TH-cam is aware when a video is playing and muted btw, so having them play in the background doesn't have the benefit you'd expect, instead you want to mute the actual browser tab instead of mute the video
Your video hit my recommended today. I've never seen your channel before, so I hope this momentum keeps up! I'll make sure to check out some other videos. I don't play guitar, but I am a total refurbish and instrument nerd. I'm a classical/concert musician.
Thank you so much🤘🏼 and cool that you're willing to help out, it's awesome to hear that this reached you. I've got a fair few refurb/restoration videos on channel, so maybe there is something that might interest you as well!
You are the 3rd channel that randomly appeared in my feed related to growth and not reaching people, would be nice if I got this recommendation months ago
Yeah, it sucks that this is starting to become a real problem amongst creators now. I hate making a video like this, but I want to reach people otherwise it's just "throwing videos into the void"
Just found you yesterday man. Keep on with your great work. I just did a great fret work on my first ever strat with the help of a six year old video of yours. So at least to me it was recommended. I have a feeling, that it's going back up. Best wishes to you!
Thank you for your videos specially about finishing with Maston rattle cans and inlays. I hope you can still find new interesting things to get excited and filmed. A recessed drop top? Maybe copper side/inlay markers? A 7 string with two high e-strings? I think there is a lot content to be explored and made.
Thank you for watching the content! And you are right, there is tons of stuff to be explored and made. I just need to find what is appropriate for what I do/what I have resources for
Yep - I was not having you show up in my feeds for a long time - even had to check the bell was there. I'll try and have a window of your playlists up and running alongside the one I have for Glenn.
@@IPGuitars I got you fam. Easy enough to have a playlist of videos on monitor 2 as I work. Besides - it's fun revisiting some of the more questionable haircuts and facial hair you've had over the years. 🤣
This is the first video im seeing from you so i have no clue who you are. However i will play through all the playlists you have to hopefully have some kind of an impact. Hope it helps, best of luck in your future endeavours.
Man, that's so rough to hear, and I'm sorry!!! I know I've got notifications on, and don't miss any of your new videos. I will keep going back and watch your historical videos, re-engage with them, and get those playlists going. I love your content, especially the handmade builds and refinishing at home tricks, so I'd be sad to see you disappear from here. Let's see what we can do for ya!!! 🍻
Thank you so much, really do appreciate your support! Honestly this made me smile and is why I do what I do. That being said, if there is something that actually does interest you that you'd want to see more of lemme know! That's great info to have to be able to make videos you and others want to watch👍🏼
@IPGuitars It may or may not be the direction you want the channel to go, but I've seen a LOT of channels growing from doing refinishing or upgrading of guitars, guitar painting videos, repairs and things that the DIYer can do without job-specific tools, and scratch builds. That is just my $0.00012 worth of an opinion, but it might help.
@bigkahuna100 and it is a topic that has kept the channel even somewhat afloat during the last few years😅 I do have a very special video on that topic coming up, once I get to that point with an ongoing project
Dude I would've given up so much earlier than this, since you've had a channel in 12 years and it didn't pick up. You're extremely driven. Don't lose that please. Channel it to something else maybe?
Definitely the case. The amount of content uploaded every minute is insane. And doesn't help that I purposefully don't follow trends or go against what the algorithm would like for me to do. But also, after a break, it hasn't been the same. Amount content made on YT has relatively stayed about the same, but the luck element has gotten harder to achieve
Hey mate, read all your comments now. Thanks for your replies. I always believe in a last few pushes. And maybe you've already done all the necessary things, looks like it. You have the drive and the consistency and the work necessary to keep a TH-cam niche channel going for so long. And you are going to do the few last pushes I believe. If you fail, maybe like some other comment said, it's ok to give up sometimes, ı dunno. But maybe you can transform this channel into something else, going from woodworking or DIY or something. I understand that 12 years of dedication into a channel might be hard to let go, but I'm sure you'll know when, and how when the time comes. Don't let this shit get you down. Maybe switch content completely into something very different. Or just leave it be, and let it go and focus on something else. Must've become a habit by now. I wish you nothing but the best mate.
Thank you so much for all the discussion and support. Time will tell what comes of all this. Changes have to happen, that is for sure, but to what end, we will see.
