrificed himself for himari? And why glass?? I also didn't understand the black bear and white bear symbolism. Maybe that's just to sell for products. If you can answer any of these then thank you. Share me your fruit of fate by being confused with me.
@@derekderek7033 hehe, loved your comment! Kanba shared his PD with Shouma inside the boxes 1/2 for each of the PD Shouma shared his PD with Himari at the Child Broiler 1/4 of the PD for each Kanba gives half of his half to himari at episode one 1/4 for kanba, 1/2 for himari Himari gives back her half to shouma (when she returns the scarf to shouma) and to kanba (at the aquarium when she prays to god) Shouma gives back his PD to Kanba at the last episode, so Kanba has the whole PD again and gives it entirely to himari so she can live without punishment. He sacrifices himself for her, but since he became another kiga group member, he turned into glass just like those forgettable children at the child broiler, since he lose his will and individuality. Ringo used the spell to save everyone on the train as well and take the punishment, she was supposed to burn for saving all those lives, but shouma takes the sacrifice from her and burns instead. (this is a reference of the scorpion fire in galactical railroad - which is mentioned on the first and last episode). The black bears are bombs by the kiga group and after the change of fate, the bears become white and harmless. The PD is a reward for those who choose to die for love, so kanba and shouma reborn as children. Kanba received an apple inside the box because he remembered whom he loved and whom he wanted to save. I hope it helps, sorry if it´s too confusing, feel free to ask more.
@@derekderek7033 In addition to the black bear being a stand in for the sarin gas as well as the "bad destiny" end, with the white bear being the "changed destiny" , they're also reference to Neon Genesis Evangelion. This is referenced in Hideaki Anno's interview in "アニメクリエイター・インタビューズ この人に話を聞きたい2001-2002" . "Anno: Everyone understands that anime is fiction, but it's precisely because its a fiction you have a pure feeling, you fall for the character to an even greater extent. You assume that an anime character will not betray you. Iku-chan [Kunihiko Ikuhara] said [to me], "In the last episode, please have Rei Ayanami get married and become pregnant. Just please betray the Ayanami fans. The Rei Ayanami they are thinking of is not real. The real Rei Ayanami gets married, and her belly...[swells in pregnancy]". The colour scheme of the white bear actually shares the same with Rei Ayanami's plugsuit. In the 'Survival Strategy' sequence we can actually see the bear swell up and 'give birth' in a way to a transformed Himari as the Princess of the Crystal.
Thanks guys, now i understand. If kanba sacrifiices /share the fruit of fate/share the fate to saves and breaks the curse for himari i think he does the same thing for mario, mario looks healthy at the ending then it means he does saves people who has the penguin hat thing(cursed). And shouma sacrificed or share the fate to save the train's passenger and ringo. Correct me if wrong.
I've recently discovered a whole 'nother layer to the iceberg related to «transparent existence»/«Invisible Storm». Look up «Kobe school killer» and «Shinji Miyadai»…
The fact that an underground gem like Penguindrum has its own iceberg video makes me irrationally happy