For whatever it's worth... Seems like you want to put quality stuff out there that you like to do, while the most popular stuff to push the algorithm is garbage based on whatever is the new trendy thing to feed the mindless drones. Maybe just focus on whatever it is that genuinely makes you happy and let the chips fall where they may... Find peace in the surrendering. God bless, my friend.
You kinda hit the nail on its head with this. I have very little desire to go along with what everyone else is doing, but changes need to be made as well. I think I have a fairly solid plan going into 2025. Remains to be seen what will happen
I've seen a 13 years old channel very similar to yours called Bernth. he's having 10x views per video approximately. What's he doing to achieve this? A little bit like what we discussed jokingly earlier, but it's not a joke. Remember I wrote if you suddenly started to break guitars etc. this guy literally drilled holes in a guitar and claimed it sounded amazing. An idea to surge curiosity and interest and it's not so bad either without being stupid or obnoxious. Like imagine you did something like this. Something inspired by this. Such as a cloth covered guitar or a guitar sunken into caramel or some materials that effect the sound. Like hacks but not necessary just for the fun of it, interesting, can easily try it at home hacks for modifying the acoustics and sounds of guitars. Maybe things such as "I just poured concrete into my guitar and it sounds insane" 😂😂 shit like that. A guitar made out of chocolate, or plastic or all recycled materials, or just paper and carton, or smaller guitars, tiny ones, or giant guitars, like 6 feet ones, or Bamboo instead of wood, trying new materials that nobody ever tried building a guitar out of... Going experimental while still giving out real tips and tricks at building a guitar. I know these aren't like eureka moments but they're worth trying. Cheers.
Yeah I know Bernth, been following his career on/off since the early days and it's cool to see how far he has come. He is also an incredible guitarist and is doing "all the right things". The most popular video I have is in this vein: the 100% Pine Guitar that I built in 2019. That was a gimmick build of "this shouldn't work" and is the sort of thing I should do more of. If I come up with a similar "crazy" idea, I'll of course make a video of it. But I need to first work on the showcase guitars for next year. There's the rub: wanting to be taken seriously as a builder vs. being a "TH-camr". Thing is that nowadays you need one to gain the audience in order to show off your skills and therefore gain some form of credibility😅 if that makes sense. Another example is Crimson, my old workplace, the channel and brand gained an immense following because Ben did crazy experimental stuff. It's kinda what my early videos were all about, just in not great quality and I've had to make a lot of them private a good few years back now. I just need inspiration to strike or an idea to go off on to create something... weird😂
Maybe try building meme guitars for big guitar channels, try collaboration with, ı dunno, the bass guy, or leo, build and send them guitars, might be costly but might work. Get in touch with bigger guitar channels, try being featured and get them linking your channel. People need reasons to come visit. Give them reasons, like promotions, custom build offers, there are many things to try before you go down if this is the line. You have nothing to lose at this point so push things like you've never done before. Do the opposite of what you'd normally do. 😂 Sorry if I'm blabbering, just heart felt your frustration deeply.
You're not blabbering 😁 I enjoy the "sparring". Now I did do a fair few collaborations and spent a lot out of my own pocket to do those "let's see if it'll go viral" builds, which is a big part of the original concept of the channel I wanna say 2013-2015. Some of those caught on, but the craftmanship and videos were... really not great😅 gotta start somewhere though. Then came the two guitars for a production company, Rooster Teeth. Made one for one of their animation departments and that never really got shown anywhere to anyone, and one for their gaming department Achievement Hunter and that guitar was featured in sooooo many videos, those two garnered a lot of attention too. There was the guitar that I made for Matt Heafy (Trivium), but that demo video never came out on TH-cam and the stream VOD was deleted in a short while (dunno why). The collaborations with Cyan Kicks/Sunrise Avenue brought forth a lot of new peeps finding the channel, but with it being one-sided promotion on TH-cam (bigger attention on Instagram). A good few charity guitars that garnered no attention. And then of course the somewhat "scandal" (people suck sometimes) of one project, which hit me hard personally and showed my viewership crash in my home country. Since then I've recovered this year from that. And while I have ideas for all kinds of promotional stuff for the audience, I haven't been able to finance any of them, so they've been pretty dead from the start. Maybe if I manage to sell a couple of guitars soon enough :) And now I'm looking forward to collabs with a few brands/companies in 2025, which look promising. The ongoings builds are specifically also planned to help approach future marketing options and promotional ventures.
Oh and there was the GGBO22 that I entered which was great and fun, but ultimately caused a near burnout😅 but that worked pretty well to bring people to the channel too
@IPGuitars one of my favourite metal bands lost society's TH-cam channel has a mere 30k subs. Maybe aggressively pursue 10k for now. Do some sponsorship on social media, spread some cash to advertising on Instagram, x, and etc. Whatever. Take care 🤘
The Trivium was a shame that it kinda fell flat, HOWEVER it was a personal victory in so many ways that I don't mind it. Funny you mention Lost Society, I need to have a little chat with Sammy ;) When it comes to throwing money at Meta advertising, I used to do that before some regulation changes and how paid advertising works on their platform (read: without enough money it can = money I don't have)
The issue is that the Search function doesn't work as it used to either. Trying to search for specific videos will only get you a few similar videos in until it turns into recommendations. Tested this a while back with even searching word-for-word with the title of a video and didn't even get that video in the results🤷🏼♂️
Another thing, it's a stupid internet time. I mean I think this channel would pick up so fast if you suddenly started breaking guitars in weird places in public or some shit like that.
@IPGuitars sometimes we have to do shit to continue doing what we like. Im not saying do stupid shit but maybe consider trends and likes and needs of content consumers a little bit more and try adapting a more of a viewer pleaser stand. Don't know, just thinking loudly.
Once again a very good point, and of course I will attempt to jump out of my comfort zone into trending things as I have done a fair few times in the past, but now I try to find a way of doing so while staying true to myself. I've been there with the whole "TH-camr-persona" as well, but after a while my heart just wasn't in it and that does affect people watching. I'd rather find the compromise (and a new strategy, which yes, is in the works) while being... well, me and showing my work the way I do it :)
Pity subs aren't going to change things in the long run unfortunately. İt's obvious this channel can't pick up anymore. Why does it need to survive? Make a new one? Make guitar lessons or something? Try new stuff.
I don't know. I guess the reason I want it to survive is because it is literally where all of this started for me. Thanks to this TH-cam channel I managed to start a business and grow. It is the place with hundreds of videos that some still find useful. I want to be able to offer what I do to people trying to build on their own or look for specific solutions to problems. I had another IP channel back in 2015-2017 for gaming, I have a personal channel, my band's channel, old non-active ones. IP is the only one that has survived until now, and only because I took a break for the sake of my own health. Hardly seems fair for it to die because of it. I know it was just an example, but I gotta say guitar lessons ain't the way😂 I don't know how to play Tl:dr, I don't want to be a "TH-camr" as much as I want an extension to the IP Guitars business
Absolutely on the table right right. There's a collaboration in the works currently and a few other I am trying to get going too🤞🏼 unfortunately I also did one podcast with another creator, it reached almost nobody and ultimately that didn't matter because I was asked to take it down anyway😅
I'm sorry to hear that brother and I can totally understand. You did far better than I in growing your channel and I've been very proud.🥲 A true shame when the algorithm just tosses you aside like that Andy and Woody meme. "I don't wanna play with you anymore."😂 It's why I choose to just keep the channel as a hobby, but I've been pretty shitty at that too lately, but that's a me thing. 😄 Anyway, you gave me an idea and I think I could put that playlist on loop on my other PC.🤔 I wish you all the best and I hope things can pick up and you can keep going, but ain't no shame in giving yourself some rest, especially if your heart's not in it. Take care man!❤ We'll have to hangout soon. 😊
Thanks so much my dude 👊🏼 the meme is definitely appropriate 😂 butyeah, sucks ass to say the least. TH-cam really does like to punish creators for taking a little bit of time to rest. The really annoying part is that half of last year and a lot of stuff this year is full of videos I am personally super proud of, but gained like 40 views in the first day😅😅 I tried different formats (old and new and newer), but nah... They really didn't wanna play with me no mo' Aaaaanywho, love ya man, been a bit too long since last hangs yet again. Let's fix that💪🏼❤️
TH-cam is aware when a video is playing and muted btw, so having them play in the background doesn't have the benefit you'd expect, instead you want to mute the actual browser tab instead of mute the video
